There's only one company on that list that seems qualified to me, and that would be Mozilla.
My reasoning (and this is based on my opinion, so mod how you will):
- Yahoo is slowly dying, having failed to gain a real foothold in the era of cloud computing
- IBM and Red Hat have enterprise customers they will put before "openness"
- Microsoft, despite it's attempts, still doesn't really understand (from a corporate perspective) what "openness" is, or how to use it
- The Wikimedia Foundation definitely doesn't have the clout
Mozilla has long championed open standards, and although they once toppled the "invincible" Microsoft, whether they still hold that kind of power remains to be seen...
You know what I'd like to see more than a working progress bar? A "Cancel" button that actually stops the f*%! process!.
I don't want to finish the sub-process I'm currently doing (which has probably stalled)... just FREAKING STOP.
If you (programmer) want to close connections, or save the changes to the disk, do it in the background. Making me sit there for another 10 minutes while you're "cancelling..." is not helpful. I will force close your program. Failing that I will hard-reset the computer. Seriously.
Apple doesn't have 3tb hybrid drives... theirs is a software solution.
They include a 128gb off-the-shelf(-ish) SSD, and a 3TB platter-based hard drive. Their volume manager software "intelligently" shuffles data around, to optimize access speeds. Not sure how effective it is, but it sure sounds appealing in their advertising material.
That's pretty awesome. I'm suddenly very interested in hearing your music.
What kind of music is it? Could you link me to your website, or a source for your tracks?
How about the headline "Can all newspaper headlines ending in a question mark, be answered with 'No'?"
Ha, Mr. Ian Betteridge, I was wise to your little game, and I beat you!
If the console is "digital download focused", it's likely the game on the disk will be a hard-copy of the downloadable files, with a code to unlock the game. You insert the disk, enter the code, authenticate with your account, wait for the files to install, and then promptly throw all physical media away, because it's useless to anyone else now.
For households with no internet, you'll have to do phone activation.
The main problem is indeed the policies. While I (mostly) agree with the main statements TFA makes, I have my own note to add:
My bank's website enforces a MAXIMUM length. I'd love to have a password like "c0rr3c7 h0r53 b4773ry st4p13", but I can't use more than 6 characters.
Yes, you read that right. 6 characters. Maximum.
I fear for my online bank info constantly.
Why would there ever be a reason to enforce such a small maximum length? I don't get it.
I'd take having to buy a new set of Torx drivers over having to pry open something that's been glued together. At least the guy before you was kind enough to use screws in the first place.
Yes. Anyone with more information has been asked to e-mail robbery@vpd.ca. Videos can be uploaded PRIVATELY to YouTube, and shared with robbery@vpd.ca.
I can see it now:
You're watching the video feed, and you see that your TV is missing (it was stolen! OH NO!). Moments later, the space where your TV was is filled with the ghostly image of a Samsung® 60" LED TV with Quatron® Technology using augmented reality. Clicking the image charges the TV to your Comcast account (along with a Comcast convenience fee), and instructs the installers where to hook it up. It also orders you a Comcast cable box, and monthly service to go with it.
AFAIK IsoHunt isn't a tracker... that's how they've avoided takedowns by the CRIA and similar for so long. They simply index the content of other trackers, acting like a search engine.
Brewing beer isn't free. Unless you already own the equipment and ingredients, buying them can run you over $150 per batch. Then you have to count the time-consuming process of sanitizing the equipment, actually brewing beer, bottling it (hope you saved those bottles too!), and then drinking it before it expires (unless you can find some way to pasteurize it).
However, if you do decide to do it, it is a very rewarding experience. Not free... but rewarding.
I just had this incredible vision of Steve Ballmer in zero-g whipping a chair hard enough that it falls into a stable orbit. One of those plastic, foldable brown ones... maybe with the word "Microsoft" embossed on the back.
Is simplyhired.com a reliable site for salary metrics?
See... I checked with them, and I could make more working as a horse than I could if I stayed at my current job as a potato

Well, at least now they know how many holes it takes.
If by "sideloading from who-knows-where and installs themselves" you mean "downloading from approved app channels (Google Play Store)"... http://arstechnica.com/security/2012/07/more-malware-found-hosted-in-google-android-market/
I've nicknamed the new Die Hard movie "DIE HARD OF OLD AGE" because of this.
He explained it in the comment: "there's less vertex data to generate and pass to the GPU"

300 shares of each Blackberry/Apple/Microsoft/Oracle

Going anywhere NEAR the mag-safe connector needs so many rubber-stamp approvals from Apple. They'd either never allow it, or you wouldn't live long enough to see your idea come to fruition. Metro isn't a GUI for the desktop. It's a GUI for a tablet or a phone.
I couldn't have said it better myself. The real problem is... why does Microsoft insist on forcing it onto desktop users?
Probably true.

All I can find is the Comedy Central censored version!

I know someone who would always shake their iPhone immediately after rotating between landscape and portrait, just so "it knows I rotated".
I never had a problem with the accelerometer recognizing I've done something. Except when I use Rotation Inhibitor.

If you jailbreak, there are several (paid and free) third party tools that enable this functionality.
