  1. Re:Mythical Man Month on All Work And No Play ... · · Score: 1

I think both cases are completely valid, when you factor in all the time involved planning and organizing those 60 boys, getting them all to their assigned plots of land, and checking the quality of their work, it WOULD take more than one minute, just as it would take more than 1 hour for those 18 doctors to perform that operation (although the doctor's time management would probably be more based on the human body's limitiations, but you get the idea)

  2. Re:Quantitative vs. Qualitative. on All Work And No Play ... · · Score: 1

I think you missed the point, the comparison was intended just for that purpose, to show how much time we waste spending on useless pointless things when we could be achieving greatness. To get fired up over a little comment is pretty stupid (it's called irony, look it up sometime).

forget about changing things on this planet. Man will just have to evolve for himself over time and try not to make his home uninhabitable
So what you're saying essentially is that you're no-longer part of the human race? If everyone had your attitude then nothing would ever change because everyone would just figure "someone else will do it". The only way to affect change is have lots of individuals (yourself included friend) come together and make it happen. To say that man will just have to evolve for himself is really foolish thinking when you realize you're a part of it.

buti think you're over-analyzing the use of phasers on TOS, Gene Roddenberry once said that the show was like a western in space, so the phasers were used more like 6-shooters, but whatever, just my take on it

Remember back in the 80's when we as children were all assaulted with those terrible anti-drug ads from the mind of Nancy Reagan? The "this is your brain on drugs" ad being singled out as the possibly least effective ad of all time? Now, after seeing our favorite cartoon characters turn down drugs and tell us how "bad" they were... what effect did it have?
Most of us got to college (maybe even high school), opened our minds, tried some pot, maybe liked it, and have a pretty non-chalant view of things... maybe even smoking up every now and then. Those who don't do drugs do so for their own reasons, not because Arnold on "Diff'rent Strokes" told them not to. So the effect on today's kids will be exactly zero. If anything, they'll realize the lame "do-gooder" condescending attitude, and another piece of tripe will become unpopular and get cancelled.

So this is backed by a VC company? Which means that someone is trying to make money off this service. Which means that all the standard "information wants to be free" arguments go right out the window. This isn't Gnutella where its a labor of love for the people in charge, someone is trying to make a buck of off someone else's intellectual property/art, which makes it the category of piracy. I think that ::shudder:: the RIAA is actually right this time. Now when they come for gnutella on the other hand..........
