I tried to upload a video to Vimeo. After the initial upload they _warned_ me that my video was below their guidelines when it came to framerate, which is true. Since my video had no motion in it, just a hundred or so images, I didn't see the issue. Plus they did _not_ say they were rejecting or stopping the rest of the process (whereby they convert the video or whatever they do). Instead they said they were processing it...and the status stayed this week for several weeks (until I gave up checking). I also emailed them about this video and received no response.
Much as I like the quality of Vimeo, this kind of treatment makes me not want to bother trying to upload anything more there.
I came here to post the same thing. Check out "Resonance: Beings Of Frequency". A study mentioned in that documentary said that a simple DECT (cordless) phone placed in a hive was enough to drive away & keep away the bees.
Few people think more than two or three times a year.
I have made an international reputation for myself by
thinking once or twice a week.

Is it any wonder people are biased against someone who continually rocks their world, yet scores so infrequently?
he advocated for nationalizing of banks, gold production, other mining
Acceptable foreign leaders are those who abuse their power (making it easy to get rid of them at any time in the future) and grab a stack of cash for themselves (ditto). All other leaders are advised to update their life insurance policy.
Mandala was too Gandhi-like for U.S. tastes. At least the CIA spinner landed on "time-in-prison" rather than "the-patsy-did-it".
Once released he was an untouchable martyr. Quelle nightmare.
The user you are imagining will upgrade right after their next virus takes down their system. Or after they drop it again. Or when they see a cute black one at Best Buy.
Techies, on the other hand, want speed/power/etc. and won't mindlessly upgrade.
The Plymouth Caravelle was a POS 4-door econobox. But it was new. The Z was old, and no doubt out of alignment, etc. But that is the point: you can't just blindly trust stuff. Even if that porsche was new, _it_ could have been out of alignment, had brakes (or tires) that were screwy, etc. Also, Paul misjudged his business partner. To quote the motto of my alma matter: Tu um est.
Agreed. Bought 3 Lenovo laptops, for home use, in the past 18 months. Versus 1 new desktop (and several used ones from the local recycler). Anecdotal, but mirrors the big picture.
Another factor in favor of laptops these days -- dirt cheap. Well under $300 now, whereas middling desktops at Costco are at least $500 to $600 AND you then need a monitor (that can go from $100 to $1000 depending on your hunger for pixels).
I've driven two cars at or around 100mph on the highway -- a Datsun 240Z and a Plymouth Caravelle. The former I borrowed from a friend for a trip-with-a-girl, the latter I drove as a salesman.
Guess which car was better at 100mph. Nope, the Caravelle...by a mile.
I nudged the Z to 100 (it might have been 90 something...happened 30 years ago and yes my beard is gray) and immediately reduced the speed to 70mph range for the rest of the trip due to the feeling of a car about to be out of control.
The Caravelle, on the other hand, never felt out of its element. I pushed it very hard, on winding roads...no issues. I cruised at 85mph for hours...no issues. I would start it, immediately slam it into gear, and go. Couldn't have asked for more from a car...and I don't like Plym/Chry/Dodg vehicles (for personal ownership).
So, you never know what cars suck at being cars until you drive them. Sounds like this Porsche sucks. And it also sounds like Paul's "friend" wasn't.
A slingshot speeds up a projectile. Planets slingshot space probes, making them travel much faster than propellants alone could accomplish. Do you play catch with a slingshot? In this case, the probe was slowed down by a planet. A reverse slingshot, if anything.
We did something like this until we started buying clumping litter from Costco. Now we hardly go through any kitty litter -- used to go through bags a week of it.
National Geographic, I believe, had an article/piece where someone took pictures of the contents of bird stomachs. Albatross, you name it, they all like to eat plastic, especially colorful plastic. When they laid out all the pieces found in the stomach of birds, it looked like all the weapons a fighter jet can carry.
It is all about the state* being in control of all aspects of your life. You are a number, a cog, a cow...from birth to death. This is just the last act of control by the state.

How ironic that a doctor doesn't want "extraordinary measures". It is like a car mechanic who says "take it to the scrap heap" rather than opting to replace the engine or transmission on his '57 Chevy.
Thanks for the suggestions. When I looked at the links of the ads being served to me, they were to sites already blocked in my hosts file (i.e. if I had ever tried to click on them). The ads are text ads and the text is getting through perhaps because of javascript being on?
Voltaire was not taken out of context. He was used, here, in the wrong context. The Voltaire quote more properly belongs in this thread.

So I guess a HUD pinball game is out?
You want system status? Just press both flippers for 5 seconds.

Desktops are not selling right now because Moore's Law has let us down lately. As soon as the Law is restored, desktop sales will resume.

I imagine Prius and equivalent cars don't have this. Some computer is choosing when, after you push the brake pedal, to actually use the brakes.

At least Americans know the difference between an "injection" and a "slingshot", given that they produce exactly opposite results.

Must be few pet owners on this thread...we re-use all of our plastic bags, no problem!
