Actually, the government mandate here is protection of the consumer. In the UK the government has the right to request withdrawal and slap the wrist of any advertisement that is considered false or misleading. Do they do it all the time? No. In this instance the question was raised - Does the iPhone have all parts of the internet on it? and the irrefutable answer is no, thus false advertising and that advert needs to be replaced by one that does not make such broad claims. This was nothing to do with the government having any control over the internet.
The better concern should be why pick on Apple when some much other false advertising get through the system...
Significant power is lost during transmission already, about 30-40% based on distance and weather. I would say that 25% is pretty good for a prototype. In addition ~40% of power transmission cost is the copper in the lines
So that they can use them all and clog the SUSE support lines with bogus calls, thus destroying the reliability of Linux support in the eyes of the actual consumer, thus protecting their monopoly by proving that Linux support is not mature...Well that's what I expect to hear from the fanatics.
Personally, it looks like a good way of plowing more money into the company at a low expense to Novell. I'm sure there's probably implications if they just give them the cash.
You have to look at who the CWA are. I think the first bullet point of their mission statement makes the point. If you want to "Improve the standard of living for our current and future members" then you want to make sure they have stable jobs that pay well, in which case you want to scare the public about how the lack of service will hurt us and make us look technologically backwards compared to other countries. Got to love the manipulation of good ol' American pride.
My first thought was that they watched Pulp Fiction right before choosing it, but then I watched Pulp Fiction last night, so i must agree with you. BTW - has anyone emailed honey.bunny77@hotmail.de and just asked them?
Stick it on Craigs List in your area. A simple posting "Free wires, hardware and software. You pick up. You take all." You'll be surprised how quickly it will go.
I'm a chemistry, by industry, by education and if I saw 1500 vials, jars, cans, bottles and boxes sitting around full of chemistry stuff I'd want some authority to check it out. My response to this is based simply on my understanding of what someone can easily do with household products let alone ordered chemical and prep equipment. However, I do have to wonder if the outrage at the fascist authorities would be replaced by support if the guys name was Mustaffa or equivalent and he had an extensive (for home use) chemistry lab. Now ideally, our Mr. Deeb would have had an inventory of everything and have separated the chemicals appropriately for saftey sake.
The MASDAR Initiative by the UAE is trying to achieve similar goals. They also want to get off the grid and realize that to do that they'll need to go solar, but then they are stuck with the power shifting issue. I think GE are installing a $1 billion hydrogen generator there, to try and deal with that issue.
I would imagine that the Slashdot irony is that the Slashdotter clicks on the link to see if it has been Slashdotted, not necessarily to view the web page, and in the process helps affect the crushing blow to the web server.
So we have all this hydrogen from thermo-chemical splitting, how do we store it for later use? Compress it? Then energy is required to run the compressor, so now we've reduced the efficiency of the system. Same with liquification. Have a look at the historic efforts with hydrogen. The weak point that defeats hydrogen technology has always been storage and transport. So while it's a fantastic breakthrough if this is true, it means didley-squat until some can put it in an energy dense form that has low parasitic energy costs. The interesting thing is that not a lot of money is being focused on the storage issues, compared to the production issues.
If this thread can even touch on how to encourage a young teen to do anything, I'll be impressed and grateful. My current strategy is to let mine be and hope that when he screws up he doesn't die. If he can make it to the end of the adolescent years, with all limbs and senses, then he may be able to achieve something.
You know what I don't get? How the iPhone 2 comes out of the gate, doesn't work for set-up, people get sent home to set it up on iTunes - doesn't work and no one on/. is saying squat about the crappy execution.
Is Apple so holier-than-thou to this site that it walks scot-free on such a huge cock-up? If Microsoft released a product and the only thing wrong was the color of the GUI, you would've roasted them by now. Even Linux distros get more criticized!
But the story was put into the public forum by the daughter, if the story is untrue, all the papers are guilty of is poor journalism, which only affects their reputation. If the stories are true the mother should be looking at pressing charges against the party goers for vandalism, or holding the daughter responsible. If not true, then her beef is with the Paris-Hilton-wannabe who is her daughter for putting the family in the unwanted public spotlight.
Crappy weather is relative. I love the Seattle, weather. I hate this sun thing we're going through, give me gray and drizzly any day.
As for Fulcrum of Evil, where you trying to live? Try West Seattle or Ballard. If you want to live nearer Redmond Bothell. I do a flex-time commute from West Seattle to North Redmond (no I don't work at MS or even in the software industry). Left 6:30 am this morning got to work at 7:10 am, including a stop for coffee, pretty standard. Put in the hours leave early 4:15ish, dodge the traffic home by 5:15 pm. Still get in a good 9-10 hour day.
Thanks

Bank tech: "That's weird, we always stored 7 million records in those databases..."
Bank tech2: "Funny I thought it was 12 million..."
Bank tech3: "What are records?"
Bank tech4: "Hey, didn't I just decommission that laptop using that online eBay-thingy service?"
25% of wasted power and goal achieved?

I think it was about New York getting some, or considering getting some, in order to ease their problems with lack of public restrooms.
I understand that they're moving ahead with the project, due to just finding a really good 5-pack, slightly-used, deal on eBay.
Shoving it up the arse gives me a great idea for a dance dance revolution port to the Wii

Funny, my wife has always told me that size matters, speed is just a courtesy to her TV viewing time.

Were the people American or French? Trust me it's important...

No! No! No! Nothing in the US could be better or easier than in the UK, I refuse to believe it!
The dilithium crystals dinnae take it!

Use Vista, then they'd probably send it back to you with a sympathy card

Please replace Phase 5: Search for the Guilty, with Witch Hunt. I've always found that title more appropriate.
