What planet did I wake up on today? Republicans criticizing the commercialization of low-orbit space flights? Demanding the return of a gigantic, overbudget, behind schedule rocket to nowhere? Obama for the privatization of space and Conservatives for the continuation of a government monopoly on space? Has everyone gone space crazy?!
Written in '81 and released in '83 by Mattel for Intellivision. It was a first-person perspective "action" RPG. It was likely inspired by Rogue, but provided a unique 3D perspective that provided the game with an immersive quality. Opening a door to find a deadly wraith or the dreaded Minotaur was genuinely spooky. Due to the 3D perspective and the quiet, exploratory nature of the game where you look about levels by roaming hallways and opening doors; It was one of the first games to provide me with sweats, shocks and scares. The sound effects really ratcheted up the tension during "turn-based" battles. My brother and I played this game for months and became addicted to "phat" lootz like platinum shields and weapons. We're surprised it's never mentioned during a discussion of "classic" games from the Atari-age.
Should be noted that this regulation doesn't apply to sets larger than 58" and the reg about using 1 watt during standby is something that should have been done with all electronics years ago.
I'm curious to see how you think this budget would end up being revenue neutral. Your tax cut handouts would be prohibitively expensive. A flat income-tax rate is a sop to the rich and bilks the middle class. Are you aware that family with 3 kids making less than $26,000 is considered to be below the poverty level? But you'd raise taxes on them? Boy, talk about holding people down. And here I thought you were against "government interference".
Capital gains tax cuts are aimed at the wealthiest Americans, who are able to deduct losses on investments/real estate already. The tort reform proposal is similar to recent Supreme Court cases where states sought to impose limits on awards to victims, and those cases, even with the conservative majority, have sided with the victims.
And finally, where you get the idea of the government making more than the businesses providing the services, besides being indignantly absolute, is flat wrong. In 2005 66% of businesses in the US paid no tax - zero tax, on a collective income of $1.1 trillion dollars (Big Oil I'm looking at you!). Thanks for playing. Oh, and foreign companies operating in the US (who I'm sure you could care less about), 70% paid no taxes in 2004.
PS - if "government lawyers' were actually paying any attention to the wild west Wall Street we wouldn't be in this mess. They would've blown the whistle on the mortgage backed securities / credit default swap shadow market that nearly consumed the entire financial system. So I really don't think the average guy/gal out there trying to innovate and make some cash is facing an 800-lb gorilla lawyer who is trying to keep them down.
"A 2005 study showed that a gamma-ray burst originating within 6,500 light years of Earth could be enough to strip away the ozone layer and cause a mass extinction."
The system in question is 8,000 light years away. So it's all good.
Besides, we all know Uranus gets hit first...
From tfa: "The reason why Firefox 2 wasn't affected was that Fx2 was not a Cocoa app"
So writing this from a native perspective introduced new APIs found in tech notes you should have read in the first place before writing and running into performance issues?
I've hear that Hungarian wines are actually quite good due to recently enacted standards for quality. Lots of mom and pop vineyards are the only ones who can measure up and the result is uniformally good wines. New Zealand supposedly has something similar too.
The outer rim of Uranus also has a smell. It's described variously as a musky, pungent, zesty enterprise, with a splash of sulfur, that causes dizziness and nausea.
I read the new Verizon service agreement. They're allowed to terminate your cell contract if you use harsh language to a CSR. Also, you agree that any dispute will be mediated by their 3rd party. Meanwhile, the first whiff of an exigent circumstances letter from the government will compel them to illegally (read w/o FISA approval) give over all your information. Sounds fair.
Main Entry: payola
Pronunciation: pA-'O-l&
Function: noun
Etymology: 1pay + -ola (as in Pianola, trademark for a player piano)
: undercover or indirect payment (as to a disc jockey or perhaps a movie studio like Paramount) for a commercial favor (as for promoting a particular recording or for promoting a flagging HD format)
We report, slashdot decides...
After 8 seasons I was hoping for an ending that was little more then a riff on The Lady or the Tiger, with a parsnip of The Godfather all set to a Journey soundtrack. Chase apologists will say this was an artful conclusion to the series, but that only stands so long as there is no Sopranos movie. It's an audacious end to the series, but as with most great TV shows an 8 season burden of developing plots cannot be concluded in 65 minutes with total satisfaction.
Corporate environs should use passphrases. It's easy to hack a poor password, or forget one that incorporates letters and numbers. It's near impossible to hack through a dictionary attack, and they are easier to remember (often because the phrase is personal in nature). Windows supports passphrases already too. Go ahead and hack "Imaseasicksailoronashipofnoise", doubt you'll be able.
They've got enough production problems with a simple blue laser diode. A twin photon contraption capable of reading and writing in multiple wavelengths, put into mass production? Never. We'll see Lucas direct Chapters 7-9 before this comes to fruition.
For the life of me I can't figure out, beyond the usual hoopla of paying people time-and-a-half, why we don't vote over the weekend instead of on a freaking Tuesday. We originally went with Tuesday because, and I'm not kidding, it took people a day by "horse'n'buggy" to get to the nearest polling station. Why not hold the election over a weekend? It gives plenty of time for everyone to vote and would increase voter turnout.
So really, why tuesday and why only one day? Having an extra day sure could help out with sitations such as this one. Having knowledgable poll workers would help too.
When has Sony ever been about choices? I used to play Star Wars Galaxies, but not anymore. Why? They completely trashed the game w/o asking the community (in addition to having lousy support). The Sony Rootkit debacle wasn't a choice either. So it doesn't surprise me that Sony is going to leverage their only "name" brand, PlayStation, and use it to prop up their Blue-Ray format.
My point dealt soley with price. It's true you can get a cheaper X-Box 360, but it doesn't have HDMI outputs or the 20GB HDD.
As for who might use the included Blue-Ray player, my brother, who is not prone to fanboyism, used his PS2 for games and movies for the longest time. He still might. He has indicated to me that, even at $599.99, he'd buy a PS3 because it would give him a next-gen console and next-gen DVD player for marginally more than an HD-DVD player.
So, $399.99 for a new 360 with HDMI output (needed for the ubershizzle HD-DVD) plus another, what, $199.99 for the HD-DVD player? Wow, comes to the same price as a PS3 - only that's an all-in-one system with complete compatability with both PS1 and PS2 games.
If Sony takes a beating over that price point, then it's only fair to batter MS for arriving at the same price.
Oh, and if that snazzy HD-DVD player costs more than $199.99, then it's game over man.
"ISPs have the tools and funds to expand their already overtaxed networks"
It's well documented that the ISPs such as Verizon have already collected $200 billion dollars in surcharges to expand their networks. Can anyone show how their current network is overtaxed? Do we see story after story about people complaining about dropped DSL connections? No we don't. Anyone laying a beef with Comcast over horrible download speeds? Nope. Dropping little phrases words like "overtaxed" only pre-shapes this discussion. Until I see some proof of bottlenecked capacity, I just don't believe this crap. They've had more than enough money to expand their services and capacities. They don't want to expand; they want to p0w3n the 'net so they can be the troll that controls which bridges we're allowed to cross / access. Don't like it? Take the long way around the 'net and say hello to my cousin Mr. Laggg. It's all "fuck you pay me" with these giant telcos.

"I'm not conceited enough to think my idea is genius; I just assume that I'm not knowledgeable enough to see what I'm missing."
You used 4 I's and a my in a sentence where you're not supposed to be conceited. I think irony has been invented friend.

10% of Britney Spears or the Aguilera Monster is fine with me, although 5% would be better.
