    600 GB HD
    ATI Radeon 4850 HD

24 GB RAM (when I got it, it was so cheap to buy went ahead and maxed it out)
120 GB SSD (SATA 3 but of course it doesn't support sata 3 so I have to stick with sata 2 speed)
and a ATI Radeon 6850 HD video card (which is the highest model this computer it can take)

Still runs great, but those little things bug me, and just like you stated, doesn't have USB 3, memory speed and has the old PCIx stuff. Added to that the lack an easily replaceable power supply, inability to take a faster video card, and in general no expandability options at all, I'm currently building my next computer as I write this

    New computer will have
    Core i7 4790k
    16GB RAM
250 GB SSD (and all the old drives)
    NVidia GeForce GTX 960
And a case that's easy to add and upgrade items as I please

I'm also building this thing for absolute silence most of the time. All the parts have fans that won't spin up until a temperature threshold is reached, after that they spin up but stay quiet and really I won't care since I'll probably be gaming, transcoding, or doing a software build.

I already live in a poor reception area and having a phone that can be slightly better than average or significantly worse than average reception kinda makes my head spin.

But I didn't report it! Why you say? Because it's already a big deal to the media who's been schlepping this story around for the last month. I didn't think I needed to report it. And everyone I know who has an iPhone talks about the news stories about the terrible reception, but again never report it. They figure if it's this big a news then Apple should be able to see it's more than just a few thousand people having the issue.

They'll only have huge problems if they are afraid of change. Which means that they shouldn't be doing the very thing you are proposing they should do. Which is to change their operating system.

So forget changing them to any other system, whether it be OSX or some distro of Linux. But lets take a look at those who can change.

Grouping applications under one icon makes a lot of sense, especially when you start opening up a lot of applications. Maybe they shouldn't, maybe they don't care, but keeping the taskbar clean is the only way to take care of many applications running at once without going to some other application management.

The icons can have text if you want them to, just one more option. The point of the icons pinned to the taskbar is that people DON'T NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S RUNNING. If you want to have Firefox open, click the firefox icon. If it's not running it'll start running. If it is running then it'll just go to the last instance of it. Either way you get what you want, which is to a firefox window.

The taskbar will append applications to the end as long as they aren't already pinned to the taskbar. Need to have your applications one after the other? Just don't pin anything to the taskbar(although I don't really understand the point). The icons are pretty big. I don't think people are that dumb(and if they are why are we arguing here it won't matter) that they can't figure out their Excel spreadsheet is under the excel icon which the icon looks a little different now that it has an active window. Give them a second, I bet they can figure it out.

I doubt they're gonna be really confused about the mouse gestures. To activate Aero Shake, you really have to shake it like you mean it. Unless they are doing it just for fun. Maximizing by dragging it to the top isn't confusing. Move it to the top and they see the window maximize move it down a bit and it reverts back. I really wish the window would snap to the side full screen so i can have a side by side view of two windows. And there is Aero Snap, which is very convenient even to the most staunch. Did I mention if you don't like any of this, you can just turn it off?

And yeah it's the same basic interface, but many people use their own style, moving the taskbar to the left or right of the screen. Which is very nice for widescreen monitors which are becoming all the rage. And the icon based taskbar works very well on the side there.

I wouldn't think that it's an issue only because they are totally separate things. Even if you could read a book on an iPhone not many people would. It's not that it's terrible, it's just that you can read it more comfortably using a different medium. I've read several books on my PDA and it's easy enough to do day to day. But at the end of the day my eyes are more comfortable with something like Sony's Reader.

This is where the comparison goes horribly wrong. The iPhone's very existence(and to some extent the iTouch) is meant to do many things, most of which is media centric. What I want from a eBook, is almost completely opposite. I don't want it to have flashy graphics, output sound or require me to anything fancy to just start reading. And I want to not charge it for months at a time. And last but not least, I want it to have a clear picture that I can read for hours and hours without a hint of eyestrain. I want it to be a freakin book but in electronic format. This is where Sony got it right. All these things can be found in Sony's Reader but not the iPhone and that's the way they should be. They are separate types of devices and trying to combine these into something "cooler" just makes my brain hurt.

TM aggregates changes and you can roll back to any point in time.
No not really. TM does not aggregate changes in the way aggregate means. It determines if there is changes to a file and provides a hardlink if there is no changes. Otherwise it either deletes the file from the copy it produces for that time or it copies another complete file to the backup.

Think of it as CVS. It tages backup times but actually only copies new data as it's checked in.
CVS and SVN will only backup changes to what's stored reducing the the need for a whole bunch of disk space when things don't change that much. But in TM if you change a small thing in a big file, you're gonna need roughly twice the space of the big file to store it and it's backup, not to mention each time you make a small change you'll need even more space.
The rest of what you say is spot on. The interface is great and lots of applications(mostly those Apple-made) have direct integration so it's easy to find what you're looking for and get it back from the depths of file death.

The complaints about the iPhone never seem to come from iPhone users. The highest customer satisfaction in phones is iPhone at 82%, the next best is Blackberry at 51%, then ALL THE REST are below 50%.
This is incredibly misleading. I'm not saying that the iPhone isn't a very satisfying phone. It's just that the research was done on the entire collection of phones from any one provider. Apple only has 1 phone. That skews the perspective a huge amount. Lets say that LG had a phone that was piss poor and everyone wanted to give the damn thing away. Then a month later they come out with the best phone anyone on the planet has ever seen, learning from their past mistakes. You get a customer satisfaction of %50. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that their latest phone was more satisfying from the consumer point of view than that of the iPhone.

Generally speaking the more you pay for a phone the more features and the more care the phone builder probably took into making that phone. The iPhone is a high ticket item. It was bound to be pretty good. But any other company already has far more than 1 phone out in the market with some of those phones only there to serve the bare necessities of the market.

I'm going to say this not to say that my phone is the greatest... it's just that because my phone is so good I'm not really looking to replace it for an iPhone. I have a Sony Ericsson W810i and when I got it, it was the best phone I have ever ever used. But it took me a long time to get myself to buy it because I hated the old SE phones. They were slow, unresponsive and crashed if you tried to do anything that wasn't on it's time schedule. But the W810i... just beautiful. It's small, syncs great with Mac's and does everything that I want to in a fashion that is very intuitive to me. Because of this I have gotten 6 friends/family members to switch to the phone and they all exclaim how they should have switched months ago. Oh well hindsight really is 20/20.

All the problems you faced are gone. Drag and drop is there. Insert disc + rip is there. Smart playlists are there(and are a quite bit more flexible). Making playlists and smartlists is quite easy. Sorting by any column all there. But here are the things that will make me never switch to iTunes.

iTunes is crazy with the services. When you close iTunes there are still 2 services running in the background taking up resources for absolutely no reason. I can pretty much use any format that has ever been in existence with Winamp. Mp3's, AAC's, and Ogg are nice but then if you like you can have ALAC, FLAC, Monkey audio, AIFF, MIDI, WMA, and even the almighty MOD. Plays video if you want it to and not just the MP4 kind. Syncs perfect with my iPod and has some pretty cool utilities(with ml_ipod anyways). And it'll sync with damn near anything else. I currently have it sync my iPod, my phone(the awesome SE w810i), and a flash drive(which I can just stick in various media players and have it just work). It has a windowshade mode which means that's it's always on the screen up where the Title bar is (as thin as the title bar) and I always have access to the program and I can easily see exactly what is playing and where in the track it is. Built in customizable global hotkeys means I don't have to touch the mouse at all to do damn near anything with winamp. And of course skins which you can use to make it as useful or as gawdy as you like.

And since I'm bored I'm gonna end with plugins. There is just a whole lot more of them for Winamp making it be able to do even more stuff. Again this wasn't really targeted at the parent post. Just showing that Winamp can make a better case than iTunes with today's versions.

But then what? You select what you want from the menu and then you'll have to do something that probably isn't close to the edge of the monitor(ie, get back to where you were).
