Oh, no! Please don't let the stock market fall! Anything but that! It'll be a tragedy for all the people who've bought non-dividend paying stock at prices far higher than they're worth!

American citizen here, unemployed and uninsured. Bring it! I will bring the popcorn.
Its not that bad yet, but you can't see trends then. Don't feel bad a lot of people don't see that "for your pretection" bus heading for them until it smashes them flat.
The Chinese are just one upping the west and I can see the west about to catch up. Have you ever heard of court ordered sensitivity training?
Where the hell else would I broadcast my ignorance than Slashdot. Now get off my lawn.
AV companies may scare their retail customers, but the corporate client versions are mostly silent. Funny they never expire either if they are installed unmanaged. My antivirus hasn't asked for anything for over 8 years.
Tell grandma she's a corporation now and not to worry.
Would you like it if your desktop sound effects were far louder than your gaming volume, so every time an alert popped up it scared the hell out of you?
It did until I found the media folder and edited all windows sound file's volumes down by %80. The R2D2 like squawks from windows are now tolerable and I can still hear everything else just fine.
incremental improvement over my car radio today, which is smart enough to raise and lower the volume based on my current speed
It's probably been done wrong unless it has a knee at some speed, increase the volume to legal speed and decreasing above. Driving at 100mph or more I find the radio is best turned off or set to low volume classical music. An alarm that says "too fucking fast" or "have you finished those funeral arrangements yet?" would be better.
Older cars worked quite well with just mechanical controls
The pre '74 models had mechanical points, carburetors, and choke adjustments that changed with the seasons. It took me years to forget pumping the gas pedal on cold days. Older cars required tinkering at regular intervals to keep them running well. Computerized cars run for many years with almost no adjustments.
The engine management systems should never get "confused", thats just bad design.
The owner of our company enjoyed a little porn and said we just had to share. There was a folder on the server where we put it for him. We developed software and trying to filter us all would have been a real waste of resources. I would have to do installs at jails and prosecutor's offices, sometimes they had the freaky stuff.
but a black hole the mass of a galactic cluster actually has a very low average density. So while at the event horizon space-time is very much distorted, on the inside it may not be distorted enough to overcome common everyday forces (the trick of treating a collection of mass as a point source of force doesnt work from inside that collection of mass)
Now my brain hurts, could we already be inside an enormous black hole?
I would say only 10% of all gamers are of the slashdot variety, most are not. Quit calling out to gamers to show solidarity and discipline, monkeys would be easier to train. As a group they cannot think much past their next fix and the game companies know this. Most of the gamers I know are lucky if they graduated high school and can walk upright without scraping their knuckles.
Your rack mount server will end up in a rack somewhere where it may not be pulled out for another five years. There may not be a "second chance" to fix it if you rush through building it - it becomes someone else's problem, perhaps, but they won't be thanking you for it.
After a year in service I found a pair of pliers under a motherboard, the server worked most of the time thanks to the insulation on the handles. Managers love speed they think it equals productivity.
.....Countries aren't poor because they are poor, they are poor because they have bad institutions and governments.
Greed is the real problem! Bill Gates is the worst person on the planet for fixing greed and corruption. I for one would like him to give back all the profits he stole from small companies and go play with his trust fund. Stupid egotistical twit!
Horizontal polarization: try making all your antennas horizontal. Depending on the reflections around the room's interior it could work.
Funny when I said Bill Gates was a greedy turd a few months ago I was modded troll! http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1530320&cid=30958424 Now where's my refund?

When you can't tell if your a douchebag type boss, its best to make sure your underlings aren't well armed.
If your wife doesn't have any naked pictures of herself, would she like to buy some?
they seem to *want* people to download shows or watch them through another medium.
They're just trying maximize ad revenue and please advertisers. The viewers are just CHUM to attract the big fish. Ok, so it's not a car metaphor.
Yeah, I can't wait to worship the next Bill Gates of biofuel instead.
Advertising agencies actually believe somebody wants to see ads, and they want to find these two people anyway they can.

There's three or four hard drive power connectors just a couple of inches away. Was he blind too? What an accomplishment.
...the article has very little of that information, and the summary has none of it.
The first rule of Slashdot.
How much is it? I'll gladly pay for all my media viewing to never watch a commercial again.

I am usually proud to be american, but when we get our head up our ass its really up there.

I have relatives going deaf with age, watching TV with them is not fun. TV volumes set at a level wear I have to wear ear protection.
I gave grandma an fm radio transmitter and attached it to the tv, she sits next to her own reciever and I don't get blasted anymore.
