What ever happened to the classic drinking contest? Sure you dont learn something useful like you would in a soldering contest but at least at the end all the girls look significantly hotter.
I was looking at buying an Eee as a laptop i could just carry with me all the time and not care too much about it breaking. but since the Eee laptops are approaching the cost of Dell and HP's low end laptop pricing iv reconsidered buying one.
Since pretty much no one streams there own hd media currently (aka they run there own streaming station since this cap only effects uploads not downloads) this isnt really a big deal. If HD streaming were to become common place im pretty sure these caps would be lifted (because gasp Japanese companies listen to there customers)
Outside of quality control issues for the console itself (the RROD) i dont really understand how you could call it the xbotch 360. The controller the 360 comes with is arguably one of the best controllers ever made and there is a very large amount of quality games on the console.
Raising the price a little will put it at the same price as the Xbox 360 Arcade Edition. By doing this Nintendo loses one of its biggest marketing advantages of it being cheaper. I also believe you vastly underestimate how angry people would get by a price hike since a majority of people will look at is as price gouging.
The fact that it is purchased does not mean that it is not a rental. You own the disc but you are renting the data on the disc. In reality all your paying for with your $5 is the physical disc and a license to use the material on the disc for 48 hours. It sucks but unfortunately this is the way the courts (in America) are going to see it.
I Agree with your assessment, the touch display will be the third major input device. Touch still has a way to go (mostly price wise) before it reaches the end consumer as a household product. As you stated touch already has a big presence in the commercial world (and i expect that the touch screen will continue to make large advances in that area). This particular demo by microsoft seemed to lean towards the consumer when in reality this is a feature they will more heavily market toward (and be most useful to) commercial organizations.
I doubt that the turn-around time will increase that much, what will increase will be the cost of the machines (which is how i suspect they will stop people from making customizations to the base models by jacking up the cost of the parts that are not "standard")
Yes it is, you just have to convert the files to something that VLC can play (which you could not do before this hack was found).
3 cheers for not being locked to the super crappy powerDVD software anymore.
If it doesnt keep people out then what is the point in having the device??? They are not a fad in a business environment. If you are carrying around sensitive company documents you WANT to be as secure as possible since the company could be held liable if they are stolen.
My real question is why do these devices not encrypt the files on the flash drive with a key based off of the fingerprint? That would actually give the device some sort of real security instead of the crap easy to bypass security these devices in question have.
Anon doesnt have an issue with the religious views of the church. They have an issue with the church itself which is why in one of there recent videos they talk about the "Free Zone" (People who follow the beliefs of the religion but are not affiliated with Scientology) which they have no issues with.
Congrats on making it to 10 million. Like them or not they have done something that no other file sharing site/service has ever been able to do. 10 million is a huge accomplishment in the uphill legal environment that they have faced.
It is common now for people to have gone through five to six Xbox 360s over the past two years. And people who have had to have their console replaced ten or more times is not rare.
I wouldent call it "common" for people to have gone through 5 or 6 xbox 360's. I dont know a single person who owns a xbox 360 that has had it replaced 5 or 6 times. The RROD is a problem but saying 5-6 replacements is common is a bit of a stretch.
Id love to see a Linux client for this service. Especially if it could be built into a MythTV box (and there selection was a bit better). It would be awesome to have a large selection of movies that i could watch without even putting down the remote.
Removing the watermark should not be that hard to do (since warez groups already do this with DVD-Screeners). The real question would be why would anyone want to do this? Warez groups can obtain higher quality rips directly from the CD and the watermark will most likely not hinder playback on music devices. As long as they dont include my SSN or Credit Card Number in the watermark itself there will not be any real need to remove the watermark.
Doesnt surprise me that Microsoft doesnt want a competitor on the same machine in an Emerging market. I am really curious about this "high quality windows experience" though.....
Why do you think this would upset early adopters? I didn't see too many pissed off when they added the HDMI port and 2 free games. "Early adopters" have had their consoles for a couple of years now. So i dont see this being a repeat of the Apple IPhone fiasco..
A few governments will know where this code is used at in vista sp1 (microsoft does allow select country's to view the source). Not only do we have to worry about the US government using a backdoor we have to worry about anyone who has there hands on the source using it as well.

Screw Oregon trail, they just need to get blizzard to release a striped down third world version of WOW and the problem will take care of it self.

Myspace?? What your really should fear is all the WoW raids that will now take place on the freeway....
Independent usenet providers are often vastly superior to ISP provided usenet anyway(unless they outsource).

Ummm how is BD+ less harsh than just plain AACS (the only thing HD-DVD was capable of doing)??

idk, the internet is just a series of tubes and its useful (sometimes).

Screw the new songs, fixing the dolby pro logic track should be at the top of the agenda.
