  1. Re:$400 a month? on Switching To Solar Power — Six Months Later · · Score: 1

Let me chime in, I assume you do not live in California.
Here's how my power is charged.
Where my mom and dad live the 200% rate MAXES at 15c a kwh.

    Electric Charges $255.11
    Baseline Quantity 405.90000 Kwh
    @ Baseline Usage 405.90000 Kwh $0.11550
    @ 101-130% of Baseline 121.77000 Kwh $0.13131
    @ 131-200% of Baseline 284.13000 Kwh $0.24725
    @ 201-300% of Baseline 344.20000 Kwh $0.35443
    Net Charges $255.11

Note this doesn't include the $45.00 in gas that I used which is on the same bill for me.

In California it seems to me it'd take less time depending on how much solar costs to get your money back. I do live in a sunny area.

To put the costs a bit more in perspective this house is brand new and 1800 sq ft 2 story. I keep heat at 64-66 and 62 at night.
the kwh cost here is outrageous.

I read a few years back that Asus had 1 per 10 boards fail, Abit 4 in 10 and MSI was 3... this has been a long time ago but a lot of boards do fail.

Of all of them I've had more Asus in 12 years than anything else and I've had 2 failures.

I've had abits that were just too much work to keep running. However I once gave an Abit to my sister that was overclocked 300mhz and it ran a long while and probably would still be running today. I finally changed it out after 4 years.

I'm currently running a rock solid gigabyte 945 ds3 with a 1.86ghz oc'd to 3ghz. Solid caps good bios options. However the last gigabyte before it I wouldn't have used for an anchor. It was horrid. "so much for being a contest winner meh"

Of all the boards I've used I've tried MSI 2 times and I may use them again since it's been 5 years. But previous ones never worked right for me. I do demand a lot from a board and overclocking is the norm for me. I'm not extreme but I do like a good boost.

I also think it's probably going to be good for certain types of shopping. Certainly Street view "google" and Bird's eye "from ms" has made it easier for me to learn my new neighborhoods and to locate businesses that are in those industrial type areas.

I believe it's all a matter of depth as well. Probably one of my biggest bitches with net shopping are shitty photos and lack of size relation. It's hard to picture in your mind the size of something in a 4inch photo. Let me see how it sits next to X type item or device. Let me re-arrange or take photo A to photo B and automatically place it how it would be placed if I bought both. All these things VR may be able to do.

So yes current web shopping is ok and quick for most things. But I think VR could help a lot of items.

If I go to a recycler here in Fresno with much more than half a bag they are going to ask me where I work or where I got the wire. They even call employers to ensure the employees have permission to sell the wire. They generally have quit taking wire from people with shopping carts...

We have lost in this area just "Fresno" around 14 miles of wire in a very short period of time. And to quantify this even further that is ONLY the wire ran by the state. This does not include city or county lighting losses. We've had the same intersections robbed 4-5 times. Yes we have police watching them but they can only do so much.

Now something else to consider. These idiots who are stealing this wire are taking it from energized signals. We have battery backups and LED lights in our signals however that means nothing when you can't get a signal from the backup to the light pole because the wire is gone. Now we have an extremely dangerous situation. A Dark Signal. No flashing red no lights. No streetlights depending on how much wire is gone. All we need is a fatality to hang some dumbass bum with a murder charge. Not only that the governing entity will probably get a lawsuit for not having a lit intersection. It's a BAD BAD THING(tm)

So to resolve this problem we now buy Aluminum wire. As anyone who has worked with aluminum wire can attest this is not really a good solution electrically. However Fiscally it does work as the thieves are at least less likely to continue cutting an intersection apart once they realize it's not copper.

  15. Re:How Many Movies?!?! on Multiple Upcoming Games, Movies Based On Jordan's Wheel of Time · · Score: 1

Well as I did have mod points for this I still decided to respond..

You are right in that the story seemed to stop for a while. However on the whole I really enjoyed it. I have read the complete series up to book 9 9 times. I basically read the whole series every time a book came out. But the last time so little was done between cleansing saidin and the marrying of Matt, Perrins story line closing somewhat that I did not read them all again. I am anxiously awaiting Brandon Sanderson's take on the final book. I have found him to be a good author.
Overall it is a compelling story with a lot of flubber in the middle.

I've always thought a serial RPG would fit this environment well. A MMORPG would be awesome if people were kept to strict guidelines as to what they could do. "Think Chaotic evil.. Saving Rand's life so he could be sacrificed to the dark one" Or Darkfriend etc. But this is a world that needs to be very structured so that things that did not happen in the book do not happen in the game. " Fain somehow wins at 3 rivers instead of perrin" However allowing fain to win the other smaller victories "turning The Ways to his side"
Anyways I'm always skeptical of anyone touching this work as it's very difficult to get Jordan's perspective into something you can feel while playing it.

I for one even being male would love to be that bitch Nynavae for a round or two haha but then I'd also dig playing Perrin and Matt both. "Rand seems a bit fucked up in the head really.. hehe"

Obviously a Matt gambling mini-game would be in order and all 3 would have high luck scores with matt's being the only random one.

So much could be done. I'd love to see a combination of Fallout 3's landscape made desert for the Aiel waste and Oblivions grown into the Steddings for forests. I know these are the same engine.. duh..
However someone like me who really likes the story and characters will be disappointed I fear. There is just too much going on to make it short and sweet.

Here's hoping they make it a kickass game with no MMORPG as i refuse to pay a subscription to play a game. I might be tempted if this was a good one. I agree that there are too many WoW wannabe's though.

The OOO mod for Oblivion made it a FAR better game than the original Oblivion. As for modding others I've played various ones since the original TF. However games designed with modding in mind take the proverbial cake. Oblivion, Morrowind, The Quake series to some extent. These folks all provided tools for the user to crack open their stuff and get at it and even patched some games to make the mods work better "desert combat comes to mind for Battlefield 1942" Sims2 and Sims1 comes to mind for user created content that went WAY beyond what the devs ever hoped you'd be able to do "not tools were included yet people made their own animations and scripted actions". People have made some quite funny hacks. One of my Fav mods was action quake 2 and then Action half-life. I believe the devs split from counter-strike way back when. I never liked CS as much as I'm not really a team oriented player.

People in Fresno knew the lights would catch them and basically stopped running it. You can't make money if no one breaks the law. Better a few jump through a yellowed/red and get caught by regular police than no one ever doing it.
