I have to say I have always generally been impressed with the /. redesigns and this is no exception. Well done team, thanks again not just for a great site but for continuing to make it look and work better for all the users.

    Hello,

I can understand your frustration at the lack of the on-line order (and I would suggest there should be provisioning as well) system however the reason for this is nothing more than we have more requests for capacity than we could deal with after our launch at the Future of Web Apps expo here in London. We have an on-line ordering system for all of our other products at http://www.xcalibre.co.uk/ and we will have a fully automated on-line ordering and provisioning system for Flexiscale as soon as we can assure the capacity will be there to match the demand. Some what similar to Amazon and their launch ;)

If you would like to contact me on the email address in my /. profile I am sure I can answer any further queries you have.

Now first of all big disclaimer, I am the Chief Systems Architect for Flexiscale.

While EC2 might not offer you persistent storage or static IP addresses the product the company I work for sells does and it still has the same per hour billing model of Amazon EC2. Have a look at http://www.flexiscale.com/ for more information.

I would suggest open sourcing it anyhoo. From this two things will happen,

    - Only personal users will use it, oracle is free for them

    - People will convert it to the SQL backend of their choice

Either way you will get all of the advantages of opening the code base to the community.

FFS, why not, it is just CIFS we needed to do, but their system could not handle some of the changes. From what I remember it was not too happy with Win2KServer either.

Also when each week they get an email from the system with full stats they did not bother to tell us that the system was dying and the CPU was constantly hitting 100%.......we ditched them and got some dell kit and debian :)

Now the people who are seeing sparks or having major problems with the equipment just not working I can understand however you are having issues with the paint job, this is not a real problem, it just does not look as good as it could.

To be honest as well, while the paint may come off those machines take a lot of pain. I had a friend take his to Iraq when he was on duty and his surivied for the largest part of his time there, no normal pc laptop I know would have taken those conditions.

For those apple users with real issues, good luck, for those with paint issues, I hope apple keeps ignoring you as they should, they have bigger problems to deal with.

We do have an internal crm solution that was devel'ed in house and it is very sweet, web based and will soon be open sourced.

We have head sets, it is the only way to go, remember to get the type with VERY long cords.

All of the rest of the above is true, however I would ask that you remember one thing. Some customers will complain, it happens, when they get passed to managment make sure you are not going to shout at the staff afterwards, it is most of the time not their fault (if you have done well in selecting the staff it won't be) this will mean that your staff will not be afraid to transfer them through. (not that this happens in my place)

Oh yea, and let them use any system they like as long as they can get their work done, it sounds silly, but I am more efficient with linux than windows because I know it better, same goes with mac users, they are going to do a hell of a lot better with a mac than win.
