I would love for apple to sell OSX bt itself. They will never do this for too reasons. 1st they are a hardware company. 2nd Apple does not want to support every different type of motherboard, sound card, video card, etc. that is out there.
2nd point I feel is a bad one. The hardware companies should provide the drivers for their hardware. Let the os makwers provide a set of communication rules (APIs) that all can see. The hard ware companies make the drivers for all the operating systems. Then we the people could getwhat we feel is the bast choice to meet our needs. Wait MS still doesn't fully do that....
I would love to see some scary looking parts not matching computer running OSX (and no I am not talking about the pumpkin macs).
(Try deleting a file from Windows Explorer without the right mouse button or the keyboard. The option to do so simply isn't there)
all with the left button:

As for the mac UI thing. I have seen a lot of new computer users take time picking up any UI. It doesn't matter which UI one has a new yser to computers will take some time to pick up on that UI. Once a person is used to one flavor UI they may have a hard time switching to a different UI. Most of the mac (sorry apple back in the 80s) computers sold that I saw were computers sold to artist/music types then education types. These people also accounted for most of apple computer sold till OSX. Remeber that back then most education software was also on the mac not the pc. Wasn't apple even promoted as the machine for the artist and the elite? There is a Jobs quote somewhere to that effect. Back on topic. People get used to one UI and they like it. You actually think apple is going to change the UI on OSX? Hell no, it is selling more hardware for them. If you like one UI over another fine. If you haven't found one that is you yet, please keep on trying different ones. Still can't find one, then write your own, or find someone who will write one for you. Who knows, the UI you write (of have written) may be the next big UI and be bought from you be apple, ms,
I am doing the same thing that I have always done. Do I need DX-10? no- do nothing yes - then get DX-10 stuff
as it stands right now, I have no need for any DX-10 stuff. Work wanted Vista and offive 2007, so it got installed. It works, I could care less about how shiney it makesapps and stuff. It acts just like xp only slower. I still have a single core proc. Vista like multi core procs. Single core procs get pegged at max on every application start. It has gotten old very fast.
pick a 256mb agp card. (nivdia 7800 or ati 1600pro for all the dx 10 eye candy) I used a fx5200 and it worked fine in vista beta and the final version. using an radeon m-9600 now and that works fine too. Granted this machine is not a gaming machine. your fx5500 isn't strong enough while my fx5200 (well it is a bfg fx5200 ultra 128 mb on board) was? The fx5500 were supposed to be a better faster card then the fx5200 line. What are you expecting the card to do? play all the DX 10 games? Get a dx 10 card. Those cards were out long before dx 10 was.
What country are you in that doesn't have good agp cards? Order it online like a whole lot of other people do. Yes you have to pay shipping, unless that is also not possible in your country.
techniques to prevent fraud, like requiring IDs, purging voter rolls of people who've died or moved, or using ballots that can be actually recounted (like punch cards) are actually attempts by the Republicans to suppress Democratic voters.
-- purging the voter rolls of dead people or people who moved is the right thing to do. Else someone could say that they are Mr. Smith (who died or moved away)and vote. There have been numerous accounts of poeple voting who have died.
But if you are dead, you don't get to vote anymore. And if you move, vote in the area you move to.
Because, just because you need ID to buy a booze or cigs doesn't mean it's reasonable to require ID to vote.
-- again people should have something to say where they live and that they are who they say they are. Every time I voted I have been asked to show proof of who I am. A voter register card is part of the proof. A drivers license or school ID, passport, military ID are others forms. The voter card to say that person ABC is supposed to vote at that place. And something to proove that you are person ABC. This goes back to 1988. I remember my mother being asked to show ID and her card back in 1976 so all of a sudden this is republicans suppressing Democratics?
30 subjects 2 pics each being looked at by 42 judges. So it is 30*2=60 samples being looked at be 42 people. The same 60 samples were looked at over and over. Sample ABC is still sample ABC if it is looked at 1,2,3... 100000 times. It is not going to change. They should have had more picsures of the sample peole and a much larger (400-500) people sample to start off with.
Ford just replaced a bunch of parts on their dime on my 1998 explorer. 130,000 miles (and counting).

A better answer is to accept certification for what it is, and not try to make more or less of it than that. It's a reasonably good assurance that the person has been exposed to the basics of what the cert is supposed to cover and has some knowledge of the tools or technologies involved.
This is uaually true but not always. If you are interviewing for position X, then have a bunch of questions that apply to position X. Use those as the basis to make your desision for hiring someone. I interviwed at a place, didn't get the job. My friend worked there and called me to come over and fix their database system. I went in. The person that was hired was freash out of high school, and had just about every MS cert I have ever heard of. Including the MS database ones (MSCDBA??). And got a $150k salary. Anyway,I looked at the database, then looked at the calls to the database. Besides a primary key, there were no indexes. I made a few indexes (easy to setup but took a while to finish being created), changed the calls to use those indexes. The system was running fine and very responsive. The owners were very impressed. Then they asked me why I looked so familure. I told them I had interviewed there and they hired that guy. The one with all the certs but didn't know to use indexes on database tables that wer over 5 million rows in size. I never got offered a job there. I did hear that the guy they did hire was gone the next day. It turns out the guy's father works at a MS training center. He went their almost every day and took the tests. He got certified by passing a whole bunch of tests that he took over and over again. I wonder if one could take a test grade it and not submit it unless you had a passing score back then (1997-1998).
verizon really does nerf the phone. They also want their customers to buy all the accessories (chargers, headsets, etc.) from verizon. I picked up a headset for a razr that will not work in a verizon razr but works in other razrs. Why? verizon changed it so that you have to us the headset adapter. The other raxr headsets plug into the mini usb plug and verizon want to use the old mini plug.
if one two VHS machines (or a DVD player and a DVD recorder) connect to their TV via the cable or RCA connections you can still make recordings. Play protected video on one player. Then record on second player using the input from the RCA or cable connection. I think it'll work if you also have s-video in on the recorder. You may loose some quaility but it should work to copy the video. No high speed copy this way though. Also how many people have more then one VCR/DVD player on the same TV?
I have seen VCR repair shops (back in the 80's) do this all the time. One VCR played the movie while anywhere from 1-20 were recording the video. I guess the same would work for DVD (and HD-DVD/Blue Ray/what ever the next medium is) recorders.
I think that is what the DRM is doing controlling the content through to and including the display device.
entertainment types are a bad example. Image is everything with them. For those that image matters most, creativity is not going to matter much. Leave the entertainment business (writers/hollywood/musicians/TV/sports) and there are other creative people in the world who could do a lot more if they had more money.
If all the money disappeared (like Earth on Star Trek) do you think the world would be more creative? I think that if everyone could do what they wanted to do and still be able to live/eat/be healthy/have clothes/a home that life would be all good until the tasks that no one wanted to do would cause chaos. How many people really want to clean out the sewers or other necessary but not so pleasing/rewarding jobs?

you do know that form does catch fire really easy right? The melted foam in the last pic is totally not a surprise. One can burn foam with a match. Maybe if the example used something that doesn't melt as fast, like an old laptop case? Don't movie people use burning foam cups in sound effects?
looks mnore like you bought someone's BS.
There are less people paying into SS now that the baby boomers are collecting SS. So either the SS amount taken out of everyone's (in the US) paycheck or the SS money pot is going to shrink. I have 30 years before I can start collecting. 5 different financial planners figured at the current rate of SS payments (moneny out and money in from working people) I would get about $30-$40 a month. I am not sure about the rest of you but $360-$480 a year is not going to cover much in the US.
I wonder if they mail the SS check over seas... buy some land in a country with an average yearly income of $1000. Oh wait, little electric, little running water, I have to be a farmer/fisherman/raise cattle for meat myself. Dam I want to stop working and relax, not stop working to start working a hell of a lot harder when I am older.
Sorry everyone making fun of Al Gore on this is 100% Correct. Al got elected VP in 1994. He got this push though after thet. I remember using the Internet to do research back in 1991, 1992, 1993 and a lot of people used it before then. So we using the Internet before he created it. Dam those time traveling rooms back in college. I need to use them now.
I have been in three accidents in my SUV. I have been rear-ended three times. Two at a traffic light and the other at a stop sign. My car was drivable and I continued on my way. All three cars that rear-ended me were towed away. One of them was drivable but the driver wasn't able to drive. They were too busy being arrested.
The bad drivers that I have seen are most luxury car drivers (all types SUV, car, whatever), then if the people who don't drive according to the weather. If it is snowing, slow down. If it is raining very hard slow down. 4-wheel drive means you may be able to go in bad traction but it does nothing for stopping.
Unless you have a SUV with big ass metal spikes on the tires and the wheels spin backwards when you press the break petal, you are not going to stop any better then the smaller cars on the road. In fact phyics says you need more space to safely stop.
I was thinking of the other kind of tailgating. The one with all the cooking and eating going on. Are the police going to ticket people for having their grills too hot? Too many grills in a small area?
If you earn real life money on something, then that real life amount gets entered into the other income section on your taxes. That is it plain and simple. If people fill out their taxes correctly there is no problem.
And yes the other income section can be bigger then your main income section. A lot of people have a regulra job. That is their primary income source and all the info about the job is there. The other income (ebay, selling whatever) amnount may be bigger but you qare just claiming an amount not where you got it from. This is what people do.
Fill out your taxes correctly. If you are earning real money from selling virtural things, then put that amount down in the other income tax section.
only if yo make less then 10K and are being claimed by someone else.
This happened to me, I went to school full time, but earned $10,200 (something just over 10k) and I got nailed at tax time. I am a full time student. Not if you earned over 10k accoding to the tax people. It may be lower now I haven't checked.
And it sucked. The place where I was working we were on comission. It was a hot summer, sold a lot of AC units. Which 90% came back when it got cool. They took the comission back. But it never was taken out of the taxable income. I had minimum wage adjustments for 5 week straight wehen the AC units were returned. But no income adjustments.
4 wheel drive can help one get moving in snow but it does nothing to help one stop. What was that physics thing about a body in motion? I still think a winter drive course should be set up and made a mandatory part of one's road test. That and backing up. In places where snow and ice are a reality, people should know that they can drive in it. Putting all these new things in cars to make them safer is leading to more and more dangerous drivers. I know a few people who think that with anti-lock breaks they can drive as fast as they want to and stop in 1-20 feet. I am not kidding. And now the auto parking car? Give me a break, if you can't park your car in that spot... look for another spot.
Do I have a SUV, yes and no. It is 2 door, it does have 4 wheel drive but it is smaller than the mini vans that would be able to haul the same things. I wanted a vehicle that I could put the doors and sheetrock in (I was fixing up my house at the time) and also be able to haul the boat, jet skies that I don't own but I usually wind up towing when I visit the people who do own them. The house I lived in had a single car garage. It was a car port that was walled off to make a garage. The little SUV fit inside it. The full size SUVs don't too tall and usually too wide. All but the really tiny minivans were too tall. I test drive 8, took them home to see and all were too tall. I park my car in all but the sub-compact parking spots. I do call it a car rather than a truck. IT is higher than most cars, but I drive it like a car. Not a sports car. If you can drive your regular car around at 100+ mph and take sharp turns more power to you. I do not do that. I drive slower in the snow and rain. I get passed all the time in the snow but I get to where I am going, safely.
I have a friend with a land rover who was always saying he could go faster than everyone else in the snow. He did that until we did a little test. We went to a big open parking lot when it snowed. Took each car to 40 mph then stood on the break petal. Guess which car stopped first? My little SUV stopped in ¼ the distance then his land rover did. And his land rover was newer then my car. Then he rolled it on a jug handle a few days later the new car was a smaller SUV.
Yes my gas mileage sucks, I get 19 around town and 24 on the highway. And I tow a bunch of stuff without a problem. A pickup truck was not an option, I don't want the stuff I put in the back out in the elements.
I was thinking the way we are going GATTACA could be a reality. Then overboard apple zealots will want to have apple red colored kids. (Since apple white or apple black would seem too racist than again to the true apple zealot maybe not).
If people really want to have 'red' kids marry (or just have kids with) American Indians. After all they are often referred to as having 'red' skin. I mean no offence to any American Indian reading this. Hell the two Cherokee girls I know are hot as hell.
With the IPod batteries, Apple did design them to last a short time. Apple's original response to people was to "buy a new IPod". What I found is that if you completely kill (discharge) the battery from time to time. Your IPod (or other device) will run better. Killing the battery in the Ipod is easy keep playing music till the IPod turns off. Then turn it back on and play music again. Keep repeating until the IPod will not turn on. Then charge it for exactly NNN number of hours. Until it has a full charge. (I have found that the firewire and computer charges the IPod faster then USB and computer. While the outlet firewire or USB charges the fastest. 1.5 hours outlet, 2 hours firewire and computer, and 3 hours USB and computer for charging) When the IPod is fully charged take it off charge and play until it dies again. Then recharge.
I did this on my friends IPod that lasted under 5 minutes on the battery. After the cycle he had 12-13 hours of use. IT was a 2nd or 3rd gen IPod. I do the same thing with my video IPod. When I notice the battery not lasting through the night, I kill it and charge it for 1.5 hours (outlet charger) and then kill it again. The hours of use goes right back up.
as for the razr, I hate the back cover. It comes off everytime I take the phone out of the holster to charge it.
I need to personally check to see if supermodels can or cannot go the distance. This rumor must be but to an end immediately. I figure one week of 'testing' for each supermodel with a few days not testing in between to recalibrate the 'testing equipment' .

Oh driving tailgating... too close to lunch time
If you earn real life money on something, then that real life amount gets entered into the other income section on your taxes.
That is it.
only if yo make less then 10K and are being claimed by someone else.
I wish I had mod points
Where to start New York, Cali, Paris..
