Despite the ads being as annoying as advertisements can possibly be, Evony is a pretty decent, online, turn-based strategy game that can consume a large amount of free time or a small amount depending on how much you like micro-managing.
There is no porno/boobs in the actual game, mind you. Only in those annoying adverts!
Because it would work in Korea. It would work excellently and nobody would play it (they already have PC Bangs and the like).
For Korean broadband standards, this isn't revolutionary.
They should be testing it on the lowest common denominator first. I doubt this system is going to work in the US, Canada or most Western countries. There simply isn't enough bandwidth for it yet (or most people are going to play with such a low resolution that its not even worth it).
First, we'd have to begin to get rid of the lecture method with all it's crotchety old proponents who over-emphasize the main learning stream while under-emphasizing the alternatives.
Then we'd have to rebuild education metholodogy to suit the 21st century. I'd say we're a few generations behind.
In University, I remember having professors who pleaded with us to buy the newest edition of the textbook, which was only available on campus in the bookstore.
I've compared editions quite a number of time. Occasionally the differences are stark enough to warrant the purchase of a new edition, sometimes a few changes are tagged on just to churn a profit. The most memorable of this was a textbook for my logic course, where the edition cost more than $50 more than the previous edition (already $150) and had nothing other than two new chapters, which were horrible. Our professor for that course made a powerpoint for fun just to explain how badly the chapters "sucked."
Then there are the professors you can be sure get some kind of commission from the publisher for forcing their students into buying the newest editions, knowing they were garbage.
Anyway, veering into off-topic land now so I'll stop. I hope this rental system really works out and does provide new editions. I spent near $10000 on textbooks in my four years and half of it was totally unnecessary.
There are tons of exciting things you can do that don't involve dedicating your life to satisfying the desires of pre-pubescent boys.
Most gamers are not pre-pubescent boys. If I was a game developer, I'd help make games that I'd like to play and I'd find a place in the industry that let me do this.
Yes. I'm in South Korea too and it's something I see every day, in nearly every taxi I get in. Its extremely common to see someone tune the GPS screen into digital television stations while driving. The law has little affect on it.
It makes sense after you see a horrible accident on the high way, look into one of the vehicles in the collision and see their LCD screen displaying The Cooking Channel or something.
The technicians where I work disallow everyone to use anything other than IE6,7 and 8 on their work PCs. I had FireFox for awhile and they said it was inadvisable to use as it was "full of spyware / malware." There are a bunch of pre-approved applications we're allowed to use and the staff are very inflexible about it.
I don't have a problem with Left 4 Dead 2, but the one problem I did have with the original L4D is that there simply wasn't enough maps. You were running through the same sets over and over and over and over again.
It won't even make it to China. They're going to drop it in the ocean a few miles off the coast and say they took it to China.
Maybe they'll make a new island and turn it into a Disneyland to draw attention away from the obvious.

...and their free games kinda suck. They're either WoW clones or CS clones. I wouldn't pay for them anyway.
I was IncognitoHFX on Dave's. I am banned for the rest of my life for god knows what.

You're on Dave's, right? Small world. (I also agree with what you said)
This just in... the story contained in a novel is more important it's choice of font.
Touch-typing is a drop in the bucket.

This blows!
Instructions? You know, there is this little thing called Google...

Damnit! Someone beat me to it.
*Note to self, look before post*
I, for one, welcome our new insect Overlords!

Screw 'normies'. Find other nerds with common interests.
Why is everyone surprised?
We went from playing games on 25" LCD flat panels, down to playing inferior games on touchscreens measuring in at under 5".
What progress!
I look forward to a day when I can imagine games in my head with no hardware at all.
No, it's fine. We just need to lubricate them sufficiently.
Agreed. I don't want a gaming system a two or a four year old could jump right into.
Even the 'real' consoles have a problem of developing games for an audience younger than the audience that actually uses them.
Well, it might hurt your reputation if you go around telling everyone you got a high score...
and I guess there is no option for +5, Sarcastic?

If you ever lose your kid, just run around screaming "Anthrax! Anthrax!" Until everyone runs away except for your child.
Well worth the Psychiatry bills, IMHO.

Like every other reader on Slashdot, I have trouble getting past the first two words of the headline.
