I'm probably not the only the only tired of paying ~$40/month to be inundated with commercials. Personally, I only want three channels: Comedy central, ESPN, and History.
My gf just reminded me that 15" flat panels were about 10000 NT, so around $300. That is still a better deal than what you will find in the US. That was half a year ago, so there are probably better deals now.
Depending on how much you buy, you will have to pay duty when you return to the US. Personally, I had less than $200 worth of stuff when i got back, so i didnt have to pay duty.
If you go to Taiwan, make sure to hit all the computer centers in Taipei. It's kind of funny how all the computer stores there are clustered together. Some place colloquially named the "black market" has a ton of computer shops in one place. You can ever get CDs full of pirated software from gangsters if you please:)
Oh, one last note. We also went to Japan- Japan has a ton of cool gadgets, but they will cost ~10% more than they would here in the states. That was my experience anyway.
I was in Taiwan last December, and nearly everyone there has flat screens. It was hard to find CRTs anywhere. Even public schools have flatpanels. I should have bought one there, i could have gotten a decent 17" for around $250.
My gf(who is taiwanese) and i go computer shopping often and we are always aghast at how much more expensive flat panels are here in the states. $500 for a 15" flat panel? No thanks. Fortunately we have the hookup in Taiwan;)
I just checked out your websites.. As I am also a UT student, I'm amazed that I have not heard about your story from any of the media outlets you list at the bottom of the FindSabrina page.. Frankly, all I have heard in the last few months was all the news about the missing teenage girl from Round Rock (Georgetown?).
The reason why this happened is because MLS bought the rights to broadcast the World Cup for $40 million. Then they turned around and paid ABC for the air time.
ABC did not have a huge interest in showing the world cup, as their broadcasts tended to be minimal, and sometimes games were displaced by infomercials, etc. Not to mention the tape delay games were shown a day or so later in the case of USA vs Korea.
Anyways, I can finally get back to a semi-reasonable sleep schedule.;)
Perhaps I am the only one here who thought it was kinda lame. The dialogue was heavy-handed and sappy. Elfman's soundtrack was bland, only reminiscent of the much better Batman soundtrack. Maybe it's just me, but I can only take so many plot and dialogue contrivances, like repeating what somebody said back to them.
On the positive, I thought the battle scenes were well done, though the strength Spidey demonstrated at the bridge scene was a bit much.
I wanted to like this film a lot, but I was squirming in my seat for most of the picture due to silly dialogue.
I was in Taiwan in December and found that LCDs are ubiquitous there. Furthermore, a decent 15" to 17" LCD costs about 250 to 300 dollars in Taiwan. I hardly saw any CRTs there, as only the old, junky computers still used CRTs. I only wish I had 200 dollars extra with me to spend on a LCD instead of having to shell out 400 or so here in the U.S. for the same thing.
I second that. I was in Japan for 10 days in January, and, damn, their cell phones rock. Simply put, phones here in the U.S. are complete crap compared to what's available in Japan. Sending video emails and downloading mp3s to your phone rules.
Everything went down hill when Belkin/Monster started dominating the retail cable market. Jesus christ it's hard to find cheap cables. Not as if spending $60 on cables would make a damn difference over $5 cables.. I remember going to Compusa to look for a CD-audio pass though cable and seeing the $18 price tag. WTF is that?
This porn is "Hao can".. (My mandarin is bad.) Anyways, I was in Taiwan with my gf when the shit hit the fan with this scandal. Funny stuff. Everybody in the freaking country was talking about it. As for the vcd, I have it- and it isn't a vcd; it's in windows media.
Something similar happens here at the Univerity of Texas at Austin; many EE and CS majors who can't cut it take the economics route (the business school is extremely hard to transfer to). Which kind of works out, since an economics degree isn't so bad to have.
But to think that business-y people will manage us (MIS people i know are fairly clueless) is somewhat appalling.. Personally, I think the best manager is somebody with engineering experience AND possibly an MBA or business experience.
I think The Wrath of Khan was the first movie with realistic cgi. Anywho.
I agree that Tron is a piece of crap. I guess you either love it or hate it.

I seem to remember slashdot being better in the past... Ah, the days of no moderation and the glorious meeept...

I hope things turn out okay for you.

I'm willing to bet most slashbots don't have any athletic skills to begin with.
Guess it is time to work on that foot-eye coordination to see where all the action is at ;)
Amply demonstrated in the Star Wars universe, that is.
I'm guessing that Lucas' androids would be susceptible to EMP as well, which is totally unrealistic with our military design guidelines.
In any case, I imagine android soldiers of the future would be more autonomous, a la Terminator.
Yet they have to be clothed, fed and trained.
On a different note, no present or future war will see columns of soldiers march to fight each other- such tactics died in WWI.
when android soldiers are so easy and cheap to mass produce?
I clean my keyboard with Post-It notes.. I haven't gotten around to putting my keyboards into the dishwasher yet.
Uhh, I think he was making a Southpark reference...
You win a prize, dude :)

But let's face it, I'm more interested in scoring with 19 year old coeds than kernel hacking.

Dude, you just lost all credibility ;)
Watched it for 10 minutes. The "intelligent dialogue" everybody raves about struck me as trite.
I'll upload it somewhere, but I'm not going to share a 120 meg file directly.
