The computers at my school have limited access. They won't let you install software at all (without jumping through hoops), therefore, alternatives such as Online Messengers and Online Office applications are the only alternatives to using Microsoft Messenger and MSO2K3.
One of the comics I read, F@NBOY$ had its article up at wikipedia, and was deleted by "Wiki Trolls" because it wasn't "notable" enough.
One of the reasons I call BULLSHIT On the issue, is that during said consensus, they took into account site traffic, and once it was proven that the site traffic was actually above the metric, they (they being the "Wiki Trolls") disregarded that and said site traffic is not a metric.
Lets assume for a moment, that they decide to implement in Protocol v6 new ways to track you down. You wouldn't know that, since the protocol is close-sourced, would you?
Thats just one of many possible things that close-sourcing the application would do.
You could try searching for stuff and adding "-ebay" at the end.
The "-" tells Google what to skip, so if you're looking for something in particular, and keep getting spammed with "BUY!" and "EBAY", just type your term, and add "-buy -ebay".
I hate Microsoft too, and their awful I.E., however, I felt the need to point out this.
I.E. 7 comes with plug-in support. There's a few ad blockers out there, though I haven't tested them. There's a ton of plug-ins on the Microsoft Live page.
I worked on a Call Center for Sprint, before it merged into Sprint/Nextel. They used the same time of 'brain-washing' during training sessions, to make us believe that Sprint was the shiz-nit.
The voice even sounds just like the lady on the training manuals I heard back then.
Though I agree with you on 'not paying the Microsoft Tax', I'm not so sure about bundling 'no OS' (or FreeDos).
Dell is giving Linux a chance to shine to Joe Average. He doesnt know about partitioning or different flavors, or what each do. Dell has to allow Mr. Average to use Linux and know nothing of it.
Most of/. can install Linux on a dead badger, but thats not the point. Its giving Linux a chance to be known outside of/.
I am a freelancer that works around the country. MSN Messenger and Google talk save me money by allowing me to place calls via internet (be it text-based or by voice). Since we're always online, its a quick and easy way for them to notify me of problems, and with Google's "Voice Mail", it lets them keep in touch on weekends, when I'm usually away.
Sorry, I couldn't find the +1, Damn Right moderation.
However, I like the Xbox live online approach (be able to talk with other people) rather than the Nintendo approach (Race against others as if they were super bots that disconnect)
Yeah, but you don't actually know what they're doing, since they ask you to type in the User/Pass and step away from the Laptop.
It still is. I got a call from Dell a while ago asking if I had received my Palmrest (mouse buttons were buggy after a year of (ab)use).
:P
It got kinda annoying considering that I got the palmrest about 2 weeks ago, and it was 8am and I was still asleep

extremely rare to find similarities like this in the universe
Hey! I heard the universe is pretty big...

Finally, I'll leave you with my favorite comic strip, Wikipediatrics
41? I would have payed an extra $1200 just to have UID 42.
I'm sorry sir, but you must provide a link that links to the Dilbert page in order to not violate the patent.
We've attached electronically a link to our bill.

P.S.
Your link leads to nowhere.

I know! Those other silly protocols, like SMTP, IMAP4, MIME, POP3, DNS, NTP, FTP, SIP, SNMP, SSH, telnet, RPC, RTSP, TLS/SSL, SOAP, ... nobody uses 'em much.
I've heard of SMTP, IMAP, MIME and the rest, but whats this Soap you speak of?
I'll go ahead and ruin your joke, but Smolt is already used to keep track on hardware and distros.
Perhaps if we get more distros to adopt the use of Smolt, with a central server, we could *attempt* to keep track of stats, as seen on Fedora Project
Thats actually a great idea!
Step 1: Build Fox River on Second Life
Step 2: Charge for admission into Fox River
Step 3: Profit!
I'm sorry, but the person you're trying to reach isn't available. Please leave a message after the meep. Meep

Yeah, but can you listen to Doom? How about listening to a Beowulf Cluster?
Huge Firefox user here. Love Adblock as well.

My Linux Box is so optimized that this is the fastest I could post!
I thought the last one was Zombie Zebra.
"Somehow the consumer no longer has a voice. "
We still do. We speak in the only language they understand. Money.
Speak with your wallets, not your voice.

Sure, XNA is not on the same level of need basis, but I'd like to do some stuff for the XBLA, and can't unless I install Win XP again...
