Just like most cults, Slashdot readers hear what they want to hear. If you utter anything positive about Microsoft you are deemed computer illiterate. It is ironic that Slashdot has a topic about cults. Have you ever tried having an intelligent conversation about religion to a cult member? It is just like talking to an OSS zealot about software that the developer has the audacity to charge money for. Just watch how this is rated. Well, gotta go, Mormons are at my door!

A good question would be "can they do it"? Microsoft is great at solidifying technology to catch up with its competitors, or even through assimilation. They don't ruin products nearly as bad as CA or Symantec. I don't see assimilating Firefox, so, as late to the game as they are, can they pull off reviving the base of users they still have (that's a lot of users)? Why wouldn't it be called IE 7.1? Has it changed enough to justify 7 revisions?

  6. T1s have dropped in price and cable has not on Why Are T1 Lines Still Expensive? · · Score: 1

I am astonished, nay, embarrassed, that so many posts here don't seem to know what a T1 is. If you are ever getting less than 1.54 Mbps on your T1 (not burstable) you are getting ripped off. Try calling your DSL or Cable provider and complaining about that! Back on topic; I seem to remember cable always costing $36 and my T1 has gone from $850 down to $500, so I don't understand how anyone can think that T1s have not dropped in price.

  12. Re:No problems here at all. on Vista an Uneasy Sleeper · · Score: 0

Actually, that is incorrect. The drivers in the OS specify what power state the NIC is in when the system is shut down. I have Intel NICs that need no drivers at all and the WOL packet works fine, even when they have not yet been installed in the OS. I have 3Com NICs that never wake until they latest drivers are installed in the OS so the OS can put them in the correct power state when hibernating or powering off. I've worked on thousands of systems. This is why the entire article is FUD, because hardware doesn't always play nice.

This has already happened with the SLI once. They skipped to the 7800 series right away. AGP is out. PCIe has become x16. I'm not going SLI because I'm happy with my DDR3 6800GT until Asus releases next NVIDIA chipset that maximizes the bandwidth of my board. Might be tomorrow. Shit.
