  1. Re:"Incumbent Patent Holders", not "Inventors" on Inventors Protest Patent Reform Bill · · Score: 1

There could be 1 benefit to no patents. 1 program that incorporates massive amounts of features for the given topic whereas with patents, some features may not have been available. Another company could compete by making the same program with a better interface, faster processing, and additional features. I guess something likened to socialism, new inventions and ideas would be merged to create even better products, but brings a negative aspect as it risks the profits of companies therefore slows R&D.

I view it as memory of phone numbers, etc is less crucial as understanding and memorizing the basics to gain the knowledge needed for everyday tasks such as knowing the fastest way to write down data and the best ways to recall it in a fast, efficient manner. We don't usually need to remember 30 phone numbers etc when we can easily carry a device which will store thousands. It gives us room to remember other things, such as more hobbies etc.

  23. Re:Pirates disgust me on Piracy More Serious Than Bank Robbery? · · Score: 1

What happens though when someone pirates quite a few thousand dollars worth of IP and doesn't have the cash to purchase it.

The crack fixes would have made quite a few people just say F it and buy it, and many more just giveup.

The part you say about the "I wouldn't have bought it" but I watched it I can understand where you're coming from but if you did pirate quite alot, could you really afford to buy it?

Many want the convenience of not needing to drive to store, find movie, rent, come home, mess with scratchs when they can just download it and watch it once, delete or burn n store it away. And hey you can save yourself quite alot of money pirating.

These are some justifications for people, just to throw them out there.

And I really dislike the fact he's saying hundreds of billions of dollars are lost, when property crime is 16 billion. Property is usually not able to be copied, it's loss means someone actually loses an item/money, and not POTENTIAL money. People don't have the funds to pay for each copy that is pirated, it's a waste of time using such a huge number as if it was real.
