I've got my entire music collection stored as FLAC right now on a single half-gig hard drive.
Must be a really small 'entire music collection'. 1/2 of a gig is 512MiB. Average FLAC encoded song I have are anywhere from 8MiB to 25MiB per song.
I hope you meant a half TB. That would make it much bigger... but again, you could still probably have your entire collection stored in WAV. I have about 1,300 songs.. all stored in various formats (MP3, OGG, FLAC) and it's under 10GiB.
Why do people argue over stupid stuff like this? If you like Windows, use it. If you like Linux, use it. Please try to refrain from complaining because it's not the way _you_ like it.
I personally use Linux because I like it. I grew up with the ol' classic Mac. Then Windows. And moved on to Linux about 8 years ago.
I _like_ editing obscure config files. I _like_ using the command line. I also _like_ using a GUI for things like Web browsing, image viewing and video watching.
No disrespect to you, sir. I just feel that yelling and complaining at each other on Slashdot isn't exactly going to make your life better.
As another has mentioned, downloaders beware of the Linksys WRT54G(L). It crumples and dies with nearly any bittorrent connections.
I had this happen with default firmware and DD-WRT. I've recently switched to a DIY solution running m0n0wall. All gigabit and the difference is clear. However, in total I spent nearly $400.
:: is already used for static methods on classes... it would be harder to implement the differentiation of:: for namespaces and:: for static methods... especially if people started to use classes with the same name as a namespace (which is likely if all modules get their own namespace)
I actually think that '\' is appealing for what it will be used for. The one thing I first though of was SomeModule\new_object::test_function();
Wouldn't it try to evaluate the '\n' as a \n new line? I suppose it will be out of the double quite string scope so it could be alright... could get messy if eval()-ing code, though.
(and when you're trying to get the internet working in linux on a dual boot machine, it's hell... you have to reboot to something else, search for answers, reboot to linux, try it, forget what you had to do, reboot...)
Ahh... the good ol' days.
I remember doing that when I was 11 years old, trying to Install Redhat 6.0 on my mom's computer.
Boy have things changed quickly. Now we have LiveCD's (and LiveDVD's) to test hardware with... the most important of all being your network connection... if you have that and, say, lynx (or links/links2) you're pretty much set.
And my first thought when I read it was "I wonder how that compares to Vista and OSX."
Although, it would be for the reason of comparing the difference between an open kernel, closed kernel and semi-open kernel. My thought was: how does it's stance on openness affect the LoC metric?
I feel it would be a totally pointless observation, but would be insightful. Does closed source push stricter coding standards? Or does Open Source? Who knows...?
High-quality? It's been my experience that Apple's hardware is of no higher quality than any other builder's. I can give you a laundry list of busted Macs that I have personal experience with, while my Frankenbox built from off-the-shelf parts that has evolved over the past several years has had exactly zero hardware problems.
Same boat here. My current PC was ~$700 at time of purchase. Antec Sonata III Chassis ASUS M2N-E AMD X2 5200+ 4GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 RAM Seagate 500GB HDD nVidia 8600 GTS Gentoo Linux
I've had zero problems with it.
I bought a Mac mini about a year and a half ago to give OSX a shot. I didn't like it at all... I don't understand what the hype is all about. After about a month of mucking with it I installed Gentoo and gave it to the girlfriend.:-)
I think, maybe, the point was more so the rewards program... but then maybe just skim through what happens if you don't clean up after your pet. Maybe.
Youporn.com has done something right, then. Seeking to the 75% mark of a video (before any buffering) jumps to and loads quite quickly and easily. ;-)
I see Balmer as a living on the edge kind of guy.
Obviously Baidu is the natural choice for him.

I think you're missing the point there, sir.
Linux is not Windows.
Why do we have to be like Windows?
A better question would be:
Why do people argue over stupid stuff like this?

Warning! Offtopic post!
Perhaps take a look into MPD. It has various clients that can connect to it and control it.
I personally use Sonata. It's simple and fits my needs.

Mod parent up!
This software looks great. I've always considered the idea but didn't know where to start.
Looks pretty hackable, too.... I might have to go out and buy some hardware!
I suppose they come rather thick... if thrown hard enough it could do a bit of damage!
Thanks for the insight!
(I'm just kidding... but found it mildly humorous.)
I'm sick of my VirtualBox/WinxP/AnyDVD-HD setup. I'd MUCH rather a native Linux command-line tool to automate the process when inserting the disc. ;-)
Thank you to all developers! Great work!

(I'm not b0ttle - but I thought I'd comment)
I'm well out of school.

No... we celebrate Canada Day on July 1st, though.
Some reading for you.
It is also Thanksgiving up here in Canada.
So I will be raising a glass to the launch of OO.org 3.0, your birthday and giving thanks!
Not to mention, y'know, you'll have to GET UP to change the channel..
Wait! Maybe he's on to something! Couch Potato's no more!
I have CS2 running under WINE 1.1.4 (it's worked since 0.94 or so) as I type this. I have yet to come across any real issues.
Or go on a download binge. :-)
Movies at Tony Hoyle's tonig--- next week!
Pirated music. :-)
There appears to be absolutely no mention of WINE.
I'm sure you've tried it, but just sayin'.
If there is no support, perhaps go do some hacking around yourself? Or use all of those earnings and put a bounty on a Win program to be ported?
I think, maybe, the point was more so the rewards program... but then maybe just skim through what happens if you don't clean up after your pet.
Maybe.
Not even that. It's the prices I am currently paying at the pump.
I've converted the prices to the volume equivalent for the two area's... US Gallons and Imperial Gallons.
The currency is still in Canadian Dollars & cents.
