I was waiting for someone to point out that creationism and the theory of evolution aren't completely incompatible.:)
The problem is some people aren't willing to see that the Bible is not a historical document, it's a religious document. It's an instruction manual on how to build a relationship with God. Unfortunately, I wasn't taught that creationism and evolutionism might be compatible until college. All through my earlier years I had thought of them as completely incompatible, until I learned more about evolution and I, without having heard of Intelligent Design, came up with the idea independantly.
The early church made critical errors when it took the Bible literally, which has referred to the earth as flat and the earth at the center of the universe, and the sun as moving through the skies (as opposed to the earth moving around the sun). The church backed up the latter two as far as I know, and any scientists who claimed otherwise were in danger of being called heretics. Which would have been bad.
Eventually the church was forced to admit (only last century, I think) that the Bible is not to be taken literally word-for-word all the time.
Now, the question is, is the church making the EXACT SAME MISTAKE again by assuming the Genesis creation story is 100% factual? I'm not going to try and argue for Intelligent Design, but I do want to make it clear that I believe the church needs to be more open-minded, otherwise we very well may end up looking silly again.
I say Intelligent Design paints an even more beautiful picture of creation than what I originally learned in sunday school. What more magnificent way to create the world! In sunday school I learned that God was with His creation and molded it for the entire period He created it. But the idea of him simply setting it all in motion with a single creation of the matter that would then go on to form the Big Bang... and then would form our solar system, and eventually all life on our planet. God set everything in motion and watched as His creation assembled itself. That shows me a more powerful God than the sunday school stories.
Nintendo has already used emulation lots:
- Super Game Boy (SNES)
- Pokemon Stadium (N64, emulates GB Pokemon Games)
- Pokemon Stadium 2 (N64, emulates GB/GBC Pokemon Games)
- Game Boy Player (GC)
These I'm less certain, because of changes, but the memory card screens in the game as well as the disc loading screens make me pretty sure they ARE emulated:
- Zelda Promotional Disc (GC, emulates Zelda, Zelda 2, Zelda OoT, and Zelda MM. Certain graphics and text have been tweaked in the final two.)
- Zelda Master Quest (GC, Zelda OoT and MQ. Again, hud graphics and text referring to "Z-Targetting" has been tweaked to match the GC controller.)
Well this news is like a week old (when it was first out there was only one Google result for startkeylogger, the article in question) so I'm guessing the majority of people who were hit have turned off their firewall or turned off the specific filter that causes the problem.
It doesn't have to be spoken text. If an incoming packet is caught by norton firewall with a keyword in it, the connection is closed reguardless of where it is.
Which means you can change your nick to one of the words.
Or even more devlishly, put it in your ident where noone will notice it. Your speech will be so powerful it will knock people off the internet. Or is it your breath...
PS: Another keyword that works is "stopspy", which is more useful for idents. I don't normally take advantage of stuff like this but it's too good to pass up.
To redeem myself, I will mention that you can work around this by turning off some filter called "Spybot keylogger" or something under advanced options.
If you lose your Steam password, it's analagous to misplacing the game CDs. You have to buy new ones. Nothing new with that, really.
Only issue is if Steam ever goes under. That's when the certain patches made by certain individuals to separate the games from Steam will become popular and useful. Also because Steam is gone Valve likely won't be in a position to care (and might even release one of their own).
So that when the have to pay me for the right to pay money, they'll have to pay me so that they can pay me for the right to pay money. But wait! They still have to pay me so that they can then pay me for...
Considering advertisements have basically taught me never to trust them, not much would change without them, except my favorite TV shows would be on 33% longer, the internet would be safer to surf (well, assuming haven't already migrated away from IE), etc, etc.
Word of mouth is a perfectly good method. I've downloaded more than a few programs because people have recommended them to me. Firefox and Thunderbird. OpenOffice. Linux (not quite yet, too lazy to partition, but I'm getting there). mplayer. Apache Web Server. MySQL. The list goes on... granted, these are all free software packages I've mentioned, but then again I usually don't see ads for them anyways.:)
Ah, but whereas you might not be able to easily escape someone's physical grasp (depends who you are and how much martial arts training you've had, among other things, of course!:)) it's alot easier to log off AIM or even change your screenname... and then you can sever most ties with your real life if you haven't already (ie take real name off profile) to make it difficult for someone to pin down your new name.
Still... I agree, eventually it'll become a problem. Of course the real problem is the acceptability of divorce... if it was looked down on more, marriage might be taken more seriously.
It would be easy as pie. Just write a program that randomizes the least significant bit of each sound sample (which is 99.9% likely where it stores the watermark) and the watermark is now obliterated. The remaining 00.1% is if they choose to use two or more least significant bits, but that is less likely because the more you use the more static you introduce and it'll become more noticable.
Good point with the Colt example, that hadn't sprung to mind for me.
it probably wasn't the sysadmin's fault, but a department head who has no training in IT, but does everything Toilet and Douche tells him to do.
From what I understand most companies have a Chief Information Officer or equivilent position who's job is to look at Information Technology and determine how it can be used to help the business.
So, there probably IS someone at the hospital who is responsible for making sure that what just happened couldn't possibly ever happen. Guess who probably got fired.
Well they were doing it long before it was seen as a negative thing, and they've since removed it, since now views have changed. I don't see a problem, except maybe they could have been a tad faster with it.
...is a very important date in Telecommunications.
My Networking and Telecomm prof says it's about as important as the eventual day when the last car manufacturer will announce they have ceased production of gasoline-powered vehicles.
Now if only it would allow you to search multiple search engines like Firefox's built in search.
Actually, according to Google, custom buttons can be easily made to use whatever search engine you want. Even if one isn't in the online gallery, Google claims it only takes about 3 lines of text to create a new button.

It's probably for the best it isn't. It's already on the original N64, and TWO GameCube Zelda compilations.
It's not a fox or a racoon. It's a Firefox, which is a real animal, which looks similar to the plush.

The game released on Steam is the sequal to the UT2K4 mod.
You fools, the military ALREADY has this kind of technology! DON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY.
Then my school is in violation of it, as I took a Cryptography class this January and have been breaking codes all month.

I could have told you that and I've never played sports video games.
it makes it virtually impossible for us, from a practical point of view, to enforce UK anti-piracy legislation
Drat they're catching on to my plan! *flees*

Genesis (Bible): The universe was created.
As Douglas Adams has said, this has been generally viewed as a bad idea and should never have happened.

So no... Wine was only made for x86 machines.
Wow, that post cleared up alot about that whole fiasco for me. Thanks.
