  2. BTW on U.S. Army Robots Break Asimov's First Law · · Score: 1

I'm not saying that the Three Laws are perfect, or the best way to approach robotics. In Asimov's novels people ended up creating 4-law robots, and a no-law robot(Caliban). But I think that they have become "accepted" because they are a good starting point for robotics that don't harm humans, and they can work. My main point was however, not to pitty patty someone just because they're not a qualified expert.

  3. Why does he have to be a roboticist? on U.S. Army Robots Break Asimov's First Law · · Score: 2, Insightful

The Three laws aren't accepted purely because everyone's a big Asimov geek, but because they make sense and they work. He doesn't need to be a robotics expert, Asimov was a very intelligent man and had some marvellous ideas. Ideas come from all kinds of places, not just white-coats. If it wasn't for Star Trek, a lot of real world advanced physics would probably be years behind what we have now.

  4. I prefer real CDs anyway. on Is the Physical CD Still A Viable Market? · · Score: 1

It's nice to have a solid representation of something you own. With the digital age I don't fully trust or "feel" the whole situation. It's nice to have something solid.

  5. Um, no. on Is the Physical CD Still A Viable Market? · · Score: 1

PC Games tend to come on DVDs these days, even the fastest broadband would take long enough to download 4.7GB, and that's only going to go up just as fast as higher connection speeds in future. I don't think downloading is a very viable method of online distribution. It takes up far too much bandwidth to be worth it.

  7. Good for European viewers? on In2TV Goes Public · · Score: 1

Here in Ireland/Britian we get shows like Scrubs, Lost, etc. months after you do. This service could become immensely popular with people in Ireland(when we get real broadband in about 20 years time) & Britian and any other English speaking language. This could cause a large negative impact to broadcasting companies like Sky because their shows will already be months outdated. I'd like to see how this pans out. I have no objection to installing Windows Media Player 10 if it stays the hell away from everything else when it's not running, and all this works over the college firewall(another massive user base).

  10. This is absolutely true. on Hyperdrive and Space Propulsion · · Score: 1

People who just laugh this away remind me of the "slippery slope" people for gay marriage. So much of what we already have is through impossible ideas, why do we feel the need to be realist now? How much did our ancestors create in the name and pursuit of magic, gods and the divine, which would be seen as impossible to the scientists of today? It is not necessarily the end product, but the journey that matters. Who knows what we'll create along the way. Many medicines where found while looking for the cure to other diseases. This is no different. Even if we don't acieve Warp Drive, we may find something different that could be just as useful. We understand so little about the universe, it's snobbish, in my opinion, to laugh up wonderous theory.

  13. There is absolutely no way the PS3 is ready yet. on PlayStation 3 Delay Official · · Score: 1

If you've been following it's development there are still tons of issues to work around. If they release before Novemember, they face massive shortages and lackluster launch titles, as well as increased costs. It's going to cost close to $800 per console. I'm guessing it will be sold for $650 with around a 100 dollar loss. Not good, at all.
