Peter Jackson did a similar thing with the Lord of the Rings. Many of the scenes that were done were re-filmed after production had already been done. In fact, some of the final scenes in Return of the King were re-filmed two months before the movie's release in December of 2003.
Jackson then released two versions of each movie, the movie that was released in theaters, then the movie as it was supposed to be with an extra 40 minutes for each one.
Jackson has already stated (extra DVDs in ROTK Extended) that there is at least another 10 hours of footage left on the cutting room floor that he would like to see put into the movie and then released as an anniversary edition, making EACH movie roughly 7 hours in length, because he wanted to stay true to the ENTIRE story and leave nothing out.
Sometimes directors have to make sacrifices to deliver a movie that's long enough to maintain the audience's interest, but not so short it leaves them feeling cheated.
To deal with this tragedy and to count the money he's made off of oil price increases.

If you notice, most of the movies are ORIGINAL movies, and the sequels that did the best were Spielberg/Lucas collaborations, or cartoon sequels (Shrek, Toy Story)
Take a clue Hollywood. If the sequel wasn't penned 30 years before the movie was in a book, don't waste our time.
Piracy has done NOTHING for lack of movie ticket sales, lack of movie ticket sales has come from CRAPPY movies!!! If movie studios would take the time to come out with something original instead of a sequel or a remake for every damn movie that has been out more than 20 years ago, maybe we would have some incentive to attend the movies. I'm so sick of hearing studios complain that people copying movies is what hurts them. Make something that's original and classic instead of birthing out another Herbie movie, or another Ring movie. Hasn't the industry learned its lesson from Police Academy?
Lord of the Rings was the last movie series that really captivated and moved an entire audience to go see it over and over again and spend the money on a ticket. We might see it again with the Chronicles of Narnia, but I highly doubt it.
Care to say it to me in person fatass? Or will mommy let you out of your basement long enough to reply? Maybe you can get your curfew extended long enough to get your ass kicked to the ground. Hope you can move that 350-plus girth of yours around without chafing your little pecker off.
No pop-ups, pictures, or talking paper clips are included to help explain the big words.

New Electronic Gaming Monthly talks to one of the 360 developers, and he stated that you need the removable hard drive to have backwards compatibility with XBox games on the 360. I guess you have to download some special codeset to work in tandem with the 360 in order for the games to work.
He also said the 360 would be released with a hard drive, but I guess now there will be two versions out...
And the hits just keep on coming!
Fortunately 49.9 GB of it was information pertaining to Gary Glitter.
I can breathe easy now.
There's something about a male troll and a male gnome bounding through the meadow holding hands that makes me shudder....
