  1. stupid developers... on Microsoft Killed the Start Menu Because No One Uses It · · Score: 1

They already fubarred the StartMenu with Vista by not expanding like in XP and earlier.. Ofcourse people are gonna use it less if you cripple it.. I use it a lot as I find it a good way to find all the program's I have installed (yes I do some archiving/structuring with my startmenu).. I've even installed 'Classic StartMenu' to get the same XP startmenu back (but still retain the current too).. In Windows 7 I find myself much more searching for stuff as in previous windows (I can't say anything about Vista as I never used it).. Also looking at Windows 8 with it's Metro style look, yeah it looks great, but having experimented with it some, I found myself still using the 'classic desktop' much more as it was more convenient for me.. (why the hell do I need to use the scrollbar when using the mouse compared to using a finger anywhere).

I really hope Samsung succeeds in blocking the iPhone 5..

  6. huh? on Dutch Government To Tax Drivers Based On Car Use · · Score: 1

last time we heard about this, it was sent into to garbagebin..

To some it might seem like a good thing (for people living in the city where 'public' transportation is good), but for other people it's just a necessity and they'll be the ones that pay the price for nothing.. IMHO the current system is the best, you pay a specific ammount each month dependant on the weight and type of fuel just for having one (next to the ammount you pay every month for insurances which also depends on what kind of car you drive and how many miles), and then you pay for every kilometer you drive (taxes are at 70+% per liter of fuel), so the more your car slurps it's fuel, the more you pay, the more kilometers you drive you pay.. So how stupid must you be not to see that it's the best solution without the need for a VERY expensive administration system which won't work anyway (there are so many ways to corrupt the used system).

How come a simpleton like me can think of all the extra costs and problems and see the current system is working well, whereas people who have studied their whole life and have big degrees can only think up such stupid money hogging problematic systems..

Also let's not forget how much this will impact your privacy..

  7. Re:In other news... on Making Graphics In Games '100,000 Times' Better? · · Score: 1

Good game design is all in the eye of the beholder.. What you think is good, doesn't mean that another person thinks the same. for instance, some people think racing games should have a 'customize your car to hell' option, others just want to race and really don't want to customize the hell out of their car. Some people like to sneak around and snipe in shooters, while others just want to go blazing in shoot first ask questions later.. All are different and good game designs, but someone who isn't into arcade gaming will think an arcadelike shooter is bad game design, and others who doesn't like realistic shooters will think that's bad game design..

  8. Depends.. on What Do I Do About My Ex-Employer Stealing My Free Code? · · Score: 1

It all depends what was in your contract (and it also depends on which country you live in). If you wrote the code during the day at work, it certainly isn't yours. If coding is your dayjob, and you also code in your sparetime, you should certainly have it correctly stated in your contract that anything done in your sparetime is yours and your boss can't lay claim on it (unless ofcourse it's based on work you've done during the day), otherwise you're in a situation which you are residing in now. Yes your boss can lay claim on your code you've done in your spare time, because it is very propable that you've thought or even worked on it during your dayjob. If you were a busdriver or something it wouldn't be possible for your boss because it's a completely different line of work.

And removing the license is in the same line, if they 'own' the code they can do whatever they want with it, even if you put whatever license on it.
As I said, it depends on the laws of your country, but in the united states/UK/Netherlands I know this to be true. So make sure you've have it written in your contract that your boss cannot lay claim on your code you've written in your sparetime so you won't be in a situation like this (it makes it easier for you to do something about it if he does use your code without your permission).

I do wonder how long they have tested the system on live-data before actually using it.
