That OpenJDK could just get the lion share of development and mindshare. If LibreOffice can functionally replace OpenOffice there's hope for OpenJDK. Unfortunately LibreOffice had years of a head start on that front (functionally go-oo, etc).
I've seen many a question or thought like this and I don't understand the underlying wonderment. Web applications aren't different than any other networked applications. You just have a larger selection of clients that could be communicating with you. But you'd never trust ANY client would you?
While I agree in theory that the name isn't very well thought out, I'm not sure it is really that bad. Sometimes you need to rally on "stupid" things to get motivation.
Also I'm not sure Republican or Democrat is any less of a childish joke at this point. Just more historical.
For me all they have to do to stay relevant is release an up to date E90 running Maemo/MeeGo. Apparently that physical phone layout isn't going to ever come back.
Is there an Electrolysis ETA for Firefox? I have a bad feeling that WebKit will get this out first. Firefox is sure getting slower and slower in tech advancement.
Just because everyone seems to be taking my comment as in some way taking Ubisoft's side. I'm glad it went down. I was just curious which it was. I'd rather the system be attacked because then Ubisoft couldn't then claim it will get better or was just a mistake.
The N900's hardware and Maemo's software are finally making phones truly open. But to truly change the landscape we'll need more phones. To hit different price points and form factors. At this rate I think they'll remain niche unfortunately.
They don't achieve the same thing because the MSI while seemingly doing nothing more than an exe installer integrates correctly with Active Directory.
You don't roll out 10k+ installs with an exe.

No one. Seriously. I don't think you can even make certain all the components of an OpenMoko device are clear of your standards.
Price and supply. They're really just not available cheaply and in large quantities.

Perhaps we'll get the same posters here as well. I'm really not sure what could stop a fork of a GPL project.

"Consumers can opt out by turning off their phones."
I guess by that metric people who don't go there are also opting out.
Now how long before CyanogenMod 9 is released.
This is really what most of us care about at this point. Maybe 1% of us will actively use the code personally.

What geek willingly goes to InfoWorld?
So how is this story "at least a year old"? RTFA!
Such vicious ignorance. Please read the actual original article.
This story is at least a year old. Thanks slashdot for rehashing the past.
Fine Jeff you were right. But I still refuse to believe your next claim about hacking alien computer systems with a Macintosh.
Someone just faked that whole thing taking a fraps video of Osmos.

Seems about right.
Will this actually happen or is it just a threat? Murdoch isn't that stupid.
Before you let your roommates know you've possibly committed a felony make sure they won't turn you in.

What setting am I missing that blocks idle from appearing on the main page?
Earthquake-Resistant!

Down or DDoS? We all know exactly how easy it was going to be for an outsider to screw everyone.

I'd kill for a N900 in E90 form factor.
Yes.
