  1. Market Analysis on PS3 Predicted to Lead Market Through 2011 · · Score: 5, Funny

I hereby predict that the Xbox 360 will have 100% market share of the "Next-Gen" market through September.

Microsoft, can I have my check now?

  2. Too Young? on Kids with Cell Phones, How Young is Too Young? · · Score: 0

I'm sure the only limiting factor as far as the commercial market is how old a child is before they develop competent speech skills. Hopefully this barrier will be broken through, and instead of learning to talk, Children of the Future will be able to text message at 6 months old. Speech skills will of course still be taught in the degraded American educational system, but "Classic" English will have gone the way of the dodo.

I've been addicted to 4hm's Gun Game. Makes you play through every gun and get a kill, ending with grenade and knife. It's definitely something different from the regular CS we've been playing forever. You'll see lots of custom maps too.

  5. Mac Gaming on Transgaming Technologies and Mac Developers · · Score: 0

How about before we all jump in to Mac Gaming, Apple gives users a way to turn off mouse acceleration in system preferences? Anyone who has tried to play an FPS with mouse acceleration enabled knows it is infinitely frustrating. We, as power users, gamers, etc. shouldn't have to download a third party app/utility just to tweak a basic mouse setting.

I know i'm not the only one, I was just digging yesterday to find a utility that does this so I can finally dig into Aleph One.

What, are we going to 'own' Mars now? Nevermind that people from other countries also read slashdot, American egocentric thinking has just gone too far if this is the way people are thinking. I think when we start leaving the confines of our planet is about the time we should grow up and learn to share the sandbox with the other kiddies.

Agreed, but until then of course, international politics will still be played as a game of "1,2,3, 'Not It'!" Iran, North Korea, Vietnam... Shit, even the Israel vs. OMG everyone issue has been passed around. Sit these people down and play rough. How about we tell them that we won't accept any more refugees? How long can a government keep acting in a way that directly inflicts harm to their people? Sensationalism can go a long way; we all know these guys in particular have been at it for centuries.

I know its a little offtopic, and its a little scattered because I'm at work typing a little bit at a time, I'll try to regroup later.
  7. Re:But are they sending any sailors there? on Japan Plans a Moonbase by 2030 · · Score: 0

Ever seen what gets sent when a 747 becomes INOP at a port without facilities to fix it? You'd think there's about 30 Rolling Stones concerts going on. Literally a mountain of toolboxes, ladders, and hardcases containing who-knows-what in diagnostic equipment. The best part is typically all of these tools get shipped on another 747 (at least if the parts go out of Seattle).

Sorry, couldn't find a pic, I'll see if i've got anything at home. It would be background stuff, but some illustration would definitely help.

Depending on the airline and ticketing agent, it may not matter. They should tell you to remove the battery and carry it with you at least. What they do on the other hand, may be something completely different.

I did a little more digging. Gamefaqs backs up the random track generator claim, as does the gamespot review via amazon.com that was mentioned a few parents back. I think my impression was closest, it is snippets of different types of tracks. You'll find typical cylinders and halfpipes, but some tracks will have all manners of obstacles. I always found it enjoyable.

I wish I knew where the wiki article was getting its information. I suppose that's the whole purpose of the peer review, eh?

mmmm. I think even with 70 tracks to choose from, I would have caught on. Maybe not. I played the hell out of F-zero X back then.

I'd prove it once and for all if I still had a 64... Perhaps we'll settle this on the virtual console :P

I thought the "random" tracks were just snippets of tracks put together, because sometimes they wouldn't seem very cohesive. It's been too long. There's been a lot of counterstrike between then and now. kills brain cells.

  20. Re:Escape Velocity Online on EVE Online's Next Frontier · · Score: 0

Don't worry, EV is still more fun. I tried EVE for a while, (trial) I wanted to keep playing at the end, but now I don't miss it. EVE definitely wasn't as story-driven (from what i saw in the trial), and it would drag someitmes (apparently space is big, who knew?). One of the cool things, like Escape Velocity, was that you could see all the cool shit you could play with someday. Tech outfits with a whole string of zeros and the like. I didn't find it as fun to play, as far as flying goes.

Combat was automated in EVE, and if you were outclassed by an opponent, it was over. EV took work to take out the better ships with some POS, but it wasn't futile. Maybe it was the (relative) simplicity. Arrow keys, some buttons on the left of the keyboard. EVE's interface, which was where most of the game was, was crazy-go-nuts. Something like 20 tabs on one side, for different aspects of the game, information, etc. In EV, you landed on a planet and took care of business, space was kind of a whole another activity.

I really can't find that much extra time to play an MMO. Counter-strike is pretty much all I go for as far as PC gaming. My mac is my primary computer these days (When I'm not at work :P), so i've stuck with EV and Marathon :P.

I"ll keep waiting for the real EV:Online. :P
