  5. *NOT* "Free Speech"..... on MySpace Suicide Charges Threaten Free Speech · · Score: 1

Technically, bullying is a form of harassment. I'm not talking about the kind that happens a recess, I'm talking about in public life.

This is the the same thing as if someone was to emotionally torment a handicapped child, or any child for that matter.

Let me see if I get this straight:

    It's ILLEGAL to:

    1) Make a pass at a coworker of the opposite sex,
    2) Say, "You've got some nice tits!" to a female coworker,
    3) Make suggestive actions to a female,
    4) For the military to verbally degrade or insult known terrorists,
    5) Create a public disturbance (e.g. screaming through a bullhorn at 4am)
    5) Say negative things about muslims (Brigitte Bardot is on trial in France for that),
and a hate crime to say negative things about any minority or "Protected Class" (the fact that some people are protected while others aren't is bullshit to begin with).

But it is LEGAL FREE SPEECH to:

    1) Harass an individual, with full conscious and knowledgable intent of causing emotional distress to them, to the point that they become mentally infirm and commit suicide.

This is the type of "Double Speak" that liberal extremists practice. If "MySpace Suicide Charges Threaten Free Speech", then so do laws prohibiting:

    1) Yelling "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater,
    2) Making bogus 911 calls,
    3) Telling people to kill the President/Senator/Mayor/Governemnt official,
    4) Telling people to kill any member of the public,
    5) Giving false information to police,
    6) Lying in court,
    7) Anything negative degrading to a child, spouse, or individual ("Verbal Assault", "Verbal Harrasement", "Sexual Harassment")
    8) Lying on legal documents,
    9) Lying on tax returns,
    10) Lying to a bank,
    ll) Commiting slander,
    12) Committing libel,
    13) Committing consipracy
    14) Document forgery
    15) or any other kind of deception with the intent to cause physical, financial, mental, or emotional harm.

This is the kind of "Double Speak" that liberal extremists (*NOT liberals in general!*) absolutely LOVE to practice. They believe that their causes are the only true and just causes, regardless of what the law, logic, comon sense, and rationality say.

Free Speech doesn't mean that you can willfully target and harass an individual, with the conscious intent of causing emotional harm, to the point that they become legally insane and commit suicide.

MySpace Suicide Charges don't threaten free speech in any way; They threaten *criminal* actions. Free speech is "I don't like you." or "You suck!". A criminal action is constructing an elaborate scheme to cause emotional harm or distress to an individual.

This *clearly* crossed the line from Free Speech to Criminal Action. Too bad the title's author doesn't understand the concept of Free Speech.

As prestigeous elitist as Georgetown is, they should have realized the lawsuits that they could face from this, since they, and anyone else, cannot prohibit lawful activities taking place within a private dwelling, since dorms, apartments, and student housing are technically private dwellings/residences. It would be the same as banning having sex or playing the Marshmallow Peeps Game in someones apartment/room/housing/etc.

This would be a "losing" legal battle for a campus that tries to prohibit this, but "winning" in the sense that no student can afford to defend themselves.

My school prohibits kegs, since they are considered "Mass Delivery" devices, but that only means you cant have a 'keg' (not counting those 'mini-kegs' you see at 7-11), and you can have as much alcohol as you and your buddies can afford. You can have a truckload of any kind of alcohol, but no kegs. Sorta makes sense, but they are not restricting alcohol or access to it by legal drinkers. If you live in the regular dorms, and have a roomie that is under 21, there must be at least 1 door, not including refrigerator doors (I already tried that) between the alcohol and the person under 21 (the door doesn't have to be locked at all times though). If you live in the student apartments or student housing, you can have any kind of alcohol anywhere. Parties/gatherings of over 15 people require you to fill out a very simple slip stating that you understand and you agree to be responsible for keeping the party under control. Our Police Department even has a shuttle that will take you to and from (until 2am) the downtown bars for free so you don't have to drive drunk.

The only real restrictions we have on alcohol is that you can't make your own, can't have a keg, and can't drink if you are a minor. Smoking is still O.K. as long as you are 25 feet from windows (State law).

Out rules regarding alcohol are simple common sense. As long as someone can care for themselves or is not posing a real danger to others, they are allowed to have fun. The rules (with the exception of kegs) are just the same as any other city or town in California: No open containers in public (except for scheduled events), you must be able to care for yourself, you cannot drive drunk, no underage drinking, and you can't give or buy alcohol for minors.

In the U.S., people who file too many frivolous lawsuits can be temporarily banned from suing other people, as well as being held financially responsible for all costs related to the suits. If someone files too many frivolous suits, they are declared to be either Malicious or Vexatious Litigants.

However, frivolous 911, or in the UK, 999 calls, can be life-threatening to the people in real-life emergencies. So, just as frivolous litigants can be banned from suing, frivolous callers should also be banned from calling.

If the banned individuals are fortunate (for everybody else) to be faced with a real emergency, then the Police and Fire Departments should note the persons previous history of phony calls and err on the side of caution by *not* responding and waiting for an emergency call that is not from a caller with a fraudulent history, since that has a higher probability of being more genuine.

I'm suprised that the UK doesn't have the ability to know the location of the call like Dispatchers here in the U.S. do. Every time a call is recieved, the number, location, and name of the registered owner is diplayed, so even if it is a simple 911 "Hang-Up" call, as happens with most small children fooling around with the telephone, an officer is dispatched to the very location that the call came from to find out what exactly is going on. I'm suprised that a country as Big Brother as the UK doesn't have that ability.

With the exception of small children who don't fully understand the ideas behind Emergency Numbers (911, 999, etc.), fraudulent callers should be treated as harshly as real criminals, with punishments on the order of:

    1) Heavy fines
    2) Wage garnishment
    3) Vehicle Forfeitures / Seizures
    4) Jail time
    5) Emergency number blocking
    6) Public Humiliation (like walking around with a sandwich board declaring them a fraudulent caller)
    7) Property forfeiture (real estate or luxury items)

2: Customer generates electricity using private infrastructure and capital.
3: Customer generates excess power that is fed back into the grid, free of charge to power company.
4: Power comapny then turns around and sells power back to other customer for a profit.

Technically, taking something and not paying for it is theft, and selling something that has been stolen is also illegal. Since power companies are allowed to take a customer's surplus, and the customer cannot control how much extra power they generate, an the power comapanies are then allowed to sell the power at a profit (no generating costs) without paying the generators for their trouble, people for the most part feel cheated, and rather than allow themselves to be swindled by Big Electricity, they just don't bother. Plus, solar panels are pretty expensive for the average consumer, making the swindle even more painful.

Paying customers the maket price that they deserve and are entitled to would definitely lessen the sting of the initial solar panel investment.

I wonder if Home Solar generators could get around this by forming a private power-generation company (i.e. a "Home Business") and selling the excess to the Power Co.
