    I lived in Rio de Janeiro for a time and can say this - even if the Brazilians made as much as the average person in the US, they would still pirate things. It is just the way it is down there. I remember when I first moved down there, I asked someone who lived there (but had been to the US a few times) why the restaurants didn't have self-service for getting soda. Her reply was "If you could just help yourself nobody would ever pay for soda. They would just bring their own cup from home and help themselves."

    Commercial CDs are still "written" with a laser on the foil part of the CD. The difference is that commercial CDs are "pressed" - that is they have plastic on both sides of the actual foil part. CD-Rs only have the plastic on one side (the bottom).

    Any politician who gets behind this will not get re-elected. When less than 10% of the population supports something, it is political suicide to try and hitch your wagon to it. This can only weed out the moronic politicians, let them idiots say they support this. Then when it fails, everyone will know who NOT to vote for next time.

    Ok, I'll bite.
    No I use email. I just don't rely on it so heavily that if I don't get them it interrupts my life horribly. It really isn't that hard to do. Millions of people do it everyday...
    And no, I am not on the wrong site. I am very interested in technology, however I am not interested in having it run my life completely. Technology is not a panacea.

    Just remember, when the power grid goes down, the Luddites have the advantage.

    Cost per month - nothing.
    Technical knowledge needed - none.

    "100% uptime" is not the goal. "As close to 100% uptime that is possible (and reasonable)" is the goal.
    And to be technical, 100% uptime isn't impossible, it is improbable. If the server never does actualy fail, then you are getting 100% uptime. Probability of the server failing means nothing unless you are having a quantum mechanics discussion.

    Not an issue anymore considering the price difference to go from 1GB memory to 2GB on a current Dell Optiplex is about $28. But I can certainly believe in the past that getting the add-on graphics card would be cheaper than upgrading the memory.

    Really? When was the last time that US toys imported into China caused Chinese kids to become sick? I must have missed that news.
    What's next then? 15 minute breaks for the 8 year olds working in sweat shops over there? Or maybe free lead-based cookies in the employee break rooms?

    Hint: if you are going to rip the US government, citing the Chinese government probably isn't going to help your case.

    Well, it would only take .2 seconds if the sending server was serving you up packets that fast. Somehow I doubt you would get maximum throughput speed. I know I never hit the full 100 Mb speed of my network when connecting to a server on the net.
