    Energy storage is not impractical and the cost depends on the circumstances. Nuclear is expensive too. You have to do the math. Preconceived notions are a bad idea.

    Dear USA,
    high taxes on gas cause reduced consumption via more efficient cars and less driving. That leads to less pollution and less money for the a-holes of the world.

    Yup. In every hard drive design, write current is disabled hard as soon as one of the supply voltage comparators trips.
    Emergency retract is absolutely required because if the heads land on the smooth platters, chances are very high that the drive is dead due to stiction. I don't know if any design still has textured landing zones; my suspicion is that everybody uses ramp loading these days to keep the heads off the surface.

    Amen. I wish I had mod points.
    SUVs were and are the vehicles that make the highest profits for the manufacturers, most being primitive truck chassis with a trimmed-up cabin. Combine with a primitive inefficient engine whose design cost was recouped twenty years ago and you have the modern SUV. A polished turd indeed. A gas guzzler with bad performance and bad handling but of course the American consumer will take it if you spend enough on advertising.

    Ah, a Heisenbug. Been there, done that. They are fun in SW too. Any interesting bug will disappear as soon as you run under a debugger. All the really cool bugs only show up only when the system runs natively.

    SR also doesn't need any deeper math. It's only GR where things get difficult. I think basic SR is very doable at the high school level.
