I could not care less about how Debian is unfriendly for new users. I find the distribution for production servers far better than a redhat or whatever. (Although redhat is finally catching up with their up2date facilities). People mention gentoo, which is probably a very cool distribution, but if I want ports, I'll use freebsd (which I eventually will).
Yep, standard procedure. MS will send in salespersons expressing their 'worries' of the current developments. 'Nice business, would be a shame if something would happen to it...'
Me too. My audiophile 2496 does work with linux/alsa, but my emagic amt-8 midi interface doesn't. And forget cubase, I would really like to see logic for linux. But that won't happen, since logic will be a Mac OS app only.
I was at this concert series of classical music in Rotterdam, and every concert about 4 different mobile phones rang. So I am all for it. That or flogging. My own mobile phone is always in vibrate/silent mode. And off during concerts/movies etc.
Oh, you mean great Microsoft innovations like clippy and Microsoft Bob? (Bob is your friend..). I do not dislike everything MS makes. MS Word 2.0 was great. Their keyboards and mice are quite good.
Is that it won't play nice with samba anymore, office won't be compatible with openoffice anymore, linux and *bsd won't be able to read the filesystem anymore, wine will not be able to run MS applications anymore, and you are not compatible with privacy anymore.
Great. So where's the linux version? Kazaa is great for divx, but it's choice of non mainstream music was i nferior to that of Audiogalaxy. And I liked the client server setup: I was running the sattelite on my server, and selected songs via a webbrowser on my laptop. I then mounted my mp3 directory via NFS via wireless lan and I could listen to my mp3's wireless..
Ik really hope that gnutella will get better so that everyone will use it, since it is probably impossible to stop since it works without central server. I really loved audiogalaxy, expecially for obscure music, exotic remixes and lesser known classical music. Hate to see it die. But that's the napster way I guess..
I agree, I use linux for everything else but music, and windows for music programmes like logic audio. Still, windows is not de ideal platform for music, I had a lot of problems using windows, especially because of it's crappy usb implementation. So I'm saving up for a Mac. But logic audio does not run on OS X yet, so I would have to stick to OS 9. Linux does support some of the RME cards and the Midiman cards. I have a midiman audiophile 2496 which works with linux+alsa. But more support for midi interfaces, like my Emagix amt-8 would be nice.
I remember seeing the movie Tron, and I thought, how cool it would be if I had computergraphics like that in my computer (an Amiga 1000 at that time). And now, with the advancement of tehcnology, I can have.. without the need for a Cray Y MP! Sometimes technology is so beautiful, it brings tears in my eyes..
Me too, mp3's and p2p helped me find albums and music that I had heard, but could not identify. And if I want the music, mp3's are not good enough, so thanks to the p2p sources, I have bought much more CD's and vinyl. But I still refuse to pay 20 euro for a normal CD..
I don't understand: those 32 way sytems sounds like great machines to run linux, *bsd or another unix on. Why doesn't unisys focus on that instead? They should not depend on Microsoft crap?
I am proud to live in the Netherlands, where laws are made on principles of justice, not on how much the industry is willing to pay. (Senator Hollings, best Senator money can buy!)
Essential System administration by Aeleen Frisch. Covers Solaris, Aix, Linux, HPUX, SCO etc. Alas no OS X.
Ah, yes the Microsoft minutes, I wish I had 360 Microsoft minutes of sleep everyday..
Can it be hacked to be regionfree? And macrovisionfree?

It ain't easy, but not impossible. Heck, there are gazillion things that are not easy but not impossible, doesn't mean it'll happen anytime soon.

On the site:
"The installation is not that hard, and it has been wife tested..."

You mean, slashdot has a lot of lunix users? Lunix is the unix for the commodore 64.. (I kid you not).
Forget DDD. Where do I get Deep Throat on DVD?

I love the music Nyman made for Gattaca, but I also like the music from John Williams for the Star Wars movies very much.
I think Barbarella is one of the funniest movies that weren't meant to be funny.

Hope this destroys the crappy compaq brand. The ones who destroyed everything that was cool about digital (vms, alpha, vax, pdp 11...)
.. but.. does it open de pod bay doors?

Go ahead, maak mijn dag..
