It's a pretty stupid idea if the terrorists are going to run around blowing stuff up and taking people's airplanes, but there is no reason that should be the case. Second Life, WoW and other MMO's could very easily be a recruitment tools but not for traditional terrorist training activities. What about cyber terrorism? You get enough of them together and you don't need more than a couple tech savvy individuals to lead the groups, the rest of the mindless automatons just execute the actions/code they're given... That could actually be a pretty nasty terrorist attack if you hit the right areas. You start out trying to cheat in MMO's which, while not a perfect parallel, is pretty good training for trying to circumvent security measures in many programs. If you can cheat successfully in WoW and not get caught by the authorities you should have the basics at least of where to start working on something a little more serious. Don't put your blinders on just because in the past it's been all about explosives... That's almost as dumb as ignoring the warnings about people flying planes into buildings because someone hasn't done it yet.

  5. Well on FTC Says 'Slow Down' on Net Neutrality · · Score: 3, Interesting

I for one welcome this move. Many many problems have been caused by quick to act not very well thought out actions on the part of our government. The FTC said slow down lets make sure we don't fuck this up, that doesn't happen very often these days and should be welcomed with open arms. As a member of the US military I can say I am being directly effected by one of these rushes to judgment, maybe if the morons in the Hill had thought about shit first and made the intelligent rational choice instead of the "patriotic" one we wouldn't be in this mess. Just for the record I'm net neutral by leaning but I understand why they corporations want what they do. Here's the catch though they're very often regional monopolies. I've lived and live in a place where there are one or if you're lucky two broadband providers. If backbone and distribution access was free and open then we wouldn't be having this issue. Time Warner and Verizon etc.. would have already tried this and failed when many of their subscribers moved onto providers that didn't restrict their access.

I'd have to check but I've never had a return the phone clause to deal with on either of the occasions I had to break the contract.

Ok, first let me say that I think this number is probably a little small BUT the two big projects people are throwing around are the Big Dig and the Chunnel.

The Big Dig was done in a highly populated area in some pretty nasty ground... I don't see how it relates in anyway.

The Chunnel is had some severe issues with the quality of the ground they were digging through, it was basically a sponge in many areas. The area under the Bering Sea may be more solid which not only make it a shit load cheaper but faster and easier. Also this tunnel is primarily a goods by truck tunnel. The Chunnel is for trains, goods, and automobile traffic. That means the Chunnel has more tunnels, more complications, and more safety issues to deal with.

People are talking about electricity and oil but there are many other goods that would profit as well, such as crab, timber, and mail order brides.
