  3. Re:But some artists suck. on Support Grows For Blanket Music Licensing · · Score: 1

Precisely my thoughts, why should they all get a fair share if only some of them are actually having their music downloaded as a certain percentage of all music downloaded.

Of course even if they were to somehow track which artists songs were downloaded and distribute based on percentages of total downloads, you'd have some clever artist or fan set up some scripts to download millions of their songs over and over and somehow make it look like actual users downloaded them then you have a whole different issue.

I think they should just keep doing what they're doing now, sans the attempts to extract money from people for getting free music. Some people will still buy CD's and still buy online music, and others will still pirate. It won't get them more money, but it won't likely get them much less money anytime soon.

I'm running Gnome just fine on my eee 701 with 512 MB of RAM. I don't usually keep more than a few windows open but there's really no need to. To be honest even though xfce looks and feels a lot like Gnome, there's just enough different in that I'm so used to Gnome i couldn't justify using xfce in this one case just for what appeared to be an unnoticable performance gain.

I think it really shows that there really are different kinds of users out there. There's those like us who prefer a cleaner desktop and some sense of organization, perhaps sometimes almost to the point of OCD (i can't stand having a filled trash bin for instance).

However a lot of the people I interact with, some are technical type users, others aren't so much, who have their desktops littered with icons almost filling the entire wallpaper. Granted I can understand that sometimes even in chaos there is some semblance of organization because these people know that when they're looking for a particular thing on their desktop they know its always going to be generally in the same place each time.

My only concern with this new stuff is whether or not they'll make it just as easy to clean stuff up and organize it as they did to make it all cluttered up.

I tend to agree, however I do think that somehow the Xbox line has been able to stand on its own, if only because the Dreamcast failed and left an empty spot open in the market as an alternative to Playstation. Of course I guess even there they borrowed a lot of the ideas from existing consoles, and the original console itself was really just a trimmed up and specialized PC. That said love it or hate it Xbox live did manage to bring online gaming to the console.
