    cheap green tea like bancha and all those chinese teas don't contain much caffeine, but better japanese grades, especially grown in shadow, contain quite high caffeine levels. you can get high on caffeine much faster with gyokuro than with espresso.

    sometimes, scrapping the former system is better than patching it again and again, which is exactly what happens to u.s. bills.

    germany for example has changed the german mark completely three times between 1948 and 1990, designing better bills being the sole motivation. it also worked well, although there always were people who tried to resist the changes.

    other countries have changed bills quite a lot of times and it worked. the euro zone has switched to euro from 12 different currencies without any large problems.
    and the only people who should care about the looks of the money are collectors.

    your "major realities" are just showing laziness and unwilling to change, nothing more.

    i use my pdas for reading books, for about 5 years now actually. i like it and i think they are superiour to real books - adjustable font sizes, backlight for reading in darkness, real searching, much better bookmarks and of course the portability and storage capacity you already mentioned which is especially important when going on vacation.

    no way am i going back to dead trees.

    then buy an old nokia 8210 and a modern li-poly battery for it. it is small (although not very light) and you can get 10 days standby without a problem.

    exactly.
    i don't see why humans should make the job of computers easier - they were made exactly because humans did't want to be bothered by such details.

    and in real life the progression from smaller to larger date units makes more sense. if you want to know the date, the day is more important than month and month is more important than year because chances are that you already know what year and even month is meant. in this case, mentioning larger units is just a waste of time.

    used to be, but not anymore. this fucking terrorist hysteria has eroded the rights of fellow germans pretty much and the current lawmakers don't care about the constitution and even if an unconstitutional law has been removed by the german supreme court the lawmakers try to introduce the same one again and again, hoping that noone bothers this time.

    i read books off my pda all the time. a 4" vga screen is very good for reading, a 3.5" qvga screen isn't that good but it suffices.

    if you ram somebody from behind you haven't hold a proper distance which is required by law.

    if you only need it to take contacts a palm device would suffice. but then again you could use pen and paper in this case - no need for batteries.

    but if you want to read books, while listening to an mp3 or ogg in the background, watch movies sometimes, view and edit pictures you have taken with your digicam, have a gps navigation and so on and so on... you'll learn to appreciate windows handhelds very fast.

    you can get a cf with 6000k daylight and full spectrum. much better colours than a standard light bulb.
