What is the public good? Is it in the public's interest to imprison people who want to smoke weed? 18 year-olds who are sexually attracted to 17 year-olds? I don't think people are arguing that no government is better than any government, but when you turn the screws too hard against people/group/race/religion and try to restrict their rights, they need/will find a way to push back.

When you see the number of African Americans who have contact with the penal system you have to wonder if the American people count black men as being part of 'the public.'

Apparently the Saudis put out the warrant and the Malaysian authorities detained at the airport and are shipping him back. Apparently the Malaysians are really amenable to the foreign governments about extraditing and returning people, so even if this guy faces the death penalty the Malaysians just don't want to get in the middle of things.

I guess the moral of the story is that if you are going to flee to another country, try some place like Canada or Sweden first.

Why is this common sense? Might need to download a manual shouldn't have a lower priority than your need to talk to Gramma over the interwebs. If your portion of the service you contracted was throttled because _you_ wanted it, that's fine, but my service shouldn't be throttled to your needs. Besides, I manage my QoS with my own firewall, and which packets get prioritized are none of your business, nor should it be my provider's unless I ask them to.

These are agreements between multi-billion dollar corporations. Each of them have their own lawyers, engineers and negotiators to look out for their own interests, if you haven't noticed.

If you don't like the patent system, reform it by lobbying your government. The megacorporations are just playing by those rules and really don't give a hoot about what the average consumer thinks.

Even many Chinese are exasperated by the avalanche of fake goods. It's not just iPhones and hangbags. It's fake milk, fake eggs, fake meat, recycled cooking oil from the street. Almost everything can be adulterated and it is, and even brand name and big chains are being subverted to the point where even the rich aren't sure what they are getting. This means the ruling party is getting affected by this too so something is going to be done.

Whether it is effective or not remains to be seen.

Jobs is mad at Android because Schmidt sat on Apple's board; obviously Jobs felt that Schmidt operated in bad faith and could have heard many secrets and strategies regarding the iPhone and iOS before Schmidt revealed Google's intentions to go head to head against Apple.

The people you hate the most are the ones who betray you. That is the Steve must have felt regarding Schmidt and Android. Not saying it's right or wrong but that's my take on this.
