So...if we would have used this type of bullshit 3 years ago, we could have claimed the war in Iraq was over, and it would have been?!?!? So, let it be said... THE WAR IN IRAQ IS OVER, WE HAVE WON!
Damn...I was really hoping that would work:o)
Yes,
That is a bit over the edge...sounds like you got one of those Policitaly correct consulting firms who talked your company into some kinda shit that is archiac, and silly. If that high of a security level is needed, they should switch to using either your employee badge system to do the login via a card reader attached to your PC, or biometrics, or both. Simply swipe your badge, and scan your finger/thumb, and you don't have anything to write down, or forget...unless you are one of us who forgets his/her badge on occasion:o)
YES!! See my nickname...I just left a HUGE corporation, they did insurance, and did it poorly, but made (B) Billions. I did infosec, and it was a daunting, thankless, never listened to, type of position. I have since gon to a smaller institution, it seems to be much easier to convince folks that security is something to take seriously, but then we have a CEO and CIO who consider IT to be a money making division, they are not a cost center, they make the company run.
There are certs worth getting still, CISSP, CISM, CISA, etc will net you a nice paycheck, and eventually get you in a position where you can dictate security to folks, and make a difference.
Yep, and the guys over at A Small Orange http://www.asmallorange.com/ were blogging about how many they have purchased. I know they are not hosting my site on winderz!!!!
IMHO the reason most "Forks" of Linux have happened, is just because it is allowed. Someone that is a real geek, and I mean that in the nicest way, decides it would be really cool to take the kernel, and do something that suits them. There is nothing wrong with that, as it is what the heart of OSS is about (again, IMHO). I think as long as we have some standard distros, that folks should still inovate, as without inovation, Linux would have never happened in the first place.
I personally have tried over 10 different distros, one works for certain things REALLY WELL, and another works for OTHER things really well, it would be great if they all worked for everything, but that will NEVER happen, not with UNIX, Linux, or Windows.
I believe that being computer literate is somewhat like being able to read...not as in RTFM, but, more along the lines of if you can read one book, you can read any, it is just a matter of what you prefer to read. Most people who are truely computer literate, can park their ass at most any computer, and within a few minutes, to a few hours, be able to do basic tasks, maybe know the file structure somewhat. Most people who say they are computer literate, are not really so much, in my opinion, and we know what opinions are like:o)
A M E N ! ! ! ! !
You know...Most have been complaining about this very problem, well, maybe it was not some Uber Linux guru who introduced this, it was Novell, but hey, at least they are working on it, and doing what everyone is asking for from a Linux distro.
I don't know what distro some of you folks are using, but the ONLY problems I have had are related to not being able to play multimedia stuffs (DVD, MP3, etc.) I stick the CD or DVD in, set my bios to boot from CD-ROM, and WHACH!! I am off and installing whatever distro I happen to want to play with this week. I have installed Ubuntu, OpenSuSE, Fedors, and Mandriva, ALL of them recognised my hardware, external HDD, NIC, Video, etc. Are folks trying to use Redhat disks from 1996 or something?!? I still run Windows, but my master boot record contains GRUB, and the only reason I keep windows around is to play Guild Wars!!!!!!!!!
I get DSL+Landline for 42.00US (Tax included) per month from AT&T, no matter how much info on me they turn over to the NSA, I like the service, and the speed. I had another VoIP provider...packet8, and they sucked like an experienced hooker!!!! I would rather have the reliability and low cost...not just low cost!!!
Well...Verizon has FIOS, which delivers up to 30 mbps internet conneciton, as well as TV, DVR, and whatever else. That would break the cable companies ties...If you were in their coverage area. Seems that everytime some company comes out with some great whopper techno stuff, it is only available in remote corners of some town no-one has heard of. Why not make it available to EVERYONE!!! Sorry...Rant off.
I disagree with you, but I guess you could see that coming. I passed my CISSP in December, and I have effectively doubled my salary since. The test had NOTHING to do with memorizing screens, or their uses. It was a hard test, I know the material, but the psychometrics of the test were what made it very hard. Kinda like taking the Security+ with a psych test intermingled.
I know you said "Natively", but there is Cedega...www.transgaming.com. I can not live without my Guild Wars, and it works very nicely on SuSE 10 running Cedega.
Uhhh...Not so much...No. Suits usually say "We need to make this happen" and then the ENG types make it happen, micromanagement aside, that is how it works, and it gives us ENG types the freedom to determine how we achieve the end result. Dictated to somewhat, but left to be inventive, cruel to others, and use out larger brain pans:o)
Funny....I work in corporate america, and we are pretty farqing in-secure as well...Pitty I can't tell you all who I work for, you would run screaming away from the thing most people charish most when getting a new job.:o) Politics/Policies are how they try to secure the IT Infrastructure, forget technical controls, and what about best practices? forget about it!!!! Not to mention risk mitigation, we accept most risk without any kind of mitigation. This is the norm for _most_ companies, and will be the death of lots of them. They just have not been tested yet, but when they are, they will fail miserably!
WOW!!!! You are either a HUGE FUCK UP, or you just do not live in a market area. You might look into moving to a larger city, and taking a job where you might be under paid for the time being. I work in IT, see my username for specifics:o) I owned a small business for 3 years, sold it, and within 2 weeks of entering the job market again, I had a decent paying job, with very good benefits.

He-he-he-he...You said Raid on a Blade...he-he-he...
What a bunch of pussies!!
All over again... I never bought any DIVX Disks, and will not participate in this shite either!!
WOW!! I wonder when someone will chime in about Ubuntu already being ahead of Debian on this....3,2,1...
