There is absolutely no incentive for Heinz to put this into their bottles. This means people will spend less on average on ketchup per year since they can get every last bit out of the bottle. I know it may not seem like much, but multiply it by millions of bottles sold and it adds up to a hefty hit on their bottom line.
It seems like to charge, it has to be touching the charging device, or at least hover very close to it. It would be really cool if, say, you were in your house and your ipod just started charging, however, I don't see that much of an advantage here vs. just taking an extra 2 seconds and plugging in a power supply. Same thing with a wireless mouse - it's cool, but in reality, it's not that useful - i mean, how far away do you really sit away from your computer?
would I want my parents to see some of the emails that I've received and gotten from others? absolutely not! Those are private and only between the persons involved. If I wanted a particular individual to see something, then I would have sent an email specifically to them or put it on a public forum, i.e., a blog site.
If I send an email to someone, I expect that the email is for his/her eyes only - and to not be shown by anyone - even after death. I think this case is quite ridiculous, and I think this father may have this oh so goody two shoes vision of his son shattered if he gets access to his emails.
hey i'm asian, but the best ppl in my arcade are the white guys - well, it's probably b/c they're young and full of energy - but I can still draw a crowd when I do my full combo on trick oni! - well, up to max300 of course, then I fail miserably...
Dude, last time I checked, linux is an OS! The seal is only for *software* that runs on the win xp os - why would redhat need the seal? Why is this a 5?
And a little OT - why create links to the office depot website? Links should only be created to content that is in context to the story.

Kaazaa is just asking for more than they will ever get, so that they will get something. I agree with the person who replied for me. I don't think they really want to bar the RIAA from enforcing copyrights - they just want to get the RIAA into the negotiating room to settle their disputes out of court.
DDR has to be the best game ever invented! (next to SF2T Hyper Fighting and Pacman) However, unlike the other two great games, this one will actually help you to lose weight!
CmdrTaco writes a little blurb implying that this program will show as cheaters any students that have shared ideas with each other, but I don't see that with this program. From the article:
``But for the most part, the degree of similarity that this program is looking for - the commas are in the same place, the semicolons are in the same place, the spacing is the same, they've made the same mistakes - the only explanation, and what most students will eventually concede, is they actually did it,''
This type of thing should be caught and should be punished. Some people just don't belong in CS, and they should be weeded out instead of riding on another's shoulders.
Can someone explain something to me? If they create a secure version of linux, don't they have to give away the source code with it? So then what's the point of selling this for $3000? Who's gonna buy it when they could just ask for the source code and compile it themselves??? Or may be I just Don't Get It.
Ever play Konami's bemani series of games, like Dance Dance Revolution, where you have to match these series of arrows coming up the screen by stomping on a platform beneath you? Pretty easy concept, right? Thing is, there's really no losers, sure there's vs. mode, but you play for fun, to dance... sometimes, there's a crowd watching you play, so that's a plus, and besides, you get a pretty good workout that way. Also, some people do all these tricks like touch the platform w/ their hands and knees, it's all about the dancing, the game is just a platform... and it's fun!
I don't really like either of those because Real is expensive and Windows Media is, well, Microsoft
Not using a piece of software just because it is from Microsoft just shows ignorance. Use what works. Evaluate windows media before you bust on it. I use it, and it does streaming pretty well.
first of all, amazon is *not* making money, like a bunch of other replies to this post. But besides information, which is a definitely valid use use of the internet, i believe it is the formation of communities, where people who probably would never have known each other existed are able to interact and even be friends. That's why eBay is profitable(and it *is* profitable), it provides a service that brings people together from all over the world (well, mostly US) and makes their money on commission on every item that has been sold, that probably would not have been sold if it wasn't for eBay.
ok, so the glass has a diameter of 2750 nm, how small actually is this, they say 200,000 times smaller than a wineglass, but how small is this actually? They should've had a picture where the glass was residing beside a reference object, which most people would know the size of, or at least the tip of a ruler to show how small it was... oh well...
I think this *is* a valid choice for some customers who upgrade their ms office everytime a new one comes out. This way, IT people won't have to worry about installing a new version, and they also don't have to worry about installing patches and such to existing versions. I would assume this would be done on the backend, not on the client's computers. I believe it could be a valid cost-conscious choice if you weigh in the costs cut in install/upgrade support.
a government of the coders, for the coders, and by the coders
hmm... seems as if you forget why a company exists: to make money. The reason companies want their employees to be happy at their jobs, i.e., perks and such, is that it is more profitable for them to be happy and stay within the company then for them to leave. Companies would treat us like dirt if they knew we had nowhere else to go.
I'd just like to say that this kid is mature well beyond his years. To be able to stand up like that with enormous peer pressure and then taking things in stride when he got suspended, especially with all the media attention. I can't believe this kid's so calm.
I know enough holdouts who want to hold something in their hands before they'll plunk down money for it.
Well, it *is* nice to actually have the cd on you, ie, when you want to reformat your drive and stuff. Then you don't have to re-d/l all the files that you need, etc. and burning takes too long.
Computer source code is no different. If released in a non-Open-Source manner, it allows people to inspect code, but not copy it. New "features" in other programs are safe; they cannot be copied from the source (and even if they were, if all companies had to disclose their source it would be very easy to check for copied code).
What stops companies from releasing a product with the same feature as an open sourced application, that copied the code from that open sourced application, tweaked a few things, and then released their own closed-source product, saying that they did not copy that code?
Or what stops companies from just looking at the source, studying it, and then implementing it the same way as the open source app they got it from? All the hard work done by the open source coders, along with the money that was paid to them would be meaningless, as any other company can just look at the source, see how things were done, and then re-implement the feature themselves - but the hard work of designing and coming up with the best alorithms would be lost since it was open sourced. No, i do not think you can open source software without it being free - as in beer, 'cause human(corporate) nature says "what's the easiest and fastest way to make money?" And that would be to copy code, then tweak it a little bit. I mean, who can really say that it was copied? And even harder to prosecute are companies that stole the design and implementation, but then coded it themselves. They did not copy the software, but they did steal the hardest part of the work - the design. Therefore, you cannot open the source without losing money, since you would be giving away the design as well as the algorithms in how you did things, and companies can just steal that and say they did it themselves and release it as proprietary with no real concrete way to prove they did copy.
There are plenty of bad movies, but a major studio release without a single redeeming quality is a rarity, historically significant in its own right. Not as rare as you would think, take this one, for example.
No redeeming qualities? HA! i think you not watch the movie ------> Liv Tyler

I was wondering when someone was going to mention the clapper. Are the Listnr guys/gals just too young to remember this? It's the freaking clapper!
... the most retarded article i read today. I am stupider for it. Why is this both on slashdot and joystiq? You guys just want hits don't you.
if this is true, then you are not very good at guitar

Not to mention they tend to depend on Oracle anyway, so this takeover actually makes sense.
Actually, development for psoft is done on SQL Server, not on Oracle, and PSoft does support a range of databases.
Oracle on the other hand only runs on oracle, which is why so many customers are opposed to this takeover.
amen to that!
