I also think they should bring Family Guy on Sunday's and drop King of the Hill! (I personally don't like King of the Hill... it just seems so dry compared to Family Guy and Futurama.)
Burnable DVDs, at least the present kind, don't store as much as movie DVDs (4.7 GB vs over 6 GB). Perhaps there is a technical reason for this, but I wouldn't discount the influence of the MPAA.
That's because the DVD burners out on the consumer market can only burn single layer, whereas majority of the movies on DVDs out right now are pressed on dual layer.
I think I'm correct about that one.
Btw, I know there are single layers, double sided single layer, single sided dual layer, double sided dual layer DVDs. I have a couple movies that are double sided single layer (The Usual Suspects where one side is wide screen and the other 4:3 format). I was wondering if there were actually double sided dual layer movies being released. It could seem a hassle though... No label and get prints on it easier. Just wondering. (Yeah, I know it's OT).:)
I'd probably spend my day's on google instead of imdb.com doing this:)
When I was "working", I was so bored out of my mind, I'd hang out at imdb and see how many movies can I jump through between two possible actors/crewmembers.
Yeah, I sure was productive:)
That's a good idea though, I'd like to see someone do that.
And since it was in Wipeout XL, I thought Red Bull was this badass futuristic drink (which I could never find at the time.) Now it seems like Red Bull has this cheesey marketing campaign where it "gives you wings". Heh, yeah, I think it's silly. Especially where I first heard about the drink.
Recent games I see ads (I'm not too sure about ads) was FHM, Eyewire, (and a few more I can't recall off the top of my head) in Metal Gear Solid 2.
It's been mentioned that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 has Jeeb and Nokia adverts.
And I remember playing a few more games on PS with ads, but I can't remember where.
I wonder if Wine or lindows would efficiently run on this now. The idea of perhaps running Bleem or some other emulators on the PS 2 would be great. Perhaps a dreamcast emulator evuantally. The hardware is there. Just need someone with lots of free time.
Dude, that's so cool. My PS2 that would eventually run Linux, which in turn runs Wine, which could probably run the some DC emulator in the works, and that can run the snes9x port about a year ago!
Finally, I'll have a good controller to play Final Fantasy VI! (Instead of this cheapo MS USB gamepad I bought for snes9x.)
I'm not too sure about video editing. I think they still use Avids and the G3/G4 for those. (We use Media100 on a G4 here.)
Though, for compositing and effects, they use a bunch of Discreet products.
inferno, flame, flint... a whole bunch of compositing and special effects software. (discreet also has edit--for video editing--but I'm not too sure if that's on sgi machines.)
As for the price. I think inferno goes for a quarter of a million. And it goes down from there.
What do they do? Here's some info. It ranges of what kind of medium its on. (Like film, HD, etc) And the kind of effects it does (like Commotion, able to mask out complex scenes in real time... even plots the 2D image into a 3D enviroment for depth of field.) It keeps on going... but I'm not an ad.
Where do they use this? I visted a bunch of post houses here in Santa Monica and LA. Yeah, I'm pretty damn sure they can afford a bit more than After Effects:)
Best of all, since no method for copying DVD games exists (well, not for under $5,000) it's not like piracy will be the issue.
Last time I checked my local Fry's, I found a Pioneer DVD-R for around $500. Price of DVD recording has dropped drastically and continued to drop.
I'm not too familiar how MS handled how to lock their DVD-ROM games, but if it's anything like Sony's DVD-ROMs, then it only takes time to crack it.
Of course, prices of DVD-R drives will eventually go down, and the cycle will repeat itself.
One thing I wonder about the emulator. Would it be possible to somehow create a DVD image off of an XBOX game, store it on your computer, then have the emu read off of that image...
I guess it only takes time, eh?

MGS2 made me buy a PS2. (And today I'm picking up Final Fantasy X.)
But it went something like this. I went over to Best Buy to buy a 9V battery for my guitar tuner. When I walked in, I remembered that the Xbox has been released... and so was MGS2.
After playing some Xbox game (can't remember, but it sure wasn't Halo), I didn't like the feeling of the large controller... walked back down the aisle to get my battery... and the entire PS2 shelve was lined with MGS2.
And I walked out with an MGS2... and a PS2... oh yeah, and my 9V battery.
And ArtX were made from former SGI employees who also worked on the original Project Reality machine... the Nintendo64.
I forgot why ATi picked ArtX up though. I don't know if it was their technology, or ArtX was going to go down the tubes due to lack of funding... I dunno.
I actually picked it up yesterday right before class.
The guy at Software Etc was still unpacking the boxes.
I'll confess, I never bought a single PC game in my life. And after playing the tests, I was already sold. (I remember playing Wolf3D, becoming unbelievably sick not more than 10 minutes.)
I had a shoddy G400 Marvel (for games? yeah right.) I went out and bought an MX400 card just for Wolf. (But I wish I had some kind of GF3... 'cause the game is simply stunning.)
So the game itself. The single player and multi-player are literally two different games. If you've played the test, and though mp_beach was huge... yeah right. I think that's the smallest map in the game.
I'm finishing up mission 2 for the single player mode. I don't know what to compare it against since I haven't played the likes of Half-Life or any other story based FPS.
I think it's too awesome though.
Sorry for being vague... but those who have played other FPS and RtCW... could you enlighten me if this 1 player story mode is ground breaking?
Seems like it to me. (Oh, I have played GoldenEye and Perfect Dark on console... but I can't compare it... since the control on the computer is so much easier.)
Over the next few years, there are significant prospects for strong displays of Leonid meteors in mid-November. Prediction of Leonid activity has had a rather chequered history,
not helped by the events in 1998, but a new theory is able to explain the historical events and should thus be able to make sound predictions for the near future.
It was just three years, but could someone refresh my memory. What happened in November of 1998? Thanks:)
That blank information is stored in the ATIP... Absolute Time In Pre-Groove. And there's a nifty little program that can pull information from the ATIP.
Try Qwest. A sales rep from there kept bugging me about Covad was going down (I'm with Covad on their business DSL... SDSL to be exact) and I asked Qwest about their policy with static IPs.
For a one time fee of 50 bucks, I can get a block of five. (That's the same deal I made with Covad.) Now that Covad is defiantly going bunkrupt, I better call Qwest tomorrow:)
BTW... that wasn't the only reason I'm moving over to Qwest... Covad doesn't offer 512/512 and dropped me from 768/768 down to 384/384 because they say that Pacbell re-routed the phonelines... now I'm even further from the CO:(
I haven't tried their power supplies yet, but I will soon. I have my eyes on their 450W ULTRA-QUIET. I did manage to buy a few of their Silencer fans. They do wonders in my full tower:)
I agree!
I also think they should bring Family Guy on Sunday's and drop King of the Hill! (I personally don't like King of the Hill... it just seems so dry compared to Family Guy and Futurama.)

How else are they to improve model a few year's ago?

Time to get FFX
No way to strategy guides!
;)
:)
Every time I buy a game from some store, they alawys offer if I want to buy the strategy.
Most recently it was MGS2. Reading a guide during your first time through game takes all the fun away.
Especially with RPGs...
When it comes to stratguides and RPGs, might as well just buy the strat and not the game and just read through the whole thing
Oh, and if I ever do get stuck, gamefaqs normally has the answer
You know what's even worst?
:)
Rock, paper, scissors
Exactly.

I'm always liked the idea of the solared power flashlight... too bad that'll never take off.
I ran a similiar setup (Matrox Marvel G400 w/ 16MB) with test1 and test2.
And when I turned all the effects off (using 800x600), I got around 30fps.
Since then, I bought an MX400. I still get 30~40fps... but I turn everything back on
I actually picked it up yesterday right before class.

Aren't the core codenames supposed to be named after horses?
Nevermind, I'm stupid. I looked further down the page and I found my answer. Doh!

Do you mean 10,000 meters and a bomber at 30,000 feet or is that also supposed to be meters?
Hollywood has the tendency to shoot outside of the US (Australia for movies, Canada for a lot of commercials) because it's cheaper.
For one, they don't have to deal with the expensive unions (for production/grunt work) in the US.
I think the other is insurance. Insurance is cheaper for locations.
I knew that DJ's didn't pick the songs.
:)
Otherwise, I'm sure that the radio wouldn't alway sound like crap
...Also, when DJ's patter during the song, isn't that more commercial playtime instead of having them patter during looped beats?

Anyone out there know of power supplies with quiet fans? CPU fans that are extra smooth?
