What we really need is transparency is pricing for all medical costs. Force manufacturer's to provide their component costs for everything like eqiupment, drugs, and consumables, so that the consumer can see exactly what kind of markup their paying for.
I agree with the spirit behind this idea in that companies should be required to justify costs to prevent price fixing but I'm sorry, this just wouldn't work in the real world. The companies would make the cost breakdowns nearly impossible to reasonably interpret to hide the $10,000,000 worth of "consultant fees". (For people not familiar with business, a "consultant fee" is the cash that goes into the pockets of the CEOs and their buddies who come and hang out at the office for a few days a year.)
I really don't think we're going to fix problems like this until there's no such thing as greed in society anymore... which isn't going to happen until we achieve a perfect utopia where money is no longer really required anyways.
we here on earth are all alone in the great big dark.
If that's true, it's an awful waste of space.
Not to be disagreeable but saying that it's a "waste of space" implies that space is specifically supposed to be used for something. (Your statement implies that its purpose is to contain life but that's not entirely relevant here.) What you're essentially doing is assigning a meaning to space itself, but "meaning" (not to be confused with cause-and-effect as it so frequently is in philosophical arguments) is a totally human created concept so the "waste of space" argument is unfortunately invalid.
That said, I really, REALLY hope that life is abundant in the universe. I just don't think that much can be said to predict whether or not it is until we get out there and look for it which is exactly what they're doing here.
I propose that, for the simple reason that any male involved in fashion is gay (not a homophobic troll, hear me out!)
*Goes on to imply that men participating in stereotypically feminine activities or caring about their appearance is wrong for no particular reason other than it being "gay" and that having such interests somehow makes men inherently weak.*
I'd bet there was a more personal confrontation, possibly with a superior, and that email was simply seen as a better excuse to get rid of her than the real reason.
My thoughts exactly. I don't see this as a story about someone being fired for using caps lock. I see it as a story about a manager who was too stupid to have a legitimate reason to fire her prepared ahead of time and has cost their company $17k as a result. One of my coworkers was fired several months ago because he didn't have one of the certifications that's required of everyone in my department. He'd never had the certification of course but that hadn't stopped my company from hiring him and letting him work there for a year. But he was *really* fired for getting into a very long, personal argument with our supervisor. Clever managers will always have some excuse stashed away to get rid of anyone if needed. Sounds like this manager wasn't nearly clever enough.
Good! Driving while drunk and driving while texting are both negligent choices. If that choice leads to someone's death, they certainly should be treated equally. If anything driving while texting is worse since your decision making abilities are not hindered by an altered state of mind.
They're trying to compete with Youtube?... Compete for what? The privilege of losing $1.65 million per day? If the MPAA was smart they would help The Pirate Bay set this up!
I see so many articles about ISPs hiking up their rates or beginning to use bandwidth caps but what I want to know is why?
Yes, a customer who downloads 300 GB a month is more expensive than someone who doesn't but that sort of customer behavior is something that all service businesses have to deal with. I work in the webserver management department of my company. For a flat monthly rate, we will fix, upgrade, secure, and do whatever other odd jobs you want to your server. Some customers make fifty (stupid) requests per month and take up tons of our time but they get billed the same amount as the customers who only make one or two requests. But at the end of the month, both customers are getting the same level of service. How did my company figure out how to reasonably deal with this sort of overuse and underuse behavior while large ISPs can't?
Another problem I have with raising rates and imposing limits is the lack of justification. The only thing I've ever heard is "It's those evil pirates! They're making your bills go up!" Yeah, right. There was a time when illegal media downloading was pretty much the only kind of media downloading that existed but now we have Netflix and iTunes and a whole slew of completely legitimate streaming sites. So let's say I do pay $150/month for unlimited bandwidth. Where is my $150 going? I'm sure there is an answer to this and I would be much more willing to pay it as long as it doesn't include "into the pocket of our CEO". Anyone have a link to an article (preferably written by an unbiased third party) that would explain this?
If you don't like the idea of the police finger printing you or taking a DNA sample when you've done absolutely nothing wrong then I suggest you put on a nice big smile for your next license photo. Because that's what this is, the government taking a facial fingerprint of you.
Which brings me to my next concern... are they going to try to make me take off my tinfoil hat for the picture too???
If I learned anything in high school, it's that in this country "education" no longer means the process of learning. Instead, school has become a daycare for parents to send their kids to until their old enough to move out. I may not be in the majority but I learned very little from actual classes and tests. I received my own computer at the age of 15 and taught myself about hardware and how to program, neither of which my school offered any classes about beyond keyboarding. Now I'm 24 and a senior systems administrator for a large dedicated server management company... thanks to our country's educational system? I think not.
Parents aren't going to give up their free daycare so if I support any educational plan, it's going to be one that involves getting kids who want to learn out of the classroom and into environments where they can use their time more productively.
I'd like to personally thank you for consistently specifying "type-2 diabetes". As a type-1 diabetic who has had it since I was six years old, I hate hearing constant generalizations about just "diabetes" and how people who get it are all overweight. Some even go as far as to say that they deserve it. I'm now 22, 6'4" and 175 lbs and people seriously look at at me funny when I say I have diabetes simply because they don't understand the difference between type-1 and type-2. I've even had people comment along the lines of "Wow, you must have lost a lot of weight." Thank you for not perpetuating this ignorance.
Huh... so they're making computers crossbow-proof now... I can't help but wonder, are they *TRYING* to make it easier for the robots when they decide to revolt or are people just stupid???
I, for one, have already chuckled when I heard the word "nubbin."
O'Malley: Where's the mouse on this thing?
Doc: It has one of those little red rubber dot thingies on the keyboard. That's way better than a mouse. I call it the nubbin. Who wants to touch my nubbin?
I was wondering if you could clarify some of your instructions for me. First, I couldn't find a "Mininova" store anywhere. They're not listed in the phone book and I've never seen one around town. But I don't think that's really a problem anymore since I managed to find a tracker anyways. The breeder says he's really good at it too since he's a purebred basset hound. But now I'm stuck. The dog didn't come with any files and he doesn't seem to understand my requests for him to fetch one for me. Did I get a bad tracker? Should I try to RMA it? Also I think I might not have the most recent version of the internet... is that why my tracker doesn't know what to do? Any help would be appreciated.
I would just like everyone to know that I'm NOT going to take over the United States. Please rest assured that you have nothing to worry about despite the fact that I'm clearly in the perfect position to do so even though I have no supporters, military, or finances. And please, no matter how many times you all welcome me as your new overload, I don't feel I'm properly qualified for such a position.
Right, I get hit by my own irony stick.
Don't think of it as getting hit by your own irony stick... think of it as getting hit by your own "we we".

I've frequently wondered the same thing but I assume they mean base 10 since they're clearly more evil than hard drive manufacturers.
Step 1. Don't post the story about what happened to you on Slashdot.
Yeah... not a homophobic troll at all.

If by "support" you mean "dismember and ground up," then yes.

Don't worry, they have a venom for that.

In a couple of decades we'll be looking at these pictures and laughing ourselves silly at the description 'portable'.
Did you see that thing??? I'm ALREADY laughing myself silly when they say that thing is portable. I must be very ahead of the times...
