I have to say I have always generally been impressed with the/. redesigns and this is no exception. Well done team, thanks again not just for a great site but for continuing to make it look and work better for all the users.
So of course it is not like I have went and read the story or anything;)
But if this is really happen that is very sad, people need to just live and let live. Did the flag really cause the neighbour such a problem. This kinda stuff makes me want to join the police just to tell people to get a grip!
I can understand your frustration at the lack of the on-line order (and I would suggest there should be provisioning as well) system however the reason for this is nothing more than we have more requests for capacity than we could deal with after our launch at the Future of Web Apps expo here in London. We have an on-line ordering system for all of our other products at http://www.xcalibre.co.uk/ and we will have a fully automated on-line ordering and provisioning system for Flexiscale as soon as we can assure the capacity will be there to match the demand. Some what similar to Amazon and their launch;)
If you would like to contact me on the email address in my/. profile I am sure I can answer any further queries you have.
Now first of all big disclaimer, I am the Chief Systems Architect for Flexiscale.
While EC2 might not offer you persistent storage or static IP addresses the product the company I work for sells does and it still has the same per hour billing model of Amazon EC2. Have a look at http://www.flexiscale.com/ for more information.
Ask anyone who has left the IT field to reflect and they will tell you how much their job took over their lives....most jobs do not do that.
Plus you have to understand the type of person who usually heads into this field is usually a geek....this is more than just their jobs and usually the geek life is one that is defined early in school life......maybe we should be looking at this from that angle.
I need more sleep...excuse me:)

Ok, this is not something I would usually care about, however how can this post be modded insightful......amusing maybe but it does not provide any insight.
I know this post is kinda relevant and I am even glad to see it here but has anyone noticed that this is also just using/. to advertise the ebay auction to the target audience?
Yea, so why did you suggest a NetAPP then. This is a comapany that will quite happly say, no, we just cannot support you using this with windows 2003!!! FFS, why not, it is just CIFS we needed to do, but their system could not handle some of the changes. From what I remember it was not too happy with Win2KServer either.
Also when each week they get an email from the system with full stats they did not bother to tell us that the system was dying and the CPU was constantly hitting 100%.......we ditched them and got some dell kit and debian:)
The only problem is that the first pair may be a little painful to ware in however once you have done that they are all good, no probs with metal detectors.
If your mail servers are going down because of the ammount of mail you recieve, spam or otherwise then you need to upgrade your mail servers, simple as that.
You have got to be kidding me...........PAINT ISSUES.
Now the people who are seeing sparks or having major problems with the equipment just not working I can understand however you are having issues with the paint job, this is not a real problem, it just does not look as good as it could.
To be honest as well, while the paint may come off those machines take a lot of pain. I had a friend take his to Iraq when he was on duty and his surivied for the largest part of his time there, no normal pc laptop I know would have taken those conditions.
For those apple users with real issues, good luck, for those with paint issues, I hope apple keeps ignoring you as they should, they have bigger problems to deal with.
I think this one is a no brainer. It is all about the way that people use IM. We had the same discussion at work recently (which sadly meant IM got banned).
IM is only a problem/imterruption/hassle what ever if you let it be. If you let it rule your life then , just like email/cellphone/any new comms method, it will.
This is a nice system and I have been using it for some time with much sucess. However I would not suggest trying to use SSL with it if you have clients with IE6, for some reason or another it does seem to barf.
I currently work at a help desk for a small business isp and all of the above it true and it is a dream to work there
We do have an internal crm solution that was devel'ed in house and it is very sweet, web based and will soon be open sourced.
We have head sets, it is the only way to go, remember to get the type with VERY long cords.
All of the rest of the above is true, however I would ask that you remember one thing. Some customers will complain, it happens, when they get passed to managment make sure you are not going to shout at the staff afterwards, it is most of the time not their fault (if you have done well in selecting the staff it won't be) this will mean that your staff will not be afraid to transfer them through. (not that this happens in my place)
Oh yea, and let them use any system they like as long as they can get their work done, it sounds silly, but I am more efficient with linux than windows because I know it better, same goes with mac users, they are going to do a hell of a lot better with a mac than win.

Nice move guys. Doing this sorta stuff is never fun but at least it is over now...time to party.

...that this is happening, in the country I live in and the scary thing is that everyone here thinks this is just fine and normal.........

It is basically a large metal case, quite hard to destroy and has single inserts for each disc.
I would highly recommend it, I have many friends who use these for when they are doing dj'ing at clubs to take their music collection on the road.
Kind regards

Then again, well done for getting free ads on
I would suggest open sourcing it anyhoo. From this two things will happen,
- Only personal users will use it, oracle is free for them
- People will convert it to the SQL backend of their choice
Either way you will get all of the advantages of opening the code base to the community.
Did you read the story (or get the email) about MS sending that survey to all of the LUG's......they listened!!!

I wonder if they are thinking about then doing a pay per search service for heavy users?
for /F "delims=: tokens=2" %%i in ('route print') DO SET GATEWAY=%%i
route delete 0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 %GATEWAY% METRIC 1
route add 192.168.1.0 MASK 255.255.225.0 %GATEWAY% METRIC 1
Where 192.168.1.0 is the network that you would like to use for the VPN and 255.255.255.0 is the netmask.
Take care
A splashdown.
