I know...Why doesn't SONY create a contest and provide development kits. A series of tasks must be performed by the game/presentation in which features of the PS3 are showcased. Think DEMO scene on a PS3. I am pretty sure that some people will push it to the limits. Otherwise, you would wait, as development catches up with console technology. Unfortunately, this occurs right around the time that a newer console is about to be released.
Heck I remember when pre office 97 you could add a page break on the header (or footer) of a page. Preview the document and watch the page # increase until you ran out of memory and Word crashed. One of the first things I checked, to see if it was corrected, when I got a hold of office 97. LOL.
Dont forget HDCP(HIGH DEFINITION CONTENT PROTECTION)(DRM'd) I refuse to buy these bad design implementations on principal. But its only a matter of time before someone come up with a filter for HDCP, so until then....
Not sure...The issue died down after a while and no one seemed to come up with a follow through. I agree that the Grid is poorly designed (Implemented?) I can only hope that those in power to make a change can think up of ways to avoid this from happening in the future.
Reminds me of the five 9's (99.999%) of reliability that MS used to describe windows 2000 platforms. We all know that after several patches, an east coast blackout, and some other un anticipated snafu's windows was nowhere near as reliable as the media frenzy made it out to be.
Im keeping my 2 cents for something else.
I second that statement. What our friends in asia managed to do, was to come up with quality control measures that made the production lines produce more reliable components. The rest is... History.
I hate to sound like a prick...But maybe the thought of prison sex put him over the edge. After seing Enron:The smartest men in the room; I can't feel sorry for his passing. He has caused many people grief. Karma, it seems, always has the last say.
I for one like the Idea for moving onto Linux. But quite possibly other users may start to realize that running 2000 and NT4 may be viable alternatives, provided the drivers for all their hardware is available on these platforms. I for one would still be running NT (dodges a flying tomato) if they would have gotten around to releasing SP7. But M$ needed a new cash cow forcing the installed base to move onto 2000. Also, with 2K,NT,9X the security schemes are weak at best, which allows you to run multiple machines without having to face the wrath of Bill.
The wrong question. The correct question is how much money is being spent on games per month. With MMORPG there is usually a monthly fee assesed which, even if people are not spending the money on additional games, they are still spending the money on playing the game. So even though the game market claims to loose because of the one time purchase...I argue that the TCO is higher for these types of games. Plus, others may argue that once you put down a MMORPG the replay value drops down to zero. Forcing people to want to purchase an additional game.

Oh yeah....What about what happened to Family Guy...And when it came back it mocked fox on the intro of the first episode of the new season...By making a remark to the effect that if all these wonderful shows get canned maybe we have a shot. The joke is that all the shows mentioned where shows that fox aired and cancelled.
Reminds me of the 5 nines of reliability when the 2000 flavors of windows were released (99.999% Reliable). I am surprised that none at the MS shop has learned from that lesson. Considering how many breaches 2000 has had.
Hmmm. Seems that we are reverting to how things were back when many of us used a BBS. Email people within that system. Use the resources of that system effectively (chat, ftp, forums, etc) QoS depended on how lean the Operator managed his system. If this is an indication of things to come, I guess I will be a SysOp.
Well, thats one of the reasons I love the IBM TP's. I once had to service two machines which went bad withing days of each other. Because of the service contract that was purchased with the units, I received a 3 day turn around on the laptops. Another day to restore the images and Patch and my people where up un running in less than a week. Now, the shop I work in has to buy GSA contract Dell's. Its like going from playing with matchbox to playing with plamobile. It doesn't feel right.
Another issue that no one else has addressed is the IBM Bays. I become the envy of my shop when I can mount a defective (or infected drive) on my bay. They have to scarble to mount the drives into enclosures, etc... Another cool setup I use, is that I have the os on the and data on the drivebay caddy. I boot from the caddy. Since Laptop theft is high, I advise people to simply remove the caddy when they are separated from their laptops. If theft occurs. They have the caddy with the primary drive.

I agree that repairing units with the technology could be a PITA. I can think of imaging software which will make the restoration process a problem. Much like the way XP bitches when you change significant portions of your computers hardware. Lastly, if the OS is not designed to take advantages of these things they will be pretty useless.
I particularly like the feature for searches like Spyware. Where the preview for the Lavasoft site having a tab for a Christmas Special. XMAS...For crying out load occured 4 months ago. If this is any indication to the type of info the binoculars will provide its useless. Especially when the content has been take down because of its subject matter (Think Warez, or content which may otherwise be questionable)
I hate it when companies develop games and then expect you to follow some recipe in order to play them. Makes it seem like game developer houses are treating us like deterministic automatons. As long as the play doesn't disrupt the servers I think anything else is fair game. Even Bots, Games would be so much more entertaining if you could freely write bots for them. Then the game becomes building a better bot.
That wouldn't happen to be Schroedingers cat?

The paragaraph that starts with "Just...". I guess some people had their head burried in the sand when the events unfolded.

I could have really used one for the MTA strike back in Dec'05.

I tell you....Its like reading the FIA's recommendations for the formulas (under which construction and operation of the formula 1 cars must operate). see http://www.fia.com/resources/documents/1603301296_ _2006_F1_TECHNICAL_REGULATIONS.pdf

Just an observation...
The screen shots depicted could just as easily been taken from any of the soft por title shown on Cinemax these days. Just my thoughts

LOL. Searched Slashdot. The two previews have posts from November and February. Close, but still, no cigar.
