Children are not legally considered to be mature or educated enough to have a will of their own, This is why they cannot (with the exception of prosecutors who pervade the law) be tried as adults for crimes, cannot consent to sexual relations and such.
Taking that away from anyone else, especially a child, is abhorrent.
I would consider taking a child away from someone else who may have had a fighting chance of a life, far more abhorrent than anything you have mentioned above. All this said, I am a strong supporter of rights for children to be legally allowed to make more choices, especially pertaining to education and religion.
How can achievement **detract** from a game? you aren't penalized for not getting it, and plenty of people derive enjoyment from these distractions. Your comment is littered with statements revolving around "I" and your opinions (Which is completely OK) , but you haven't actually quantified how these "meta" achievements are bad for the game.
Personally I find them a nice distraction once you start to get bored of a game, sometimes playing it contrary to the usual design is enough to re-ignite the passion for a game.
17 Year old and a 14 Year old actually, they both have part time jobs that pay the way (and before working age? If you arnt prepared to mow lawns or clean cars? you dont deserve the game). Both allowed unrestricted access. As far as I'm concerned, if the child is mature enough to be playing an online game in the first place, they are mature enough to have been taught to cope with anything the internet can throw at them. Think of it as the defensive programming approach to raising children.
And at the big family gathering on Boxing day, Laptops, Even low end Laptops seem to be coming with reasonable 3D acceleration nowadays, I've been playing Fallout 3 (Speaking of which, my heart goes out to the console users without all these great mods available, I'd be royally pissed off if I couldn't fix many of the glaring problems. Now its just a mild irritation) on my new laptop with surprising ease.
LAN networking can be achieved with a £5 piece of networking hardware, and I cannot recall once having a group gaming session without having a net connection.
And yes, there are some console games that are played on one screen. That's why I keep the consoles about, and those are the games (plus exclusives) that I buy for them. It is still my opinion that for cross platform, PC=>Console 90% of the time.
We don't, Single player games are installed and shared, and online games are purchased by all. Used to No-CD games for LAN but if its worth playing on a LAN, its likely worthy of online play.
Same as with a console, although there are a few games playable online with splitscreen, There aren't many that interest me (or AFAIK, in the first place, I enjoy Co-Op play, but consoles seem to be lacking recently)
You plug it in, turn it on, drop in the CD/DVD/cartridge and it works. No half hour installations, needles restarts, patches that take several hours to download and install...
You evidently haven't used a console recently, I've experienced all of the above with mine.
Not to mention the fact that my 4 month old 360's DVD drive decided to die recently. Now I have to piss about with Microsoft getting the console replaced. If that takes 2-3 weeks, I've lost 2-3 weeks of gaming. It usually takes me on average 30 mins to install a pc game&patch (10 hours a year), and a day to get a new DVD drive, I can live with that.
As far as needing to buy new hardware for new games? I buy a new gaming PC every 4 years, Halfway through my third cycle. I have *Never* needed to buy hardware to play a new game (Excluding of course, the rise of 3D Graphics-Once). I've had to turn settings down a couple of times, but never to the point where poor graphics interfere with gameplay ( In COD4 multiplayer I used to keep all settings low out of preference, not need)
I Spend £500 every 4 years. Even if every PC game I bought was available on the consoles I'd spend WAY more on the extra cost of console games (20 Games a year average, £10 extra cost due to console tax is £800 extra, not including the cost of the console)
I Spend a LOT more money per console in the long run than I do on my gaming PC, despite playing about the same of games on all of them.
Consoles are good, So are PCs. Your arguments alas, are not.
p0o9i8u - it looks random, but if you type it out, its a zig zag from p-u (And help her remember, its Pu!)
all sorts of shapes can be used, zig zags are best but a circle can be good too- and you can always hold shift for the first/last two letters for capitals etc)
I still cannot understand the rabid obsession with thinness the most people have, the two most importent things for me are weight and battery life, the laptops thickness is its least problomatic dimension. i would rather have this over the Air, this should also be tougher than the Air, which cannot be too tough. This also has 4G Ram, which is a must for any media work. The Air is more of a fashion accessory than a serious laptop IMO
For me, Piracy exists because i am a student, and as thus, can barely afford the noodles i eat 3 times daily, they arnt losing money from my piracy because i could never have spent it in the first place
Its too late to comment on most of your post, but 59.1 million people is 90% of the population, i think your numbers are a bit out;)
Simple screening in schools to look for potential mental problems would help significantly. not all people with disorders are highly visible (a lot of the times its the people you least expect) but there are plenty you can see a mile off.
i wont pretend to have all the answers, but i know that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
Prehaps it would be smarter to spend resources finding and providing care for unbalanced people, rather than banning anything (which means pretty much everything) that sets them off, No?
People seem to think innovation makes a good game
*Innovation is a good thing, but a tried and tested formula that still works fantasticly is just as good*
Plenty of Nerds play Pokemon, behind the grind (thank you save modification programs) it is actually a pretty decent online game, with plenty of depth and tactics
theres info on console sales as well, pokemon is a highlight
i'd say RTFA, but it looks like you didnt get as far as the summary...
Well the board at the moment has two options per question, but if you look at its shape, there are two sections behind that could be used, so i would say 4 is the likely roof
I chose between Comp-Sci, and a variety of different courses The problem is Comp-Sci is too much maths, and not enough computers for my tastes So i chose a buisiness and computing degree, and in my spare time have been learning java for 6 months by the time i leave, i'll have a computer degree to get me in the door, and a portfolio of Java projects to show my Java Knowlege
Even the 1.5 GHZ VIA Cores perform badly, only a nudge faster than a P3. there are other options, such as the pentium boards (see point 2) and an AMD socket 754 board (Why 754? , why not AMD2, even 939 just so we can use dual core!)
2: Price These things cost a silly amount, here in the UK its about £90 entry for the pathetic 500mhz boards, and about £150 for a 1.5GHZ via. or you can pay £150 for a intel board, but still need to buy a proccessor
And the nano ITX, well now those are ugly, for the cost of one of those i can get an xbox360...

I don't use Facebook, but are you not able to edit your own posts? Or is it like Slashdot, written in stone once you hit submit?
On Facebook you can delete your posts, But you can't remove it from peoples thoughts
Which further goes to prove, The only good anti-cheat protection is a human admin.
Which is why I have actually stuck to my boycott of the game.

If i had a WoW account i would be cancelling it this second, no videogame has the right to violate the privacy of my computer
Its like taking piss out of a swimming pool, you can make wii chips out of commonly availible materials for $5 (WiiFree, OpenWii etc)

There is still no chip for imports, as much as i love my Wii, i Refuse to pay $80 a game (UK)
Hopefully a *>Pal Chip will come soon...
Why would you need anything on the Wii in UE3 that UE2 Cant Already Deliver?
The Reply is simply you wont, its a smart move on Epics part
If people gave up the first time somthing didnt work, nobody would be having sex....
i applaud nokia for trying again, nokia always seems to be leading in pushing the mobile market further
