If they want to give me incentive to view a movie in a theater all they have to do is charge normal prices for everything. I'll pay the 8.00 to see a movie. I will not pay 25.00 for 2 cokes and a bucket of popcorn.

    bleh.

The last two movies I seen in a theater were Chipmunks and Superman returns. One of those was paid for me.

Beyond that. The 3d stuff they have at sea-world, Disneyland etc is absolutely top-notch. I'd possibly go see one with the caveat that i'd sneak popcorn and soda's in my wifes purse.

I use the no-no word "starts with USE ends with NET" and I could start now and get 16mbit and in a few minutes it'd drop to 8.. and it will ride 8mbit the rest of the day."yes.. I've tested this.." An upgrade to 2mbit upload would tickle the crap out of me and make it nicer to serve something other than smaller files between my family and friends. I've said it on here before. As much as I hate their support. The speeds from Comcast have been outstanding for me. I know not everyone has the same experience as me.. but I'm certain not every area is oversold and overused either. Unfortunately as these things go.. Comcast starts somewhere else.. and upgrades here MUCH MUCH MUCH later.

Of the points made here. I'll toss in my 2 pence.

One of the things that seems to be missing from ID is the ability to make a truly immersive game. There's little doubt at least in my mind they certainly know how to make awesome environments. "Note that as soon as you shine a light on an item in Doom 3 it does light up nicely and looks good."

What I think is that John is one hell of an engine developer and he's putting in his 2 pence as well. He may not be 100% correct but in the past he's been fairly accurate with some of his predictions "who's perfect?" and he'll likely be validated in some of this. As another user mentioned, When I drop a bomb on a building or blow it up internally that sucker better fall. This is what we've come to expect. Destructible environments, moving objects "I love plinking tin cans in HL2's engine" natural physics and the list goes on. However all of that must give way to the actual gameplay. All that glitters is not gold etc.

Crysis is friggin badass looking but it's limited in depth. Call of duty 4 mixed with crysis engine would have me in fits. "don't get me wrong COD4 is good just not quite as good as others graphically"

Carmack has the ability to do the environment but they seem to be resting on their laurels as far as game making goes. "ooo dark scary environment with random jumping demons/robots/aliens blah.."

I played quake 4 for 2-3 hours.. and haven't went back. It held no surprises or new things to explore.

I really hope to see a mix of the new technologies that make it easier for the storyteller to give us a great game.

Well I'll put it this way in 1999 on dialup I was probably doing 2gb a month. I was on 24/7 and always had irc or usenet always doing something. So it's not even 1999 I had unlimited connections back then and I expect to have it now.

Part of the problem stems from them not building infrastructure to support people like me who are heavy users. Right now my daughter who is 10 probably uses more than a gig a month. She watches videos all the time. My generation which is in it's 40's may not be taking advantage of instant delivery. I can damn sure bet you the kids coming up are and they will continue to expect it without being raped on the pricing. "personally I'm more of a 90-100gb user"

We've already spent 200b to have the backbone upgraded. It's time to see something for what we spent. I believe we need a place for geeks to get together and submit stories with factual information to new outlets until they start making it mainstream. How politicians would scatter if light was shed upon their practices. When is the last time you watched the nightly news and a discussion about how the government took the people for any amount of money was shown? I think 200b would raise some eyebrows. Maybe not.

You have sites like ABC which have their shows online and for what it is it's not bad quality. You have netflix streaming movies, Apple TV coming up "Divx part2 wtf?"
Youtube and many many others all providing much more content everyday. And TW and Comcast believe they can CAP this. How will these sites survive? There are not enough FIOS users to provide a revenue stream for youtube. Ad-blocking is something I have done since 1997 or so and it was a noticeable improvement on dialup. Adblocking to reduce your amount downloaded will become more rampant as every damn site you go to now has flash this and flash that and there ain't no f'in way that flash takes up less space than those ol jpg banners.

Ahh well that's my .02 probably worth less than that though.

I have used IE7 at work but out of 24 IT people I am the only one with it and we cannot upgrade until a BUNCH of backend stuff is upgraded. My friend across town did the same thing. I was very tempted to get more than one and I know some people buy them strictly to resale. I have read on a few forums that I visit of people getting 4-5 a day just to sell.

I have nothing against it. But my point is. If you want one you can probably get it by finding the deal sites that have extensive memberships and looking for wii availability. Someone in the chain of supply always KNOW where the wii's are.

Maybe i'm missing a point or two here. But it seems to me in order for anyone including the RIAA to define the content of Usenet they would have to decode the binary "and probably have to have a special reader for text" messages. UUencode YENC and MIME seem to be the major encoding types and seeing as the servers store purely code in an unidentifiable format there is no way they could actually SEE what is posted without downloading it and re-encoding it back to a compiled file. Movies/audio etc are all converted TO ascii and then back.

You cannot watch a stream coming into a usenet server and say it's an MP3 or MPEG or AVI If memory serves me. It's possible the subject line would be clear/plain text but more than that is encoding.

Correct me if I am wrong.. I've been using Usenet since 97 but it's been since like 98 since I investigated what made it work.
