People like to blame video games because it's a lot easier than addressing the root causes of youth violence, lousy upbringing probably being the chief one. Until we see otherwise happy, well-adjusted kids from stable families turning into murderous zombies because they played GTA, there are better uses for our preventive efforts. I agree. I'm a gamer myself and I really don't have any violent urges. I'd go one step further and say it's the media and Jack Thompson who like to blame videogames. It's no doubt pointed out as well that there is not conclusive proof that videogames cause violence to appear magically. We certainly had violence long before TV, videogames, and movies.

Do you think that every kid (or even most) who plays Counterstrike is thinking, "man, it would be so great to go machine gun my school...ah, but I really shouldn't." I'm not saying they all do. You're misinterpreting my point. Once again it's the minority of these kids that lack the self control and discipline and that's exactly why we see it on the news. It's not just counterstrike that's violent. How many stories on the news have you heard about kids getting paralyzed/injured or worse because they tried to recreate their favorite wrestlers move after seeing it on TV or doing it in a videogame.

I don't think most people have any desire to act out violently in real life. If a kid comes from a lousy background, or has rotten parents, then those things may be sufficient to send him down a dangerous path without video games having anything to do with it. I completely agree. Yet videogame's can certainly inspire an idea.

The trick is that the changing medium means you're not usually going to have a direct translation of content. You still have to retain the spirit of the characters and their motivations. X-Men 3 took the idea, flushed it down the toilet, and spit in my face over and over again 100% with you on that The different director really letdown the masses. Granted it had it's moments but overall it was lousy. As for comics into games the one's of late haven't been too bad. They've certainly gotten a bit better over the years. The Spiderman 3: The Movie game is good to a point. The game got less then favorable reviews mainly because it didn't follow the movie plot really at all. I'd agree with gamespot's review 100%. Step sideways not forward when compared to Spiderman 2:The Movie, which by most accounts is pretty awesome. However games like The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction for the gamecube is a superb game.

As for comics into movies I liked all the Spiderman's and the first 2 X-men's were most excellent. The Punisher, Fantastic 4 and Ghostrider were all very good as well. Mainly X-Men 3 and Superman (I won't go into Catwomen or the Hulk) are the most recent attrocities to grace the big screen.

It's about the lack of self control and discipline that causes kids to recreate what they see/do in a videogame. TV is no better then a videogame except for one key detail. The detail being a videogame is far far more interactive. The illusion is more complete. The experience more real.

The kids parents (or their legal guardians w/e) are responsible for those kids. They either need to keep them in line or find assistance from another source to do their job. I know there are lots of great parents out there doing their jobs but their kids aren't the "vocal minority" making waves in the pool. Its the slackers, the drug users, the abusers who end up with dejected kids. And those are the kids I feel sorry for.

I've always been surpised by these kinds of things. How can you deny something that has mountains of evidence that it did in fact happen. We all know the nazi's documented nearly everything. Hence the overwhelming amounts of evidence/proof. Denying that is plain idiocy, not religion. As previously mentioned I think these are exactly the people who need a history lesson.

This is partially stemming from parents not beating their kids. I'm not talking Black & Blue faces and "I fell down the stairs" beatings. I'm talking about a belt to the behind. I'm sure many of you have seen YouTube videos of kids going literally apeshit when told to turn of the XBox and go to bed.

Granted I'm sure there are kids who are decent and fun to play online with. I'm talking about the vast majority though. This crap doesn't just happen online. The online factor is only spreading it to the masses. And souring many of the older generations online enjoyment.

As for WoW and all the rest it would be nice to see some features that allow you a global ignore list so regardless of which character you're playing or the asshat is playing they're still /ignored. GuildWars is one of the only MMOs I know of with a feature like this.

This new generation needs to learn some respect. Without it our future is screwed.
