Very true, These franchises will sell no matter how bad the actual game is or how great the competition. But how well the ps3 will sell costing $500 and just using the Playstation brand? Besides a great Franchise brand, a big installed base helps a lot.

One could argue that the industry should indeed force down the consumers throats the new formats, using HDCP to reduce piracy, but since it's so weak, there's no point.

I think the best argument is, considering HD is already widely accepted, and people are just looking for a definition on the war, that the bigger(and supposely cheaper to make) format win, beacuse size apparently matters.

I vote for a boycott to HD-DVD and Blu-ray in favor of EVDs.

I'm a big playstation fan, and I have a couple dozen friends who are also into it, and when I told then the ps3 whould cost $600, 5 of them said they didn't care and whould get one at lauch, 12 said they'd wait for MGS4 launch to get theirs and the rest said they would wait for a $100 price drop. Although this is hardly a scientific method, I think this is an example of what sony is aiming for: Milk the fanatics, then drop the price and take the rest.

I have found 8 cell phones in the last couple years in taxis.
