In My Experience. You can be Fat, You can be Ugly, But you can't be poor.
Most of us have heard/read that women gravitate towards men who are successful naturally. It increases the odds that offspring will be successful as well.
Microsoft "vista" is fat it is ugly.. it's slow and unintelligent. but it's very rich.
Well, I work here I am affected by this threat of minimum wage. Bleh.
I can tell you the problem is this. They don't want to preserve or change the current system. "sure continued changes COULD be done to the old one.. but why?"
They NEED a new one. The old one has served its purpose. Now take the payroll program and multiply by 100. That is how many of these programs and problems we have out there. I have a 15 year old sign program. It's sole purpose is to manipulate those fancy signs you see on the freeway. "slow down.. amber alert etc" This program was created by a student who left a few years later. Of course said student took the source with him and we've been stuck for 13 years making this dos program work on the varying versions of windows.
Now a program can be purchased for 30K "per district x12" that would let us control these older sign controllers as well as the new signs.
We can't buy it. It is never a priority to replace an OLD program that still sort of functions. In fact it's usually at the bottom of the needs/wants list. yet the state spends 2million to put CMS's "changeable message signs" every half mile in a fog area.
This is roughly the same problem the controller runs into. He can use the old system. It doesn't matter who the controller is, When Davis tried to do the same thing the problem existed then. The system was not created for making these type of payroll changes. We don't hire cobol programmers. Heck we really don't have anyone coding programs any more. It's all web-dev and off the shelf applications. Guess what? We're in a hiring freeze as well. So it's not like we could hire anyone to do it anyways!
So if you want to work for free and offer your expertise we do allow that. But if you want to keep all the source then no-thanks!
It's kinda off topic, But when you mentioned dealing only with cash. The lady i bought my PS3 from "excellent deal btw" had sold some clothes to another Lady on Craigslist and it was a fairly low amount like 60.00. The lady paid her in cash.
She goes to store and tries to spend it only to find out it was fake/counterfeit. I gave her a Money Order but she was there when I purchased it so she knew what she was getting.
Craigslist is just a bit more prone to this kind of crap than other venues but it's no better or worse than some. "with popularity comes notoriety"
As for the personals. Half the "decent????haha" looking hookers in Fresno use it for connections.
I recently sold some software on Ebay. This is something I rarely do but it was the place to get the most money.
Between ebay and paypal I paid 16.00 for 165.00 transaction. It roughly went half and half. Around 8.00 just to paypal. The percentage kills me. I still occasionally buy from ebay but I'll probably never sell there again.
If they took google I might. I don't have an issue giving ebay their fees. But in the day of electronic instant transactions sending money should be almost free.
The only other options are MO or Check. No thanks.
I Gather you think the government actually uses your dollars as they should. Obviously they are doing so well with what we are giving them now./sarcasm
Don't get me wrong I pay avg bill of 350.00 a mo to PGE. I'd love to pay less. But nothing government ran ever works at anything but creating more government and costs that skyrocket.
I work for state government and it's horrid. They make up silly rules just to provide a job for someone.
A for instance, Rule: We must buy at least 35% of our supplies/parts etc from Small Business and 25% from disabled vets. OK.. that is terrific. Except some administrative type comes along and says: We're going to do 100% or I'm going to be very unhappy. "with a mean leer"
So now we have a job a single person was doing that now takes the manpower of six people.
We cannot go to the lowest priced place and buy product because if it's available at 2x the cost at Sally's Product and she's a Disabled woman vet. You can f'in bet where we are going to buy it.
If government was ran like a business I'd be all for them having control over utilities. Right now You'd get your power 80% of the time at a cost of double what you pay. But it would ALL be justified on some piece of paper in case you wanted to look.
The HD in HD radio does not stand for High Definition.
"According to iBiquity, the name "HD Radio" is simply iBiquity's brand for its digital radio technology,[6] and does not stand for "Hybrid Digital" or "High Definition" such as HDTV does."
All those good things you mentioned and not a word about it's ability to play divx, Xvid and WM* H264 and a variety of other formats. This alone makes what I paid for my ps3. "which wasn't much as I got it used" Makes it the most valuable box in my Living room. I mostly hate SONY but as far as capabilities this system is really good. Hook it up to gigabit and let it stream.
I have the wii and it's a great family box, Both it and the PS3 are hooked up to my HDTV. I lean towards the ps3 for my gaming and the kids will play both. However I'm still a PC gamer and prefer mouse/keyboard over everything else.
Hah, I have a counter to that. My Dad who also loves sports. Typically watches them on a 27inch tv in his Den. He recently went to my bro-in-laws house where I had installed a HDTV.
He was sitting there watching a Lakers game. My bro-in-law walked in and said hey, I think we get that in HD. So he switched it over and my Dad has said at least 10x since then... My next TV will be one of those that just looks awesome.
I told him I'd be glad to come install it when he does.
Sounds like your dad might benefit from some time sitting in front of HD. Sports to me is one of the most significantly changed by HD. I don't watch sports but they do look great in HD.
As for topical conversation. I have a 50" between dvd and blu-ray It's noticeable for me and I'm only capable of 1080i. Much of that is because the resolution of the movie is higher than DVD up-conversion can be made to do. Granted though my dvd's look better too on the blu-ray and HD-dvd boxes.
I've explained HD vs dvd this way. In H. Potter chamber of secrets in the scene where he fights the basilisk. If you can't see how many zits HP has on his face under the makeup then HD would let you.
I compared up-converted against HD and the difference in the scene I am talking about is very noticeable. So does it affect how I watch movies? Yes to the point that I always seek a better version now over standard. But I still watch standard with no serious complaints.
Well having dealt with many a dealership in my time. I can tell you they aren't putting the master mechanic on your oil change. They are putting the owners son who works there part time. Having your oil changed by a dealership is fine if it makes you warm and comfy. Some kid might notice something wrong but he's not going to know enough to do anything about it. It's a crapshoot if he passes it up the line or finishes the oil change and sends it on it's way.
I use a Quick Lube typically. But I do my own under hood check when they are done. Of course as I've performed around 40,000 oil changes myself I do have some insight into it.
As for the topic. I have a couple friends who purchased Macbooks last November They came with 2 gigs of memory each. I was asked if I could upgrade them and we looked a bit for memory. 400.00 for 4 gigs of "ahem approved" memory. I found 4 gigs for 96.00 It was even a decent brand. Installed it and they couldn't be happier. As I'm one of those FNCG who also does it for a living. I found the mac's easy to work on and well thought out.
I have in the last year spent around 100 hours with mac's on and off with a prior experience of zero. I'm currently my IT Departments Mac professional.. haha! "thankfully we've a user or two who's been around them a LONG time."
All in all I like the mac's I've worked with. I don't think I could own one as I build my own stuff. Still wouldn't mind having one for work.
You might be loosing your mind.. or you could be loosing the dogs of war.
You could also be losing your mind.
Until I visited Slashdot I never knew so many people spelled LOSE wrong.
Simple, If the leash is too loose, you may lose your dog. Yes, I'm a loser.
I have spoken with many of my friends about this over the years. I started railing against ISP's and Providers of content since 1997.
They will not be happy until all the users have is a remote control for the internet.
I understand it's not free to provide content. However when I got on the net in 96 I could click a link to download file.. and lo and behold it started downloading.
Now I have to read at least 2 pages of ad's before I finally can find the link on the page to get the file. "thankfully adblock plus and other filters help me block the crap"
How many pages have video now that you have to watch an ad etc just to view them. "how much better is this for the provider than TV.. they can FORCE YOU to watch crapvertisements in order to see anything!"
Lets not forget that Usenet is a protocol. There's a whole crapload of providers for it and unless Verizon is willing to block a protocol they did absolutely NIL to prevent access to groups.
I searched the thread. No where in TFA or in this thread do I see mention of other Providers.
Especially the ones who advertise ACCESS TO GROUPS UNCENSORED USENET JUST 14.95 A MONTH.
Or any of the others.. giganews/newshosting/ and 100 others I'm not remembering.
I can upload/download anything I want to a subscription based provider and Verizon isn't going to filter a damn thing."without some DPI going on" I'm only using their pipe. Not their newsgroups.
So nice idea guys.. but unless you block the PROTOCOL you haven't done a damn thing. Shall we shut down WWW/FTP/NNTP ?
The problem is we have pedo's.. help them, cure them if it's possible. "Change the LAW to allow them to get help without being reported for asking for help!"
Quit grandstanding and chest beating just to look like a hero.
Perhaps we need a 15 day waiting period with a federal background check just to register a Domain.
Ohh yea it's international. Perhaps a international ID card or something similar to register a domain and make sure you aren't a terrorist. I forgot to mention it'll protect the children from the horrors of phishing.
Bleh.
Perhaps Mcafee ought to worry about finding rootkits and virii and not about how domains are registered. Ohh yes and please quit using 75% of my resources to idle your icon in my tray. "i'm kidding.. but it does eat up a lot if you let it on-access scan"
I see dead people..
Sixth Sense great movie it's about this kid who sees ghosts and the doctor who's trying to help him. Well it turns out the doc is dead too.
Hope I didn't spoil it for you.
Now I'll preface this by saying first and foremost. I paid 325.00 for my PS3 with 7 games and 3 controllers. I did not pay Sony directly. I'm pretty much like most of Slashdot and I am typically disgusted by Sony. However as you can see below it's a nice machine. I have dvd9 disks burnt with BDMV format and they work. "and look excellent on 1080i/720p" I have it running Linux. Yellowdog or Ubuntu either one work good. "as far as my limited Linux experience goes.. hehe" I have it streaming WMV, XVID and DIVX it will stream mpeg4 or H.264 too "from inside the ps3 OS not from Linux!" Not that Linux cannot.. I'm just stupid in Linux... I can add a larger drive. A rumor says I can rip a bd-dvd using the DD command but I don't really have a big drive to work with just yet. It's had two updates since i owned it and so far both seem to work great.
However for the price I paid I have blu-ray support. Streaming video over gigabit. Lots and LOTS of high def support including the fact it's a great upconverter.
I also own a HD-DVD. Sadly... It's a nice player and I own a few disks. But as a format it's dead:(
So I'm not a SONY fanboy but as far as systems go it's a hell of a nice package. For what I paid it's friggin outstanding. "gotta love Craigslist!"
Well You stole some of my thunder... But I was thinking you could put it in a laptop with dual processors and call it the Shazbot Nano-Nano. Unfortunately.. Most of the people who remember Mork and Mindy are in their 30's or 40's now.
You mentioned it in your Summary. I have to ask did you go to the site and login or did you only see the available selection for new subscribers?
The last time I was a member there "3-4 years ago" The majority of the books were past the login screen. Not where new subs would see them.
I was a member on and off of SFBC for 12 years. I can't recall ever missing a book in a series from them. One of their benefits was they'd take a lot of trilogy's and move them into a single book. This saved on publishing cost I'm sure. I've read/purchased around 100 books from them. I have since moved to reading almost exclusively ebooks. Fortunately my parents and I share at least some of my likes with books. I am never without something to read.
It uses Hyper Sonic sound if memory serves. There was a big hoopla a few years back about it being the next big thing. Our Navy uses it for close ship to ship communication because it can't be hacked or seen like lights.
If you are in front of it you hear it.. if you aren't you don't. So aiming it at someone in a torpedo like device and making them puke is fairly easy by sending sound waves they literally can't stomach. I'm still waiting for the tech to hit home.. but there are some videos of it in action "the sound devices not the sick stick"

Hmm I have a hardcover of that somewhere. Now I gotta read it again. Thanks!

Yes, It could be the 100m BASH... since you mentioned bludgeoning I assumed I'd help out :-]
It always seemed a bit odd to me we send something a few million? miles to soil itself. I can soil myself and never leave my chair.
