OK, that's just weird. I'd not heard of a new penny (much less a gay one) so I googled it. This was the second link. Well above a CNN story about the new money.
Not trying to disagree with you, but could you elaborate a bit?
Nintendo...versed in the ace-ass-pulling.
I do not recall Nintendo ever really needing to pull anything from their butt. They certainly have not held the same market share since the beginning, but then they have always sold well, no?
Oh, come on now. While he may have been kidding, that sounds an awful lot like the 20" laptop Dell is currently offering.
The thing is huge and even has a detachable keyboard. And RAID. Oh, and I just checked... it is $5,593 if you max out the HD, RAM, etc. (hardware only, no additional warranty or whatever)
Found a c|net review on youtube if you've never seen this monster.
I did notice if you click through too quickly (just click on the first linked image that loads without waiting for the page to load), it kicks out an error and dumps you back on the home page...
Every time a story comes up even remotely of even remotely questionable "geeky-ness" or whatever, there are always so many comments: "how is this news?!?!?!" or "WTF OMG, how did this make the front page!!" or better yet, "Slashdot is teh suck now, I can't believe I still read it. Maybe I won't anymore."
PEOPLE! Are you reading the same front page I am? Because the one I see is just a bunch of headlines with short summaries.
Amazingly, they are NOT ALL INTERESTING TO ME!!
And yet, somehow, I'm able to move on to the next story.
Please save the crap flood of whining in the comments for your blog or somewhere (yes I am aware of the ironic nature of this rant, thanks). I really do enjoy the comments as much as the stories though. And I did like this "story". Both myself and my girlfriend work in IT, both have assembled hardware, I've even been paid to do so. Am I not geek enough, or does my opinion count less? Is my UID too high?
If you disagree and wish to flame me, well whatever, just a random rant... at least I didn't post AC.
There have been times when the media have reported on a network called "Internet2." This is misleading since Internet2 is in fact a consortium and not a computer network. "Internet2" is sometimes used, albeit a misnomer, for the Abilene Network.
From what I can see here, It does not look like the Internet2 network reaches as far north as Maine.
Having been born and raised in Maine (living in CA now), this really comes as no surprise to me. There are only about 1.2 million people there, certainly considered the "last mile" by most providers (cell, cable, dsl...)
After that, you should be able to copy just the changes and the new files.
We use software that does exactly that with block level backups to Netapp filers. Taking a wild guess here, I would say they have quite a bit of new data daily on the exchange servers of two large universities.
I run backups for a large web hosting company; this is to say I do this 40 hours a week for thousands of servers around the globe.
We have many clients that mirror backups between East and West coast. They may be connected at each end at that speed, but they are almost assuredly not achieving throughput at that rate.
YMMV, but there are 3000 miles to deal with here. I've never been able to achieve speeds like that, and we have some seriously fat pipes in our data centers.
Truly high gas prices are the only thing that might get the average consumer on this side of the pond to embrace fuel efficient cars that are the norm in Europe.
And honestly, most of that is tax that you guys use for things like, oh, health care for all.... right? Not such a bad trade, IMHO.
I fill my tank for ~ $70 a month (currently $3.45/gal), and I commute 30 miles round trip on workdays. True, there are plenty of people that can afford this (remember, the fee does not include electricity to charge), but this seems to be an elitist car at the moment.
Please wake me when I can help save the environment without declaring bankruptcy.
My old bank (when I lived in Maine) would dispense 5's. I went there one time after it ran out of twenty's and took out $200. A stack of 40 brand new sequential bills and the two round seals on either side were indented into each other.
I happen to think you are probably right, but, did YOU read YOUR sources? Your quote from Wikipedia contains an embedded link. At first I thought you had made a mistake but I looked at the original page.
You know, I always thought about writing to Paul Harvey (if he's still alive) and asking him to do a "And that's the rest of the story" on Linus. That would be some classic stuff. Although most the listeners, probably not even sure what Linux is let alone know its creator Linus, would probably think he's suffering from some form of dementia set on by age...
Just thought you might like to know that Paul Harvey is still very much alive and still broadcasting his The Rest of the Story segments.
And with 22 million listeners a week, I have a feeling a few of them may have heard of Linux - maybe even Linus.;)
I find the Transparent OPUS MM Speaker Cables to be a MUCH better bargain.
I picked up four sets for the house and gave three more as Christmas gifts.

Am I the only one surprised it took so long?

So I take a look at Abilenes website and find this map: http://abilene.internet2.edu/peernetworks/domestic .html

::sigh:: Yes I am sure it is more likely you were quoting Stan Lee (or just yourself).
I kid because I realy don't think it was enough said. Maybe I'm alone here, but I can not picture what you meant.
So you find it easier to kill people than to run computer programs... Remind me not to get on your shit list. :p
My girlfriend is from Poland. She is always confusing me when she starts talking about the LPG cars there.
In the U.S. the word gasoline is virtually never used, everyone calls it gas. We don't really have a word for LPG as it is rarely used.
Happened again just last week when she was telling me about a famous Polish actress that converted her large truck to LPG and was laughed at.

The website is down (slashdotted?) Do you know where I can submit a ticket?
Coolest thing I ever saw at an ATM.
The link is to a totally unrelated page http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/jel/doddict/data/f/02 109.html titled fixed station patrol.
I even looked at the page revision history to see if someone had screwed with it; nope.
So, basically your source is a one sentence anonymous quote. Pretty ironic I think considering your reason for posting.
