I love how the nintendo fanboys are convinced their mom will use the Wii controller. It won't happen. My wife grew up playing nintendo, and will occasionally play some 360 with us. When I told her about the Wii and showed her the video she wasn't excited, she didn't care one bit.
The truth is non-gamers don't generally avoid games because games are too complicated (even though give that reason). They simply don't have a lot of fun playing games.
Yeah, a heavily crippled version of Linux. Especially considering that half the PS3's memory is useless to Linux thanks to the 16MB/s read speed. See above for the number of people that have a 1080p TV. See WebTV for how well that works otherwise. No one wants to browse the web from their TV. It sucks.

You are confusing means and ends. It provides a form of entertainment as a means to making a profit (the ends). You don't aim for the means, you aim for the ends.

I find it interesting that the slashdot summary talks about how the graphics will be better than at E3, while the gamespot article is titled "Nintendo is not working on a next-generation console" and it emphasizes how it is a lower end graphics console.
I hope that you aren't serious. How can this be modded insightful? Just because a system is 2.5 times more powerful does not mean the graphics are 2.5x as good. In fact just being 2.5 more powerful will have very little difference in graphics. The X360 is something like 25X as powerful as the Xbox, but the graphics are not yet twice as good.
Maybe its just me, but the books in Oblivion were one of those nifty little features that you looked at one time and thought "wow they really care about the little things" and never thought about again.

I for one am looking forward to Age of Conan, finally an online ARPG, where the game is not "click on target, hit 4,2,1,5 repeat" I am not sure if this will be the end all be all of MMOs but at least they are trying something different (and I know on slashdot different is good, if it comes from Nintendo that is).
I can't believe you would laugh at a very serious problem. Video games not only cause school shootings, but often times commit them themselves and simply blame regular children. It is not just violence, Mario has created a booming industry in psychadelic mushrooms, and the lemmings created the great slavery epidemic of 1995.

We all know why no one voted against this bill. They have seen the bans in other states thrown out on first ammendment grounds. They understand this will have no real effect (aside from forcing the game industry to pay some legal bills). They do this because they do not want to be the guy in November with ads running against him saying "John Smith wants kids to kill hookers like they do in the game he supports Grand Theft Auto."
I am sick of legislatures playing lip service to what the lattest fad is. I wish Americans (and I am sure it happens in the rest of the world too) would grow a brain and quit letting rhetoric dictacte their life.
Anyone else notice that the creator of SSB basically says the Wii controller sucks for games like this? I am glad I am not the only one who is not sold on this controller as the be all, end all of game development. However, if it turns out that most games are better without the 'chucks, how would Nintendo fan boys justify spending another 200 bucks on a system that is no better than the gamecube they already have?

I predict the average Wii controller will last 13 days before falling apart from: 1)Upset gamers throwing it against the wall, 2) old people trying to use it as a remote, getting upset and shaking it, 3) being left out and stepped on.
Why is this damage worse on the wii controller? Because it has a motion sensor which requires sensitivity.
