This might be different today. Logitech has now for a few years built their mice with the shoddiest switches possible. I had 3 different logitech mice starting to act up on left click after 3 months and be broken after 6 (and no, i don't play diablo or starcraft)

  2. Re:VR games suffer from two problems on VR Is the Fastest-Growing Skill for Online Freelancers (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

Maybe you are looking for different things in games than others. I am a 40 year old slightly fat dude that is completely jaded on gaming. Callofbattlefieldestiny17 and tryingtoohardtoretroindies left and right leave a sour taste in my mouth whenever i start the steam client.

Enter VR. Suddenly, the control scheme is completely mixed up. Shooting stuff is fun all of a sudden again. (15 years q3 pro here - i am fed up with clicking on things). Shooting at some guy while i fly through the air and slicing him with my cyber katana makes me feel like my 6 year old self when i did the same with plastic swords and squirtguns (minus the 10 meter leaps of course). I love racing. Driving in VR gives me way better spatial awareness, breaking for turns feels the same as in a car vs. "start to brake when this %marker% leaves the screen". I could go on, but i guess you know what i mean.

And then there is the elusive thing called presence. Some games manage to trick my eyes and brain in such a way that the geometry feels like it has substance. The first time i felt it was in Alien Isolation on the DK2. When presence hits me, i can dive in so much that the VR becomes the place i am at. This raises the quality of the experience massively for me.

I fully concur that steam is overloaded with unity asset swaps and samey shit. But being lots of shit there doesn't devalue the handful of extraordinary experiences that are available. Sure, they are rare. Mostly too little content. And even the good ones tend to have many similarities control/mechanism wise. But i see this as the comparison to things like ego shooters: you move the mouse and click on things. In every one of them. As the producers try to get into VR, they will surely discover new mechanisms and maybe even genres. And i am looking forward to that.

Trying to argue/describe VR to someone who never tried it is kinda like trying to explain what LSD is like - you HAVE to experience it. Youtube videos can't do the medium justice in any way.

The moment one feels presence for the first time in VR has silenced each and every skeptic i demoed VR to. But popping VRgin cherries is part of the fun for me :)

Some friend of you is using Facebook. Your contact data is now on Facebook. Someone took pictures at the party you were, too. Posted it on Facebook. Other people might reference you by name in their posts.
So now FB starts to build a shadow profile by connecting all this meta data.

How effective this is i found out by signing up to Facebook. I did VERY late (around 2015 or something) and right after i put in my details Facebook showed me all my real life friends to connect to. It was downright scary.

I guess it's more about how people need to "relearn" how to logoff and stuff, since those functions are "slightly" moved to another place. Office drones tend to know their work pipeline down to the used shortcuts BUT NOTHING ELSE. Shit, they even call support when a warning pops up that reads "click ok to continue" if it's unexpected.

When we upgraded our company to win 10, we knew beforehand and printed out some small poster with new shortcuts, how to do basic operations like logging off or shutting down (now two distinct buttons instead of one!!!). Sad thing we had to do this, but we did ok in the end.

The "press win and type what you want to do" is just a change too big for most of the drones. I still watch them navigate manually to some subfolder to get to something.

i heard this argument before. There are different ways to consume games; competitive, exploratory, as an experience, and so on.... Not all of these methods require better or faster interfaces. Some of them become special _just because_ they are giving real restrictions. I am not a player, but the onward players seem to enjoy that a lot. VR sure has lesser viable game genres at the moment, and therefore for lot's of people VR just isn't their device, like the mouse is for the shooter and a stick is for the fighter.
