Its the flagship model! Sure, if you look at sales numbers I'm sure the number sold intel:ppc ratio is way up there, but come on. It is the desktop Mac that is missing.
Maybe its just the way I read the original statement I referenced, but the connotation to me was that the "real" Apple line had jumped ship to Intel, and there were just a few lesser products to be nailed down. A flagship model (powermac or equivalent) should not be classified as such. Xserve is well, considerably more specialized.
I suppose I should expect this though, remember when OSX Server came out? I don't even remember how big the discrepancy was between releases of the server and desktop OS. I guess turtlenecks will do that eh?
hows about that? parent gets two replies from people named Russ. Go figure:P
On a related note, I'm just glad to know I'm in the same boat as other people. I personally think that the internet is exactly where it should be, (sans gov't censorship) and visual media's evolution has somewhat plateau-ed (sp?) with on-demand type cable tv. $0.020016 (inflation)
AS: My closing thoughts: the transition to Intel is nearly complete.
Umm. No?
The iPod-centric portion of the Apple lineup is all Intel, but how about a real desktop? What Intel Mac do I want to buy if I'm not making a media center, or going to college, or bringing it with me? What if I just want a fast-as-balls Mac with a full sized keyboard, top of the line video, and expansion slots? Sadly lacking.
Its not like it matters, as I'll still wait for a while before going to intel. I guess I still carry a torch for PowerPC...
Obviously you haven't done your research. See 3M's Po' Boy(tm) Ethernet Glue, PickPocket(tm) double-sided tape (pulls the cash out of customers' pockets with DOUBLE THE EFFIENCY), and MoLANsses(tm) WAP gear.
Seriously, I'm pretty sure I've seen 3M cat5 and ends. I could be wrong. With their expertise at making transparent adhesives, I wouldn't be at all suprised if they were proficient at making fiber optic cable.
You'll find there's always someone willing to be paid to give a corporation a (voice/vote/means) to an end.
Religious zeal is a well used tool. I do not believe there can be liberty until corporations are stripped of their rights... (as in, they should not have political power)
...I'm looking at you, Military/Industrial Complex...
Or would "blowing one's own head off" be more appropriate?
Hey, Nirvana never charged $250 for a ticket. Tool isn't even that much...
Of course, I'll always prefer a local show under $30 (under $20 is best) for bands with actual artistic integrity. I'd see Bowie for $20, but I wouldn't go see Madonna for free.
...what happens if we have the 360 as the runaway winner of this console generation here in the States, but the PS3 or Revolution annihilates it in Japan? It would be kind of a weird dichotomy...
What we will get is a lot of crappy ports for either/or system. Madden '08 will be made to run best on 360, but Soul Caliber 4 will be designed to run on PS3 the best. I have a feeling that Nintendo will get a few high quality third party games, but will be doing most of their business off first party properties. Ports from other consoles will be fine, as wavebirds and the like (the cube's controllers) will work with the new box.
Besides, how good will rehashes of old sports games be? (ooh, how bout Nerf makes a football "controller" that you put the revolution remote in, then GO OUTSIDE AND ACTUALLY PLAY FOOTBALL? OMG FRESH AIR!)
Really though, let's assume they only divide Antarctica into East and West, (just like the hemispheres [oh, and apologies to the flat-earthers out there]) then that narrows it down to half.
I'm sorry, but if you have a manual transmission and use the phone on the left side of your head... Wait, does your insurance company know about this? Highway driving and traffic jams notwithstanding, there's no way you can have a free hand to drive with. Much less drink a mochaccino.
Also, this sentence infuriates me: The right hand has been left as the "free" hand for openning doors, etc.
Just thought you should know that:P
Interesting gameplay doesn't require better graphics. That would mean that you don't need a new video card or a new console to play these multimillion dollar games that are being shoved out. Without the software, the hardware market crashes, and vice-versa (at least with the current mode of thinking employed by publishers).
I don't expect gameplay to improve until all of the jaggies are off of Lara Crofts' boobs. I'm sure there are plenty of developers who have great ideas when it comes to innovative gameplay, but we all need to remember that EA and Sony are the ones writing the checks.
Personally, I hope that Nintendo comes out on top. Inversely, I don't hope that each of these 'innovative' games requires a $40 custom controller adapter module whosits on top of a $60 price tag for the game. That would really throw the idea of a low priced, accessible console down the crapper.
The RIAA only goes after individuals who they can steamroll into paying settlements. I think that if they tried to sue a state government, they might come up against a real barrier, and thus legal precedent.
A state gov't is a big leap from a single mom or a grandmother...
Microsoft will embrace the XBMC project just fine after they sue the project for trademark infringement over the XBOX name, and then release their own Xbox Media Center(TM). Its how MS does business.
If you didn't already read about the Windows Defender thing: look no further.
I think Apple's predicament with Apple Records is going to put them at a disadvantage in this fight. I believe the RIAA will pressure Apple Records to be uncooperative with Apple Computer. What that will eventually lead us to, if Apple gets dumped/dumps the RIAA, is indie labels getting cozy with Apple. There's plenty of great indie label music out there, and I think if Apple jumps on the opportunity, they could have a much better arrangement financially. Not to mention that indie artists have a much better chance of being able to actually MAKE money doing what they (I?) are passionate about...:P
Just for phun, a quick glance at itunes.com reveals the following promos:
Stevie Wonder
Simple Plan
U2
Bob Dylan
Black Eyed Peas
Barlow Girl
some Pick Your Faves garbage from the GAP
Now imagine that maybe you haven't heard three of these names everywhere for twenty years, and the rest weren't just flavor of the week dren. (ooh, sorry to Barlow Girl for the generalization, I won't be trying out the free download but thanks)
(ok now make a point)
I think that we as listeners (and creators!) have much to benefit from Apple Computer and the RIAA parting ways. The Legal hurdles Apple Computer have had to deal with for the last two decades will probably become worse (at the RIAA's discretion). However, exposure to new, independent music could prove to be a boon to artists and to Apple. Remember mp3.com? If anyone can pull off a stunt like this, Apple can. [/old school mac evangelism:P]
I can't believe Sony didn't just jump to Europe early after the PSP hardly moved here in the US. My local Target and Walmart have more PSPs than they know what to do with...and forget about selling those crappy UMD movies:P

My old 6100 Performa? Is that you? Mirage?
Finally I'll be able to keep a pizza on my DVD player and not worry about it falling off when I try to take a piece!

It's Chile's fault! they're the closest! Tag!
Escape Velocity and Marathon baby!
