Tech A by company A Tech B by company B
Now, suppose both companies use both technologies.
Case 1: A has patented, B has released in the wild. A sues B for tech A. B can't do anything. Case 2: A has patented, B has patented too. A sues B for tech A. B asks them to drop the lawsuit or they'll sue for use of B.
Quite frankly, I've never seen MS abuse any of their patents.
Anything that brings the usability of a console with the flexibility of a PC together is a good thing in my book. An XBox Live system for the PC+XBox would be welcome too.
Unlimited Calling gives you a full year of unlimited calls to anyone, on any phone, within the US and Canada for just $14.95.

But nothing about the fact that Double Dragon is coming to XBox Live Arcade ?
The only thing that would be better than Double Dragon is multiplayer River City Ransom.
There is also a boycott going on since they have effectively eliminated Linux and Mac support for the game and have publicly stated that there will be no version for these platforms. This comes AFTER Linux and Mac gamers kept this game alive and on the shelves LONG after most games have gone the way of the dinosaur.
Eliminated ? The engine was rewritten from scratch, with some game logic kept from the original. They didn't eliminate the support because it wasn't there in the first place. As for the fact that Mac+Linux gamer kept it alive, any sources ? I'd argue that there was still more people playing it on Windows near the end of the lifecycle than there was on OSX/Linux.
The company that manufactured NWN2 CAN support these platforms with MONO + TAO but refuses to (or doesn't realize it can).
Where does Mono come in ? People are confused by the fact that the installer bundles.NET 2.0, but this is strictly for the toolset. The game is written in vanilla C++ with DirectX. While OpenGL support would have been an option when they started development, porting now is not viable from a monetary standpoint. Maybe it is from a 'good will' standpoint, but that's another discussion.
... to my solar tsunami relief fund. Wire your money to my Swiss bank account and I'll see that the money be properly used. I have confidence in Slashdot's readers generosity.
Yeah, the internet is cool. Yadda Yadda. Standalone computers/OSes are a thing of the past and dumb-terminals/browsers/web services are going to kill them. I've heard that back in '95.
At the end of the day I still prefer desktop apps for anything I do even remotely often. Graphics intensive games will always run on the desktop. If PC games get killed in favour of game consoles, then we've just switched to a different kind of desktop. Wake me up when it happens; I suspect I'll be long dead.
Say what you will, hacking (cracking, don't throw a fit) isn't exactly easy nowadays. Can anyone here honestly tell me that they can get me access to a given business's clients database in the next 48 hours ? Didn't think so. So what are the gangs getting out of this ? Are they getting on a hype bandwagon ?
Vista Business and friends are the most likely to be cracked due to volume licensing. However, features are removed in a way that it is advantageous to businesses but turn away most home users.
It'll be interesting to see how that works out.
..., it's a flaw. I'll be impressed if someone can do anything with a 4 bytes heap overflow that happens at a single spot in the program they don'T control. Under ideal circumstances, they'll be able to tamper an integer in WMP.
I was captured at some undisclosed moment by a camera. Someone who looks for me very hard might be able to see that I was in a public area 10 days ago even tough there's no way to search for anyone, very unlikely that they would recognize me, and I could always hide from the truck if I'm really paranoid.
A stalker will stalk you. Not use this.
I'm not usually a Sony doomsday prophet, but if something can kill the PS3, it's this. They need their RPGs. They need Koei and Squeenix. If those juggernauts start to slip away, then Sony is in big, big trouble. Most switches will lean in the 360 direction because of comparable specs and input mechanisms. If the exodus reaches some sort of critical mass, where companies don't believe that the PS3 will sell anymore, that whole situation might end very badly for Sony, and very well for MS and, to a lesser extent, Nintendo.
They're allowed to sell different OSes without retaliation, that was one of the hallmarks of the antithrust case. The reason they don't do it is that they don't want to support it. Yes, the 'recommends XP Professionnal" is, AFAIK, standard marketing.
I would agree for a B., but a M. is different. A masters will most often than not be relatively narrow, so why not narrow toward something you want to do ?
Of course, my advice real advice would be to find a job..
Media DRM on Vista is optional. If you don't like it, don't use it. No, your mp3s won't degrade. And you can copy them as often as you wish.
If you want to spread FUD, at least don't make up EVERYTHING.

Because that's a biased point of view only held by one member of the voting council which has vested interests in the format that lost ?
On the top of my head: EMCAScript, Eiffel. See for yourself.

They know it's your cable modem, your account, and they might or might not know your computer's mac adress.
I don't think the fact that the accusee (has multiple sclerosis/is a single mom/is vegetarian/worships the FSM) is relevent to the discussion.

What is this guy arguing for ? "Our competitors offer a service we don't. We could 'license it', but then they profit from it." Well, duh.
If I had been asked, I would've gone with Ubisoft.

I knew it all along.
