    You're missing the biggest point. Sony didn't just remove OtherOS from the Slim, they removed it from all current and past PS3s by a forced PSN update. This forced consumers to either keep OtherOS and lose PSN access, or give up PSN access to keeo OtherOS

    Yeah but they were sold under the pretense that they could repair and expand, but every current and future PS3 cannot have its firmware downgraded, and doesnt have access to OtherOS (legally at least) So once they run out of spares, theyre boned

    Well, the current set up is fine. However if the Air Force wanted to replace broken PS3s or even expand the cluster, they couldn't. They could argue about Sony ruining their future scalability of their cluster due to the removal of OtherOS.

    One problem with your calculation. after 7 iterations, either it is the size of a room and costs $8 million, OR it is the size of a square foot and it cost $1 billion. You don't get both. Either you make the same computing power smaller, or you make that space requirement cheaper. In the real world, you get a little of both
