I have a 27 inch 2560x1440 monitor, with youtube 4k and test 4k media, I can tell the difference with 1080P vs 4K. Its a very big difference.
4K downsized to 1080P gives a great more detail, due to downsampling gives a higher detail, due to 1080P using 4 blocks with the same pixel, so 4k downsize, each 4 blocks are have a different pixel, its very noticeable. Chroma Sampling
Plus 60fps over 30fps YT is very noticeable, so thats another technology I want to see take off.
Also have a HDTV that is a normal 1080P HD tv, works great, yet i can tell the difference due to the low encoding rate on movies and the much higher on sports. Sports look absolutely amazing, none, none of the HD Prime movie channels are selling true blue ray quality tv. Comcast is ripping people off.
So do I want 4k? Hell, I want as fine pixels per inch as you can get, with the bandwidth to push it. We are no where a 50 inch tv running a high PPI, going to be a few decades away, which is a shame.
EA Star Wars Battlepacks only 4.99$ Act now and you can get the Super Deluxe Version for 199 dollars with access to the beta!
EA is screwing over everyone with micro transactions in all their games. The grind to unlock gear, and reducing quality. Where is Battlefield 5? Hardline is an absurd step back and it seems to be a fluff game so they can rape consumers by using the BattleField name.
> Women have been ruthlessly targeted on Twitter and on other sites like Reddit and 4chan, due to sexism in the video game industry, sometimes referred to as “Gamergate.”
This makes no freaking sense, How the the hell is the video game industry, reddit and gamergate followers ruthless attacking women on twitter?
Other than the 3 women who are anti-gamergate, where are the actual victims? Where are this masses of criminals doing this? I keep reading about it, all these evil people doing it, but nobody is ever arrested... Smells like propeganda for some special interests, like some group looking for funding for their businesses... Look war on women going on over here! But please dont investigate, just take our word.
So, this Zack Miners who wrote the story for IDG, the same IDG that pushes the war on women narative on all its publications without backing up it up with any facts. IDG Tech news = gossip, rumors and attack on evil gamers attacking women. Sheesh.
I've been using debian vservers in the past, and now lxc. RedHat 7 and its LXC integration is amazing. I use KVM as my hypervisor of choice, so I'm already using virtual machine manager, so now I can manage my LXC hosts with VMM, its really a nice touch.
What really interests me is LXD. LXC containers in a real isolated container that I can just move. Right now, I'm stuck to zipping and moving LXC's directories if I want to move them. I tend to use OS containers stripped down, because I want app/tcp/ssh/nrpe installed, so I can make sure the service is alarmed, and I use ssh for remote management.
Docker tends to be aimed at enterprise usage, if you have lots of single applications appliances, you can roll out and tear down, docker is a great idea. That is a different use case, so I don't need docker, but docker is built on LXC, so I get that added benefits from support from Redhat. (and Centos7 support)
I'm running an IT shop, so my servers run for years, and I need to be able to manage, and support them. LXC containers is the perfect middle ground for me. LXD is the only thing I'm missing, moving file based containers.
So, I'm happy docker is pushing technology, because the stack it runs on is also benefiting from it.
BTW, I wish Redhat would support LXC VM's on its REHV (ovirt) platform, then I could consolidate even more VM's into single VM's. Guests with bridges with macs are filtered due to IP spoofing rules. Kinda silly when RedHat pushes LXC on 7, but doesn't test LXC on its Visualization platform.
>I don't know about rioting, but I can tell you that if he returns home, and doesn't receive a fair trial, I will be one of the ones out there protesting.
Depends on what the definition of "Fair" is, he gets a lawyer and a jury, so thats fair right? The judge will either approve or deny his plea argument. Think about that, he cant use a whistleblower plea because there is no whistleblower argument under the law. The judge wont allow it. This is the same thing that happens with state crimes in federal court. You could have a state permit to grow marijuana, but its federally illegal. So having a license by the state, is not allowed as a plea argument, and its excluded from the jury.
And then the judge will instruct the Jury how to weigh the evidence. If the jury follows his instructions, he will be found guilty.
If the courts ban your testimony and evidence for commiting an action, how can you defend your action?
And appeals courts, they only rule if you had fair trial, not new evidence. DNA can set you free, tough, its new evidence.
Both my google voice mail and tmo voice mail transcribes into text, and I can delete or hear it with only press. Go ahead and leave me a voice mail! Only problem is most carriers charge for "visual voicemail" services... That should be the thing to attract people, after using transcribed voice mail services, you never ever ever want to go back.
I can read my voicemail in meeting, its great.
If I was a phone system vendor id be adding transcription, make those IP phones display the voicemail, etc. Even asterisk and freepbx can do transcription.
Great, now I gotta carry 3 phones, my work phone, my personal phone, and the government mandated identification phone. You dont need the 4th phone the "weed" phone anymore in my state, its legal in Washington. Well, if weed is your only illegal activity...
I read a bunch of news sites and its easy to see if they are left or right leaning. Wikipedia isnt balanced anymore. There are paid editors who are very left, and the majority is left, feminist and social justice leaning. They can bend any topic to fit a narrative which is damn annoying for a fact based article when its riddle with emotional propaganda.
Love watching news on youtube, the young turks network is pretty good. I like to play the TYT drinking game, take a shot every time they blame a republican or mention gun control.
All those nice coverage maps show voice and doesnt include data. Rural areas have no native Internet providers, so often if they do have Internet its hauled in by microwave. I know this, the town my mother retired in shares brings in data so Verizon can vpn over it and provide data to the school and public libarary. It was great, verizon put in a tower and we had 4g and voice. But with people moving more into rual areas to retire, the bandwidth hasnt kept up with the usage, so now its down to voice only.
The thing that really pisses me off, is we have underground power and smart meters to all these rural homes, but no internet over power. Even slow speed would be better than the dial up they use now.
I've been watching 4K on my shimian korean 2560x1440 monitor. Waiting for gaming 4K 120hz models with ati compatible gsync comes down in price. Even at 2560x1440 its a noticeable improvement over a 1080P blueray.
I cant wait for netflix to offer 4k streams, even on my lower than 4k rez monitor its worth it.

Part of the population of the US wants to ban guns, so some states are taking baby steps to pass laws that will make it easier. Total registration is the first step in the future plan. These states keep saying they need a federal/state registry to check for criminals, when all we really need is an 800 number for people to call in before private sales, a simple yes/no if the person is allowed guns. Only a ban list is kept, and never a total registration list. Thus no private sales to criminals, and we keep our historical idea of a ban on government confiscation.
(Except NY, they are chipping away rights faster than California, how would you like to be a store owner with riots like Ferguson and have only allowed a few bullets in a magazine due to bad laws...)
For the kids, the brainwashing has started. Its Doctors asking kids if their parents have guns at home or Teachers trying brainwash kids that guns are bad, and if you mention guns, its a suspension.
This is about forcing political change with the children. Also why people want to stop all religious actions, mandatory LGBT studies at k to 6, rules on cakes at school functions, ban student stores, ban the pledge of allegiance, mandatory feminism classes, etc.
My son looked at me as a systems admin/engineer (or sme on some apps), and the hours I put in, and decided to be an electrican. Hes 18 already completed his electrical training, has his trainee license and is following a journeyman around, and in 2-4 years should be making around 50K to 90K (50K is US average). He can do a 40 hour work week, has the ability to move to a smaller town and still make a good living wage.
Being in the tech field, I'm stuck to major cities, on-call hours, off hour maintenance windows, and cant just take a couple weeks off to go enjoy life. Sometimes a blue collar job at a little lower pay than a white collar job has more benefits. Really depends.
Seattle area has been building tens of thousands of low income apartments that are cap'ed at 50K income, and are brand new, and look better than some of the apartments 2x the costs.
So many schools, librarys and entire towns have no Internet access here in Rural Washington. The rich suburbs down the road near the lakes do, but not the inner city (very small city) does. My mothers town everyone is on dialup. They did start beaming in microwave to the town library and enable wifi. So People drive in and sit in the cars to get online, crazy. Funny thing, she use to get a flickering of 4G Verizon, but verizon shared the tower with the microwave isp, so company made a decision to cut Verizon's data to feed more bandwidth to the library. Now everyone is stuck on dialup. This is about 50 miles north of Spokane, WA.
This is crazy as everyone has underground power and telephone lines, but no internet. The power company put everything underground to save money from falling trees every year, and that had to be expensive as hell.
>Are there any plans for additional desktop package repos for any of the Redhat based distros? I Remember looking for a little while a year or two ago but I didn't find any.
Yes actually, It comes with KDE or Gnome out of the box.
>there certainly is a shortage of tech workers in the US willing to work for 19,000/year
Up here in Seattle, there are blocks of apartment buildings manned by outsourcing companies like Mindtree where there are 3-5 Indian contractors living in each unit getting paid under 30k each. With houses going for 3-4K and 3 bedroom apartments going for 2K-2.5K, they have to have so many people living together to save money.
I saw ATT Wireless replace an entire billing department with cheap overseas labor, VP gets a big fat bonus and leaves. Then department fucked up and was billed 1 million dollars a day for almost a month and they had to bring in very expensive contractors to fix the issues. Funny thing, this is happening all the time, the PHB outsources, collects a fat paycheck, moves on, and boom, issues appear.
But I've also worked with NOC's from India and helped build one out. We pay 5K a month for 4 people for 24 hours watch our network and take tickets. There is no way we could afford that here. The problem I have is the NOC use to be a stepping stone for jr sysadmins to work their way up, and that stepping stone is largely vanishing.
Speaking of that, my favorite "contrary to public opinion" was the term MGTOW. Men going their own way This MGTOW motto is the main motto picked up by most mens rights groups. The MGTOW page was deleted multiple times by feminists who said it wasnt notable, even though it was referenced in main stream press and published books and then the numerous websites and groups. But still deleted, over and over and over. So what did the feminists do? They created page called MGTOW for maximum gross take off weight that is just a REDIRECT to mgtow. The actual term is MTOW in aviation, so why the redirect and fight in the talk page? Politics.
This was almost 10 years ago since this happened, and still happens today.
History only goes back to 2009, but this MGTOW war is good example of the feminists of wikipedia fighting mens rights. Lucky now that enough mens rights groups and non profits using the term, almost 600,000 websites returned with a simple google search.
There are more wikipedia censoring going on than this one topic, but I'd say this is the perfect example of editors censoring. Also why I think they dont deserve government money with these oppressive and biased editors that seem to be backed by the foundation.
I think my favorite comment by an editor on wikipedia was "we dont have the room for a mens rights page, we cant have a page for everything". Amusing when every episode of very popular shows does.
If Wikimedia Commons works anything like Wikipedia, it will probably all be deleted in a week as "not important enough".
Any information thats not progressive or trendy will be deleted also. Cant have conservative, right wing, religious, pro capitalism or anti-socialist propaganda. And if anything is any way slightly anti-feminist will be deleted on the spot.

Anything to make wikipedia factual and not opinion of a few editors is good, sad it takes a lawsuit. Too many editors are using wikipedia as a political tool and not an encyclopedia. I have no love lost for the shenanigans going on over there by some editors.

Isn't this because the monitor industry stole some pixels? The 1920x1200 monitor vs 1920x1080 chops off a good portion of the screen real estate.
Hell, a good 1560x1440 or more is perfect for side by side, no need to flip. (for me anyways)
