    I just got back from England for 8 days and took close to 700. I am a bit of a nut though. Film is cheap, plane tickets are expensive. Digital "film" is even cheaper. It will take me a while to get through them all and a lot are duplicates.

    but yes, I left the laptop (and cellphone) at home and enjoyed lots of cask ale, thats the whole point.

    Anyone who successfully builds their own car, even from a kit, isn't going to take it to a shop for repairs. I'll grant you that a number of these will not get completed, but the $25k price tag is steep enough to discourage most of the truly inept.

    I know he's for "change." That's evidenced by getting a VP pick who's been involved in normal Washington politics for 35 years. I know that not voting for him will "prove the US is racist", so failure to vote for him will obviously prove I'm racist regardless of how I feel about his stance on issues.

    Remove the entire corrupt system and replace it with something that *can't* corrupt. Or at least design it from ground up to be secure...

    I'm of the opinion that an uncorruptable political system is a pipe dream, but I'm open to suggestions.

    the last few times I voted it took maybe 30 mins of my time total, including driving to the polling place. The only time it took longer was one time I decided to walk to the polls.

    Video games are not a sport. Period. This isn't Barry Bonds taking Steroids and then breaking a long standing record of physical performance. This is a game. I was pretty good at Oregon Trail on my apple ][, but I never had delusions of it being a sport, and aside from the fact that I was in elementary school, I doubt anyone would have cared if I was stoned when I died of dysentery. This is as much a story as the use of Quaaludes in Tiddly Winks is.

    I'll give you the whole Thoreau Civil Disobedience thing. I'm pretty much 100% on board there. thats fine for important social and governmental issues. Here is where we diverge. Gymnastics is a sport. Sports have rules. Those rules are for everyone. Don't like the rules, don't play. Do you think the rules of baseball are dumb? Go play cricket. Lots of sports periodically change or tweak the rules. It's not new. If you are caught cheating, then pay the fine, and play by the rules. Otherwise, you might as well go play Calvinball.

    I'm a big fan of the properly implemented traffic circle, but between people who can not put their heads around how to drive in them and cities that put traffic lights inside of the circle, in practice, they suck.

    Well then, you shouldn't mind if I take 15% of your fingers. You know, for those who don't have fingers and what not. It's really only going to be just the end part with the fingernails. You won't miss it, as you were probably just going to do something wasteful with them anyway, like posting your opinion on slashdot.

    yeah, but maybe instead of potentially upsetting the environment for the forseeable future to get more oil in 5 - 10 years, we could spend the same money and effort on finding and/or improving an existing alternative to oil.

    Cars manufactured after 1996 have OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics). You can get a code reader/clearer for about $130 IIRC. Also, a lot of auto parts stores will read your codes for free.

    You can get one for less than half that. look on ebay for "ELM327" or check out http://www.elmelectronics.com/index.html to order the chip and DIY up your own code reader.

    The Bose system in my new Mazda is by far the worst sounding radio in any vehicle ever. period. Along with the adaptive volume control that sort of seems to work, but you can at least turn off, it does some sort of sound adjustment that can not be turned off. It sometimes for no reason just drops all the bass out of the music. I have a 97 s10 pickup with 1 working 6x9 that sounds better. I generally won't buy a "premium" sound system, but it was packaged in with leather seats, which I wanted. Worse, if you swap the head unit out, you lose the trip computer, clock, and HVAC display. Bose sucks anyway, but this takes the cake

    The number of results is where its at, sorry. If I just want something common, like information on George Washington, I'm going to get relevant results from even the worst search engine. If I'm searching for more obscure things, then I already know and accept that what I'm actually looking for might be on the 4th page. If there are only 3 pages and none of them have what I'm looking for, then I've wasted my time. With google, I at least have the expectation that what I'm looking for will be somewhere in the results. Until cuil can return many more results, it's not worth my time.

    I maintain that the porn industry has done as much or more than anyone else has to push the development of the internet forward. Certainly they were the first to show that you could make money on this new media. Thats what fueled the .com bubble, a new business model, and the potential for massive profits. You don't see Jenna Jameson on TV claiming to have taken "the initiative in creating the Internet," although I'd rather watch her than Al Gore any day.

    I can't tell you how many machines I've built for myself and others, and the one thing I never cheap out on is the MoBo. You've got to have a solid foundation if you want to build a nice house and this is no different. Foxconn was never a brand I considered to be high quality, but it's even farther down on my list now.

    I'd make the argument that bling is an onomatopoeia. I'm fairly certain that I've seen an old Buggs Bunny cartoon where something shiny, like a diamond, made the sound "bling." If i had to guess, I'd say it's origin comes from old radio show sound effects.

    I have to use IE to access my companies payroll site, so if I want to get paid, I must use IE. It's one thing to vote with your wallet but I am not a martyr.
