i dont know why this is flagged as flame bait, this guy is correct.

Microsoft censored the words to stop those stupid worms going over everyones msn account, you know those stupid viruses that say, "i found a pic of you at www.somewhere.com/download.php?name=virus" and then some silly teenage girl would go, OMG REALLY and click on it, now she has the virus and its telling all her contacts the name thing.

So how do they put a stop to this, just censor the bloody url so the message wont send.

Some of you guys on slashdot just have got to realise that MOST PEOPLE WHO USES COMPUTERS ARE _NOT_ AS SMART AS YOU! Some wont update there programs, others wont know how to remove the virus and even more will click on stupid links like that.

As i read all these articles on the net and from slashdot that compare Linux to Windows in such a way that Linux's aim is to steal market share from Windows. I also read in forums all the time, "Linux needs the marketshare so that software publishes will release Games/Photoshop etc on Linux then it will destroy microsoft" and i always say, "The aim of Linux WAS NEVER destroy Microsoft Windows market share." I used to always quote GNU from their site that said something like, "to create a completely open source operation system" Note the words open source which is not commerical programs

But now heres proof, right and it should be really noted. Linux was created by the developer for the developer. Its not developed to take out microsoft windows. Linux does not want commerical programs and Linux does not care for market share. There are no shareholders for Linux, no one is crushed if you dont use Linux or if you dont like it. So stop writing reviews that say "Linux will defeat microsoft if it had X and Y" because as a developer or Linux i dont care what you think, as long as it stays good enough to be my desktop OS.

He also says that the focus is on the server platform because big companies are pumping money into it for that very reason. This is then killing the tradition aims of Linux as a hobby operating system developed for the user by the user, its now a hobby OS developed by the user for big business and thus is taking the same lead as microsoft. He has left the development because its now all about the money for the big companies and therefore his work for the desktop has gone unseen or as he puts it in the case of the other kernel developers his desktop work is now redundant. Poor guy. :( /3

My windows users were watching and they were amazed and start asking me to get Linux running on their computers lol

I laughed and handed out some Ubuntu cds i got for free..

  9. Re:Here we go again.... on Microsoft Gives Xandros Users Patent Protection · · Score: 1

LoL i was thinking the same thing!

If Microsoft cannot buy out a Linux distro (They could but it would go against what they stand for), then they just sign em up to a fake patent protection deal which causes all the Linux users to scream "OMG where not gonna use X distro again! There associated with Microsoft!".

Four years later after microsoft has paid millions to sign up with almost every commerical distro; where will Linux stand?

Maybe you guys all have a really good look at why you use Linux. Do you use to enjoy all the great open source applications, do you use because its free, or do you use it to rid yourself from Microsoft?

I can tell you my main reason that i use Linux its because i love open source software, my reason is not to avoid using Microsoft products. So i dont care if they are associated with Microsoft or not.

  10. Correction on Dell Linux Details · · Score: 1

"for the sake of those wanting to (legally) play DVDs, use AVI files, etc.""

I think that line can be misunderstanding. It is not illegal for you under Linux to play DVD's or use AVI, its only illegal to distribute their codecs without a license to do so and we all know licenses cost money. If Ubuntu had to pay for the license then it would probably have to charge for a binary copy of Ubuntu. This is where Linspire comes in with click and run, they paid for the license and so they can give you the CD with the codecs on them.

Although its legal for you to download the codec yourself for your own use. You just cant go making a product and putting their codec on it without a license even if the product is free.
